  1. Am all excited with the good participation. Looking forward to tomorrow's drive. @Emil, you have got all the necessary tools for the first drive. Dont worry too much about the shovel. We shall all be carrying it and if you do enjoy shoveling we can definitely lend you ours. 😁
  2. @Gaurav its time to shift the timing of JD. The season is just starting 🤣
  3. Just lead the way Asif Bhai, I will follow you from 'Dawn to Dusk'
  4. @Shafeel what year model is it? Is it the old shape or the new one?
  5. @Javier M, @Emil, @Nikhil, @Pwn, @Jocreative, @Maxiben welcome to Carnity Offroad Club. For those who would be venturing into the desert for the first time, there is a nice writeup posted by one of the Carnity offroad experts on what you can expect in the desert. If you already have a Radio (walkie talkie) please charge it fully and bring it, as it will be your best friend during your offroad venture. A shovel, flag, deflator and tire gauge would also be very useful for the first drive.
  6. Oh yes, I would like to Dire Straits - Walk of Life as one of my all time favourites
  7. Love to listen to Eagles (Hell Freezes Over), Phill Collins and some nice melodious Hindi Songs. Never been a fan of thumping music even during an adrenaline drive. Need some nice soothing music while enjoying the tranquility of the desert.
  8. All those who have registered for the drive, please share your contact numbers in case there is a need for any coordination. The phone number of the senior members who will be there for this drive are mentioned below: Rahimdad - 050 674 9099 Asif - 050 699 0411 Srikumar - 055 9567471
  9. The end of the driveshaft which broke was not just having a u-joint. It was having a ball joint as well and I checked that part up in the spare part market in Sharjah, they said that they dont keep the mopar part in stock. Am i still missing something?
  10. @Nikhil this drive is a newbie drive in Maliha area. The love drive was near Lisalli. I think there might be a repeat of that drive in the near future. Your most welcome to join the Maliha drive as well.
  11. @Barry i did check it like you said initially and i felt it at the stage there was play in the shaft. However when it was checked at the garage the u joints (near the front differential) where in good condition. The mistake that was done was that I should have taken the entire shaft down and checked it thoroughly. Am so glad that it has not been the differential and was just the front drive shaft which costed me far less to replace. Thanks Barry 😁
  12. Just an update on the OP, in my last drive the noise was just getting worse and after we exited, i felt a heavy vibration at the speed of 20 - 30 km / h. Had to winch it to the garage, and when inspected it turned out to be the front drive shaft joint at the transmission end and not at the front differential end. Got a clean front drive shaft from the scrap yard and had it replaced. The entire noise has disappeared. 😄 Will be giving the car a good test during the next weekend drive as I finally have a mental peace knowing that the car is ready to be pushed to the limit
  13. I sure did miss this one. Hope we can have another one to this area soon 😃
  14. My car is finally fixed and I will be most definitely be joining this drive especially since its early in the morning. Looking forward.
  15. You can easily get these parts at any of the Toyota spare part shops (which are plenty) and get them changed by yourself. It's very simple. Infact your owner's manual would contain the information on how to replace them. The cabin air filter is behind the glove box compartment of the front passenger side. The foul smell could be due to dirt build up on the evaporator. For that I would suggest that once you change the air filter run the AC on full heating mode for 10 minutes. That should remove most of the bacteria and remove the foul smell. Was a quick fix on my car. If you want to do a full clean then you need to get an evaporator cleaner which comes in an aerosol can and try to sort it on the evaporator.
  16. i agree. the only people i can be tailgating are the truck drivers and i definitely would not want to be doing that.
  17. @Rahimdad you are one big teddy bear. 😁
  18. @Emil for the flag there is one shop in EB section of dragon Mart near the exit which is a dune buggy shop. That's the only one that has the flag. It costs AED 10 for the 1.5 m and AED 15 for the 2.5m Opposite that shop is a hardware shop where you can buy the yellow suction clamp to fix the flag on to your rear side window. Regarding the radio you would find plenty of shops in the B section of dragon Mart. Preferably buy the Motorola unit. Costs about AED 160 You can get a deflator and Tyre gauge in the main aile of dragon Mart hardware section. Preferably buy the simple spring type pressure gauge and not the dial gauge type. Should cost you AED 5 each. For a shovel, the best we have found is in Sharjah Industrial Area (Chor Bazar) where you get metal shovels with a steel grip handle and pointed 'V' shape shovel for AED 10-15. Location is in the below link https://goo.gl/maps/xnECJgp7XoJ2 The above should get you all geared up for your first adventure in the desert.
  19. Sorry guys, I am still in search of a clean front drive shaft. So will have to miss this one. Going to the scrap yard again on Saturday and hope to get a good one preferably from a Japanese car.
  20. @Jeh sorry I read the querry wrong the first time. To add to what Rahim Bhai said, I was an Abu Dhabi resident when I bought my Pajero from Habtoor Ajman. So it's perfectly normal. The only hiccup I faced was that they mentioned to me that to do the registration in Abu Dhabi would take 2 additional days as they would have to coordinate with Habtoor AUH. So I went to the muroor and got the number plates done my self. I think that all the car sales people across the Emirates have the same behaviour, where you can either buy it or leave it. Not yet met a good car sales guy.
  21. I know for a fact that even if you are a resident of another emirate you can register in Dubai, if you have a Ejari and electricity bill from Dubai. I think the opposite should work as well. Pros and cons would only depend on which Emirates give fine discounts more often. Other than that I don't think it makes any difference which emirate your vehicle is registered. Of yes, some consider it as a prestige if the car is from Abu Dhabi or Dubai compared to the other Emirates.
  22. My problem was not the lift...I basically had a lot of work parts which were probably never changed for 19 years by the previous owner. I had about a 3" lift and with now 31" tyres, and not had any major issues. I did have the death wobble a couple of times but they disappeared once I replaced the track bar and changed my tyres. But yes the XJ is running a delicate balance unlike in other offroad cars.
