Dealing with the heat when Offroading
Barry replied to Frederic's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
Heat stroke is not cool. Last time it happened to me I ended up in bed for a week and I couldn’t move. It feels like flu but worse. Water isn’t always enough if you’re sweating so much. Pocari sweat or another isotonic drink is a better option sometimes. -
For future reference, I wouldn’t recommend resetting a steering angle sensor fault code without carrying out the calibration procedure first. Realigning the steering is only part of the job, the system needs to be recalibrated afterwards. It might be as simple as driving in a circle one way then driving in a circle the other way, all cars are different but the diagnostic tool guides you through the process. SAS has an input on a lot of other systems and you could find your ABS or traction control or something else doesn’t work properly when you need it to.

Looks like a good action movie but it’s not a true F&F movie. Where’s all the cars? What happened to the street races with the cars shifting up through 16 gears? It looks like mission impossible without Tom cruise.

Sorry that’s a question I can’t answer. If I was in my home country I could recommend a place but here, I do all my own work in house with my team. I only work on classics now and do restoration jobs. My labour charges are a lot higher that most garages. This is a question for another member.

If a pump is reconditioned and repaired properly, it should be as good as a new pump. It all depends on who is doing the work and how professional they are. Many places will take your old pump as a core unit and hand you a “new” reconditioned unit. New, original is always good but it’s expensive but at least you know it’s new. Don’t write off aftermarket parts, research the manufacturer. Sure there’s a lot of cheap crap out there, but some of the aftermarket parts manufacturers make parts for the car manufacturer and just stick a stamp on it. Like ferodo, gates, valeo, small names but original parts without the original price. Second hand parts can be good but you need to do your research and know what you’re looking for. You know they’re genuine parts from the manufacturer but remember they’re old. They will probably fail when they reach the same usage level as your own part.

I borrowed an AX from a friend once. Went round a corner too fast and rolled it onto its side. No real damage done, just broke a wing mirror. Pushed it onto its wheels and drove home. Bought the guy a new wing mirror. Until this day he still hasn’t spoken to me. Says I wrecked his car.

Out of all the cars I’ve owned, I think I’ve only owned one that was built in the century and I still haven’t died in a fiery ball of flames. I think the lesson to take away here is don’t crash.

I can see it being useful if you get stuck in snow but in all honesty, if you’re in snow that bad you should have chains on. Incidentally, has anyone ever tried snow chains on sand?

5 Things You Should Never Do in an Automatic Transmission Car

Even that name makes me cringe and shudder. I get that some people like him, but me, nah, not for me thank you very much. -
@treks I have some legendary memberships in the bank, just sent you one ✌️ I’m just using basic membership. Got sick of random people asking me questions about cars that could be asked on the forum so no more PMs for me. My number is freely available and I’m on WhatsApp if anyone needs me.

What are you into? Do you like to do your own oil changes? Do you have a basic diagnostic computer to read fault codes so you can do basic electrical repairs? What do you do and what level are you prepared to take it to? When do you say stop, I need a garage? Im all for people repairing their own cars. My internet life revolves around offering repair information but most people don’t understand it, they just want to find the cheapest garage available.

A Dublin lad! Spent a while working there. Always good to connect with people from home. I spent a while working near Ballyfermot. I visited Ballymun once but that’s an experience better not talked about 😂

It’s a bastardised form of Gaelic. No fadas, a few English words here and there. My first language was speaking bullshit so I find it hard to communicate with people sometimes 😂

This is life. If someone doesn’t want to listen to proper technical advice and wants to keep chasing the lowest price, then good luck to them. Let them deal with high repair costs instead of medium maintenance costs.

My advice, open the oil cap and look inside. If it needs flushed, it needs flushed, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. These bottles of engine flush you see that you put in the oil, they’re mostly paraffin. So if you want to save money put a pint of paraffin in the engine, run it for 15 minutes and drain the oil when it’s still hot. Gallons of flushing oil, I wouldn’t put them in any engine. You don’t know what’s in it. The jars aren’t even marked with a grade. Good way to heck up an engine fast. If your engine is really sludged up, no amount of flushing products will fix it. You need to remove the rocker covers and sump and put paraffin or diesel through the oil galleries under pressure. Heres a particularly shitty one I worked on. Rental car company customer, always used the cheapest oil available. Were suprised when the engine siezed up 6 weeks after this. I refuse to deal with rental companies now. If other mechanics want to cut each other’s throats and do oil changes for 30 dhs, let them have at it.

Has anyone seen this stuff on their travels? Ive already ordered from souq 3 times, and 3 times they have sent me something completely different and wrong. At this stage, I’ve lost all faith in souq and I needed this last week so I’m not prepared to trust them again. If anyone knows of a shop where I can just walk in, pay cash and get this, the information would be very much appreciated.
