  1. Overnight camping in Sharjah is still not permitted if I remember correctly. In Dubai Al Qudra is your best option but it’s extremely busy nowadays. Have a look at our entry points of the Absolute Newbie drives. These are nice places to enter and you can venture deeper inside but make sure you are with 3 capable 4x4 cars at least and one has experience in handling recoveries in a safe way.
  2. Hi Francois you’ll be in convoy 1: Convoy 1 Setup: LEAD: Asif Hussain - Nissan Xterra (050 699 0411) mobile only for emergency use Members: @Ahab Shamaa @Arda Yagcioglu @SureshVNair @Archibald Jurdi @Sinol @Francois Germishuys@Ashok chaturvedi Support from: @Rahimdad and @Brette Carnity Channel #3: 446.05625 Mhz Meeting Point Convoy 1:https://maps.app.goo.gl/RNbxJpXeC7tUtNsz8
  3. Totally agree. Wattage is being thrown around on the boxes and spec sheets but there is no real rules or regulation so they can put what they want to they want on the box. Your formulas are right. In fact you should look at the lumens but again they will put on the box what they want. My recommendation is to just give it a try and look at the thickness of the wiring. If it’s a very tiny flimsy wire it won’t be made for 400 Watts 😜
  4. Thanks so much buddy. Like Rahimdad says we’re all mentally and physically preparing us, and the joy of scaling the highest dunes in the world is something we really look out for, but most of all knowing that we have such a strong community of members looking out for each other. Thank you and God bless !
  5. Great we will add you to the convoy. Get ready for the adventure !
  6. Hi @Francois Germishuys this event has been posted more than two weeks back and requires a lot of preparation such as DPI test to be able to cross the border, Jerrycan with extra fuel, and a fully serviced vehicle. I have closed the RSVP a half hour back but can allow you in only if you confirm you have ALL preparations taken care off....
  7. DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED I hope by now you guys are preparing your vehicles, checking the oil levels, filling up the jerry-can, and getting the much needed rest. Although I see some are still doing a morning drive tomorrow (hats off to that).. Its about a 3,5 hour drive from Dubai (depending where you live) and I hope you take enough rest beforehand and come prepared for a day full of amazing adventures which will amaze you, but will be tiring and demanding as well. The LIWA desert can be unforgiving and we will need to work together as a team to get the convoy moving. I will stress on the fact that your radios should be fully charged, shovels, flags and a compressor are an absolute necessity, and your vehicle gas tank should be full upon your arrival with the extra 20L jerrycan with you. I would also highly advise you to wear protective clothing, closed shoes, and a cap to protect you during this long day. The COVID rules as we are applying them on our weekly drives are valid in LIWA as well. We will be having two convoys, of which @Asif Hussain will be leading the first convoy, and I will be leading the second. For the ones who have not met Asif yet, he has been with Carnity from the early days and his work behind the screens and his amazing drives he is organizing in Abu-Dhabi every week shows his commitment and amazing amount of skills to choose the right tracks and lead convoys through this challenging terrain. Convoy numbering will be announced in the morning once we see all the members having arrived safely. Convoy 1 Setup: LEAD: Asif Hussain - Nissan Xterra (050 699 0411) mobile only for emergency use Members: @Ahab Shamaa @Arda Yagcioglu @SureshVNair @Archibald Jurdi @Sinol @Francois Germishuys@Ashok chaturvedi Support from: @Rahimdad and @Brette Carnity Channel #3: 446.05625 Mhz Meeting Point Convoy 1:https://maps.app.goo.gl/RNbxJpXeC7tUtNsz8 Convoy 2 Setup: LEAD: Frederic - Pajero SWB (056 504 26 32) mobile only for emergency use Members: @Malachy McGrogan @jodha singh shekhawat @Ranjan Das @Abu Muhammad @siddharth maheshwari @Lucky sAm @Athula Dharmadada @Yasas Dharmadasa Support from @Wrangeld and @Lorenzo Candelpergher Carnity Channel #4: 446.08125 Mhz Meeting Point Convoy 2:https://maps.app.goo.gl/sbJd7AKqXixPh5dm8 Please be sharp on time 08:00AM as we will be moving immediately after deflation and we will not wait for members who are late. Action Plan: We will be driving the whole day going southwards with the plan to reach Moreeb Dune by 4PM where we will meetup with the other Carnity Convoys. If you cannot make it, please leave a message on the drive topic and remove your RSVP. See you guys Wednesday morning !
  8. Hi Jun there are open spaces. I will add you. Make sure to read the drive topic with regards to DPI test to cross the border and all the other information such as spare fuel etc..
  9. @Xavier Treasurer some remaining spots became available so if you are interested in shifting to the Fewbie convoy please let me know so i can put you in. In that case kindly inform the Newbie convoy lead on the drive topic. @SureshVNair can you please confirm you will attend the LIWA drive ?
  10. Maybe just be sure you can ask the medical staff where you take the PCR test tomorrow
  11. To all Fewbies joining the LIWA drive: Kindly fill in your Emergency Contact Details in your account profile. That includes blood group, alternate contact details, and insurance details. Please also specify medical conditions (if any). This information remains private and is only accessible for the Marshals in case of emergency. Thanks !
  12. Hi @Ahab Shamaa yes that test will be valid and you should take out the printout with you if possible. Make sure the test is done no later than 48hours before crossing the border.
  13. @Abilash Madhavan Hi Abilash, you might have not noticed that we are going to LIWA with 5 convoys on coming Wednesday and Thursday, which is an event that needs a lot of planning and hence there will be no Newbie drives next Friday. This is a once in a year event that will exhaust us all so would appreciate your understanding.
  14. @Probir Mukherjee there is a slot available on the Fewbie level drive. You are currently signed into the Newbie level drive, please inform which drive you prefer ?
  15. Important Update: As we are getting closer to Liwa It seems that due to the national Day holiday, a huge rush is expected at the Ghantoot testing center especially during the day time and probably till late in the evening. And so, if you dont have an appointment there will most likely not let you in. Hence, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND, everyone to do the DPI test in advance through the SEHA app at the National Screening Centers. There are no slots anymore in Dubai before few days, but you can still find some at Sharjah Shooting Club tomorrow. I am sure that none of you would want to miss the opportunity of Liwa just because of the DPI test.
  16. @Lucky sAm as the RSVP has one free slot and you requested to shift the first one, I will add you to the drive.
  17. What a fantastic introduction @Atif ! I remember joining the club and cafeteria Atif at the end of each drive with wonderful Karak Chai from either you or Rahim Bhai. Probably none of us thought that two years later Carnity has become the fastest growing, hardest working, and most amazing off-road club of the UAE and that the community spirit has groomed people of all backgrounds to become seniors who contribute on a weekly basis by supporting or leading drives. I for one feel blessed to be able to be a part of this big family and if I can speak for all the other seniors we are delighted to see you back in the sands. The dynamics of Carnity might have changed but the values of being your second family will remain the same. See you soon in the sandbox !
