2020 Mercedes GLS 580 4MATIC Off-road
Barry replied to desertdude's topic in Offroad General Discussion
I’ve had a lot of fancy cars but a 1989 190E was one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. Wasn’t fast but it started, drove and stopped any time I needed it to. Never needed any repairs. Would even do donuts on gravel. Didn’t cost me anything either, I swapped it for a XR3i with rotten floors and side sills and got cash back. One of the only cars I ever regretted selling. Street cred is for losers and sc3n3 kids. If Facebook likes are more important to you than having a fast useable car, good luck to you. The rest of us real men are playing with 700+ bhp mustangs just for fun. -
Prado Service Cost (Dealer & Garage)

Indeed. Email toyota directly and ask them about their warranty policy. Show it to the dealer and call them out. -

So much potential but so much waste. If you want a nice car with a 3 point star that’s good on the road, just buy a C63. -
@gaurav Please provide Tips to morning car startup
Barry replied to ARS's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
For me, if it’s modern, start it, wait 5 seconds for the oil pump then drive it. The ECU will take care of the fuelling. Old stuff is a faff if you’re not used to manual choke and carbs. Shutoff is more important than startup, especially if you have a turbo car. If you have been driving hard, let the car idle for a minute before you switch it off. Let’s the coolant circulate. If you just switch it off it can create hotspots. -

I love the technology on this car. But let’s be honest, the people who buy these cars will never go off road. It’s just have the 3 pointed star on the bonnet that they’re interested in. How often have you seen a g wagen in the desert? Most are running big rims and skinny tyres. I had one recently for repair and it had a full house of diff locks, front, centre, rear, but it was on 35 profile tyres. Part of me died working on that. -
Friendship, community, brotherhood, family.

Probably my strangest request yet. Does anyone have any information on Airstream in UAE? Owners, clubs, scrap dealers etc? I need to source something that isn’t manufactured any more and can’t be remanufactured. Google wasn’t much help.

Indeed. My wife is singing the praises of persil washing soap now. She made me spend extra for fabric conditioner. Sunny is a horrible car but it’s perfect for going to one place to another locally. Im not going to stick export plates on a 1,000 hp build jeep just to go buy milk.
-
I have a sunny at work. It’s the most boring car ever. I jump in it to scoot across al quoz to buy parts. The radio works and the AC works. I want to say bad stuff about it but it’s basic a to b transport and it does it well. Once you pass 80, it’s like taking your life in your hands. The car goes left, right, wherever, this is why I don’t drive it far. I took it on SZR and I thought I was going to die.

If you’re ever in Ireland I will show you my 205. I put in a 2.1 TD from a 406, injector pump from a BX with the governor removed, turbo from a v6 espace, huge injector nozzles, xantia gearbox. Scary thing to drive. Pushing 250 bhp in a 750kg car. If I ever go home I plan to put nitrous in it.

Bu Shanab, Fatma Jumaa... and other 4x4 and cars nicknames
Barry replied to Emmanuel's topic in General Discussions
I once had a motorbike, Kawasaki gt500, I named it Lucinda. I was dating a girl at the time named Lucinda and she was so happy I named my bike after her. Everyone used to borrow the bike to go and buy beer for the party. That’s why I named it Lucinda, everyone had a ride on it. When she found out the real reason the bike was named Lucinda she wasn’t so happy.- 30 replies

Performance for me. But some of the cars I build for customers are pure style, form over function. Totally unusable in every day situations. In my old age, I love reliable cars. Just step into it and drive. But I still have that thing in me that wants to do burnouts and 10 second quarter miles. “I live my live a quarter mile at a time”

Why girls love Jeep Wrangler so much....?

I had a customer in Dubai before. He had a mustang with some Disney stuff airbrushed on the bonnet. It was never a problem in Dubai. He drove to Sharjah one day and got a load of heck from the police. He came back to Dubai and we sprayed over it with plastidip. He presented it to Sharjah police and they were cool. As soon as he came back to Dubai, he peeled the plastidip off. I don’t understand it. Some modifications like straight through exhaust and welding your diff are pure antisocial but paint is nothing. It’s just making your car different without hurting or annoying anyone.
-
Heck most of the stuff I build would never pass any noise regulations here. Wasta is king.
-
Maybe I'm getting old but I like it. It's like the 911 - Panamera with an American twist. Of course the purists are going to hate it. I'd like to see it with a fully electric drivetrain just to really annoy people.

Just out of interest, what Ramadan timings are your company giving? Is it only for Muslims or does it apply to everyone?
-
I can deal with the heat no problem. It’s the sweating that kills me. Clothes soaked like you were standing in a shower. I find it hard to stay hydrated. I drink and drink until I feel like throwing up but when you only pee twice a day and all your fluids are coming out through your skin it can’t be good. I miss the ice and snow but this is life now.
-
I’d build something like this instead, all you need is a crashed motorbike. Cheap and loads more fun than posing for internet points What’s your budget? Weller do some cool wide steel wheels. If you want some deep dish steels, it’s pretty easy to split them, weld a band in the middle and put them back together again. I guess you have welding and fabrication skills because you’re doing this project.

Rahim bhai you are a human camel 😂 When I originally came here it was -10 degrees when I left. The roads were so bad frozen I didn’t think I would make my flight. 9 hours later I came to Sharjah. It was 19 degrees and I was sweating and dying from the heat. You learn to adapt and survive. 50 degrees? Bring it on!
