  1. 2012 was the year they changed to add a proper Eco button. If your car is late 2012, there will be a button on the dash that says Eco. If it’s early 2012, you’ll have to cycle through the menus with the trip buttons. Read your owners manual. BTW, The Eco light will only be illuminated when you’re driving sensibly. If you drive hard, it will extinguish.
  2. I’ve never heard of foam cell shocks until now, had to do a bit of reading on it. Sounds good for on road every day driving but in an off road situation where the suspension is constantly working, it can’t be a good thing. When your shocks fail, you’re relying solely on the springs for your suspension, and that makes your ride bouncy as heck and you’ll bottom out a lot. I’m not an off roader but from what I’ve learned, oil filled seems like the king. Sometimes old school is best. For on road use, I’d always go for gas.
  3. They all look like bottle jacks to me 😊
  4. Indeed. I’ve been on a few off road drives and I see what happens. I’ve seen weekend warriors sticking their head underneath a car that’s only supported by a trolley jack on a plank in the sand. I cannot stress how not cool this is. An extra plank and an extra axle stand should be part of the standard off road kit but I’ve never seen this advertised in any off-road clubs kit. You might get away with it, you might not. A cracked skull with a bit of brain matter squishing through through your broken head isn’t cool. I’ve seen it in real life This kind of stuff does and will happen. My first job in UAE was in a garage in Sharjah. Standard crappy garage. The jack was leaking oil. The owner told me to jack the car up and see why it wasn’t shifting gears. I said no way, your jack is leaking. I stuck a stand under the car and jacked it up. The jack collapsed and the stand saved my life. I survived because I put a jack stand under the car. Other than than I would have been replaceable, just order a new mechanic on dubizzle. Bad shit can and will happen. Never get underneath an unsupported car.
  5. Cayenne hands down. Test drive both and see. BMW build quality isn’t even close to Porsche.
  6. A tear in the intake pipe will cause a power issue too because the engine is using unmetered air, ie air that enters the engine but hasn’t travelled through and been measured by the airflow meter, therefore the ECU will send a wrong signal to the fuel system.
  7. Type of jack depends on the surface you’re jacking on. Scissor jacks aren’t called suicide jacks for nothing. They’re a last resort for changing a wheel at the side of the road. Trolley jacks are king, but only if they’re used on a flat surface. The wheels can roll and adjust. I love bottle jacks. I don’t know why people are scared of them. If you put it on a plank, it’s the same as spreading the load on a trolley jack. @treks can tell you that air jacks are cool but they can damage your engine. All forms of jacking have their pros and cons but the most important thing which hasn’t been mentioned yet, if you jack a vehicle up, make sure it’s supported. Axle stands are cheap. If you jack your car up, stick an axle stand under it with a plank under the stand. Jacking can and will go wrong. My friends father was crushed to death. He jacked the car up with a trolley jack, rolled under to change the oil filter. The jack failed and he was dead. My ex employer also died. A proper car lift failed and he was crushed to death. Things can go wrong and they do. Remember that. If you jack a car up, whatever type of jack you use, make sure there’s some sort of mechanical backup, even if it’s only 2 stacked up wheels.
  8. My worst off road stuck started off started off as an on road adventure. I lost the back of the car and went through a hedge backwards at around 80mph. I ended up in the middle of probably the swampiest field I’ve ever seen. The farmer wasn’t happy about me waking him up at 2 am to borrow a tractor to pull the car out. I was even less happy when he bent my subframe with the tractor but I wasn’t in a position to argue. We pulled the car out and it wouldn’t even move because everything was so out of shape so we left it on the side of the road. I came back the next day with parts and tools loaded up on the back of my bicycle and fixed it at the side of the road and did the drive of shame home.
  9. Crazy, but that’s how it goes, millions of people, living as foes 🎶 It’s not a V, it’s a custom shape designed by Randy. The guitar is probably worth more than I have advertised it for, just check out the hardware, it’s hardcore. I’d love to keep it but I want to buy a ESP Snakebyte and have some spare cash to modify it
  10. Honestly @Ren13 this is a full on badass metal guitar that megadeth could walk on stage and play a gig with. It’s not something you can walk into virgin megastore and buy. It’s a proper import. I hate to sell it but I need to free up some space.
  11. Has to be better than the lady gaga Metallica 2017 Grammys performance. I loved the practice session but when it came to the live performance, they messed it up. James microphone didn’t work. The Grammys hate metal. When they were doing the death notices this year, vinnie Paul didn’t even get a mention. Vinnie Paul? Pantera? Huh? The band who invented sludge metal? Totally ignored.
  12. Satin black finish with black pick guard Locking nut Floyd Rose tremolo Alder body Ebony fretboard with shark inlays EMG 81 active pickup on bridge Custom EMG 89 active pickup on neck Jumbo frets 25.5” scale Pearl binding on neck and headstock Real special edition guitar. One of only 50 pieces, never to be manufactured again. Originally commissioned by the guitar god Randy Rhoads. Proper collectors item, the value of this guitar will only go up. This guitar has been kept in storage and is in as new condition. Also comes with custom Ritter gig bag with shoulder and backpack straps. Price is 3,500 dhs. Negotiable. Will also consider trades. I will throw in a brand new set of Dunlop straploks. Will also offer 3 hours of guitar lessons for the lucky new owner.
  13. I hate scotty Kilmer with a passion. He’s a hack mechanic. I’ve seen too much false information on a few of his videos so I don’t even click the links anymore. You can learn more watching fast and loud. Eric the car guy used to be good but I think he ran out of things to talk about so his video quality went down. Humblemechanic is good if you’re into vw. My personal favourite is scanner danner. He really goes all out on diagnostics and helps the viewer to understand the problem so they can fix it first time. Ive kinda given up on YouTube car tutorial videos lately. I think I’ve just reached a stage where it’s like yeah, I know, and I’d rather watch some lady gaga videos. I still like watching car videos like racing etc but yeah, lady gaga>scotty kilmer
  14. This is why you mix soda water with your vodka and cranberry. Rehydrate as you dehydrate 😊
  15. I see that a lot here. Customers head gasket blows, “mechanic” tells customer to buy a new engine because he doesn’t have either the knowledge or the confidence to fix it. Same with rattly bottom ends. I’ve never met a mechanic here who understands the process of regrinding a crankshaft and using oversize shells. New engine is always the answer. I’d always choose a rebuilt engine over an unknown scrapyard engine, it’s going to last a lot longer. But only if I built it or someone I knew built it.
  16. Come for a holiday to my home place. Many colours of pills are available. Just not in UAE 😊
  17. I am Morpheus, Neo and the Oricle all rolled into one 😝
  18. That looks like an under bumper mounted flashing brake light. Seen a few of them. Not a bad idea. A lot of people will see a flashing light before they see a constant light. The bottom image looks like a ghetto JDM fake towing eye. The Filipinos seem to love them, no offence to our Filipino members, my wife is filipina, but totally useless in the real world. Form over function.
  19. Thank you so much. It’s hard to believe it’s my 10th 26th birthday. People be acting all old and stuff, but nobody ever tells you that your mindset doesn’t get older but your body will hurt a little bit more every day.
  20. Legend says the RAV4 also acted in the Dukes of Hazzard wearing fancy dress Look, same eyes, different trousers,
  21. Second vote for KYB. I’ve been using them for 20 years and I give preference to them over manufacturer branded shocks. Unless we’re going into more expensive stuff, then I would recommend Koni Gas Adjustables, totally pointless for every day driving though. KYB is same quality as dealer but better price. Kayaba is a well established brand who know what they are doing. If you’re driving on tarmac, go for the KYB Gas filled shocks. Little bit more expensive (not much) than oil filled, but the ride is so much better. The only downside is that gas shocks wear out a little bit faster than oil filled shocks but we’re not talking about much. 60-70k for gas shocks versus 70-80k for oil filled so in the grand scheme of things for long term use, it’s nothing. A few extra dirhams for your comfort every day is totally worth it. Also, change the top mounts if you are changing the shocks. It costs money but it isn’t too expensive. If you have to pay for a second set of labour, 10, 15, 20k down the line, it will cost more.
  22. Like @desertdude once said, RTFM. Any car I’ve ever owned, it wasn’t long until the dashboard got opened up and the beep beep either got stabbed with a screwdriver or hit with a hammer. Sometimes you just want to sit in the car with the door open and enjoy a smoke with the radio on and not have a beep beep messing with your peaceful state of mind.
  23. Some say the last 2 people to see the RAV4 were Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles, and we all know what happened to them.
