  1. Welcome to the club. Did you get your yearly check for 10k aed yet?
  2. Hahahaha I've spent half my life fixing and modifying stuff that the engineers got wrong.
  3. It really is as simple as just pulling the fuse out. The owners manual will tell you which one or there might be a diagram inside the fuse box lid. When you put it back in and restart the car the warning light should cycle as normal then go out. If it doesn't it's just a matter of disconnecting the positive battery lead and touching it to the negative battery terminal to reset. There will be a fault code stored in the ecu but don't worry, it's just a stored history code and won't affect anything. Just remember this incase you go to a garage and the mechanic tells you there is a fault and tries to rip you off with an unnecessary repair.
  4. Nice solution and even nicer price. How is it wired up? A switch then you turn it and off as required?
  5. I've heard it will be 5%. 5% is nothing really. I would be happy to pay 5% for the privilege of living and working in UAE. Before I came here I was paying an extra 20% on top of everything I purchased. That's not even counting things like the extra 60p (3 dhs) they charge as tax on a litre of fuel. On top of the 20% vat. And before I even purchased anything, they had already taken 20% income tax and 12% national insurance so 32% of my salary was gone before I could spend any of it. 5%? Where do I sign up? There will be ways around it though. There will still be plenty of guys around working for cash in hand payment, no accounting etc.
  6. Not sure if it's possible but it's being reported http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/india-electric-cars-2030-fossil-fuel-air-pollution-piyush-goyal-climate-change-a7711381.html
  7. In the U.K. we sometimes cover number plates because anyone can go into any parts store and have any number plate made on the spot. Some unscrupulous people will copy a number plate from a car the same as their own and use the car for crime which leads to the real plate owner getting hassle from the police while the criminal usually gets away with it. The process is known as ringing. As for UAE, I have no idea because this sort of crime is not possible due to the way number plates are distributed. I can only guess it's down to either paranoia or stupidity or a combination of both.
  8. @DiamondDallas I can get you a Del Sol for 4500 dhs but it's right hand drive. If you can find a scrapyard here with the parts I can convert it.
  9. Basic physics. If you brake harshly mid turn, you'll upset the balance of the car shifting the weight to the front and causing the back to slide. This can also happen if you're committed to a corner at speed and suddenly lift off the accelerator in a phenomenon known as lift off oversteer. Modern ABS and ESP systems can help with these problems but personally, I think they cause as many problems as they solve. People don't learn to drive properly, they rely on the car to balance itself out and push way beyond their limits. Put drivers like this in an old car with no aids and they will spin out on the first lap of a track. The correct way is to brake before you reach the corner, turn in, hit the apex and mash the accelerator as soon as you see your exit point. Lift off oversteer in a FWD car is fun when you get the hang of it and you can sometimes put the RWD guys to shame.
  10. @Gaurav Sorry, I don't know. @Jaan Rambo Pajero is the king of the desert. At a guess I have 10-12 customers with Pajeros and they are more reliable than most of the stuff out there.
  11. I don't know of a local supplier, maybe someone else on here can suggest but if you don't mind waiting for delivery, eBay would be a good place to check. Labour cost won't be too bad, it's around an hours work to fit. Remove the grille, 2 pipes and 2 bolts, fit the new one, refit the grille and top up or change the oil.
  12. If the light is on it's best to let the car cool for a bit before continuing. The best solution is to fit a bigger, uprated transmission oil cooler. It'll work out a lot cheaper than a new gearbox. What condition is the transmission oil in? It should be a nice red color. If it's brown, it's time to change it. If it's black it might be too late.
  13. Try spraying some WD40 on all the hinge points first and cycle it a few times and see if it makes a difference.
  14. Probably anything more than 15mm lowering springs and it'll scrub on rough roads if you have 3 big guys in the back. Your best solution would be to buy a set of quality coilovers from someone like bilstein, koni or gaz then you can adjust to suit. If you're planning on just lowering springs then heavier duty shock absorbers will be your friend.
  15. I got my hands on one of these today so made a short video to show you the quality. just to note, I didn't buy this. A friend purchased it in bur Dubai at the weekend for 150 dhs. To the untrained eye, it looks like an iPhone 6s 64 gb. Search through the settings and it will tell you it's a 6s 64gb. It even looks like it's running iOS 10.3.1. Type the serial number into the apple website and it even comes up as genuine. but...... Its not iOS. It's android running a skin to make it look like iOS. If you are an apple user you will notice the font is slightly different. The camera doesn't work. The usual apps like Whatsapp etc are pre installed. It's not possible to get Whatsapp to run. When you start the app, it says that the time is wrong and it should be Chinese standard time. No amount of changing the time and date makes it work. When you try to install new apps, the phone says memory full but go into settings, about and it says you have 60gb free space remaining. If someone in the street tries to sell you a cheap iPhone, be aware. It is cheap for a reason. Caveat emptor.
  16. From what I see, 20% of it is luck. You can modify your car and you might get stopped and you might not. The other 80% is not being a dickhead. If you have a loud exhaust then ok, if you drive sensibly the chances are that nobody will notice or bother you. If you're flooring it from a standstill every time, chances are someone will get pissed off and report you. Especially if it's in a residential area. When I was living in U.K. I was big into the street racing scene and me and my friends used to wind up the police by using loopholes in the law. The exhaust law basics are, if a car came with a catalytic converter from the factory, it has to have a catalytic converter and all exhaust systems must have at least one silencer. We got around this by beating the insides out of the cat with a hammer and a long bar so when testing time came, it looks factory from the outside but is actually empty and free flowing. The rest of the system is straight piped with either a cherry bomb or peco big bore silencer. These are two awesome back boxes as they are free flowing and don't actually silence the exhaust but are technically classed as silencers in the testers eyes. TL:DR Modify your exhaust but be sensible about making noise in built up areas. Keep your old exhaust safe too in case you get an awkward tester and need to refit it for a few days.
  17. Is it possible that the front speakers are being over powered and the head units internal amplifier is temporarily shutting down to save damage? I think an email to pioneers technical department would produce a proper answer.
  18. Unfortunately I got caught up with something else and didn't make it.
  19. I recommend following ScannerDanner channel on YouTube if you want to learn a bit more about diagnostics. He explains everything nicely, a lot better than I can.
  20. http://www.citywalk.ae/events/CITY OVERDRIVE 2017 I'm going to this tomorrow. If anyone wants to meet up give me a call or send Whatsapp 0521742967
  21. In 16 years I could probably count the number of computer fails on one hand. The one I will always remember is a Peugeot ECU that failed and sent a spike to my nice new scanner and fried it. The supplier said 'user error' and wouldn't replace it so I had to go buy a new one. How do you charge a repair job accordingly when something like that happens?
  22. I initially thought it was a battery issue. I've seen things like this happen before when terminals were loose or earth points were corroded. Even a battery of the wrong type and ampage can cause things like this. The vehicle recently had a new battery fitted so the first thing I had to do was rule it out. It turned out to be an fault in the brake light switch. The ECU, TCM etc were receiving intermittent data and were getting confused as to what the vehicle was actually doing. 110 dhs for a new switch and everything was as good as new. So many people tell me they hate modern cars because there are so many electrical systems all communicating through computers and it's too complicated. My answer is always, it's not complicated, you just don't understand it. With a little bit of time and logical thinking, it's easy to fault find in modern cars when you have some understanding of how the systems operate and how they can affect each other. Personally, I much prefer working on stuff with modern injection and electronic ignition systems. It's so much easier than stripping down carburetors and distributors etc to see what's going on.
  23. So, just for a bit of fun... Here is a scan I done on a Range Rover sport a few days ago. Most of the fault codes where relating to invalid data being sent to the ecu. Anyone want to take a guess what the problem was? It was something so simple you wouldn't believe it.
