  1. Aha, I am going to necrodrink my port now, 30 years old! Cheers Dude
  2. Yes I did, What does that matter?
  3. Aha! So you also like burning rubber, Turbos, Ethanol and screaming engines!!!!
  4. some groups have a whats-app or telegram group. The upgrades are announced in those groups. Also all the drives and chit chat. I prefer carnity’s method, a whats group with notifications where nobody can response and a forum where we can chit chat. This keeps my phone free from all the notification and when I have time and i’m bored I can go online and dig in it.
  5. @Shamil, I was thinking about it, I don't have real knowledge about it, did some research on the net and youtube. How far do we have to trust reviewers on youtube, but still it was my decision not to do it. Main reason, I don't have an own garage to work on my car, you might have one. Labour costs are relative cheap in our area. I prefer to let my car wax once a year, to threat the small scratches. An example:
  6. Thank you everybody. @Rahimdad thank you for the past critics and input, it helped me to improve my technique. Lets throw some sand!! 😆
  7. Was not sure if I could wake up in the morning due to jet lag, but at 04:00 I was already walking around. Didn't want to wake up my other half, but in some way I could convince her to join me. We made it just before 06:30 at the meeting point 😅. I am not going to give a full trip report. Lazy mood. It was a nice relaxing drive. Learned a few things again that I added to my baggage. The feedback I want to give is, I was driving behind Adam, the black 2doors Wrangler. In my opinion he was doing very well, by choosing a slight different track and taking a conservative distance. Understands the importance of momentum. Hope to catch the drive on the 27th. If I won't see you, till next year
  8. @Srikumar If you are going to change the wheels, I would start with searching the wheels you like with less offset. For example; if your rim has ET0, go for -30, that would be the same as a spacer of 30mm. Regarding different size and offset compared with the original, you can check it with this: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=285-70-17X8ET50&wheel2=295-70-17X8.5ET0&scl=1.96875in&wcl=1.1875in&fcl=1in&sr=0in I would give it a try in Sharjah, a set for 4 wheels costs between 1000-2000 aed (you need probably 5) (chinese copy) I have no idea for your XJ, but don’t give up if they don’t have your wheels with the offset you like. Try the next shop, they might have a set somewhere upstairs stored. If you can’t find your wheel with correct offset, then I would go for spacers. Quality spacers are not cheap, so I am sure u will be cheaper of when you go for wheels with correct offset. Good luck
  9. Don't mind to take something with me for you, only the delivery is sometimes unreliable. I only stay 2 days in the USA for work, and when we are going to order something, we have to be sure it will be delivered in this timeframe. Ordering too early, the risk exist that my schedule changes and nobody can pick it up. Ask Santa for a nice 4x4
  10. Double check if you can use steel rims with the spacers. Mine are saying, "don't use with steel rims"
  11. bon anniversaire Emmanuel!
  12. My first cars were all second hand Germans. Still young and wanted to be cool, all my money went into these money pits. But no responsibility yet, so I could justify it. Then I decided to change my career and went back to study again. My Golf mk3 TDI gave it up and I needed something to transport myself. I couldn’t afford a car so I continued on my Honda CB. (Also in Dutch Winter). The first car I bought then, was a Daihatsu Cuore 3cylinder. Small ugly car, but it did the job. When I had to do some maintenance one day, came the moment of realization of the price difference to maintain. After my Daihatsu I “upgraded” myself with a Honda civic. Till today still best and cheapest car I’ve owned. This made me stick to the Asian brands.
  13. I like the sounds that my car is producing while I working with it. Not only the engine but as well the suspension, gears, driveshaft and sand that goes over/in it. I tried to drive with music, it is nice to surf over the dunes when I am alone and there is nobody around me, but it has a big disadvantage, you can’t hear the surrounding, so also no other traffic. With the group I want to keep my attention to the radio. If I would have a system to connect my 2 way radio to the audio system of the car and it would dim the audio of the music when somebody is transmitting on the frequency, then I would certainly listen to music during the newbie drives. (Yes, this exist) So what do I listen, Bob Marley, Audioslave, Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder. Giorgio Moroder??? Few people will frown their eyebrows. I like classical music, but during a road trip it is just not doing it for me. Giorgio Moroder is the electrical variant of classical music. For the unknown;
  14. Because this is public I have to be diplomatic with what I write. I am not an engineer, nor a specialist in avionics. As you remember, the beginning of the gsm, when your phone was close to a speaker and somebody was calling you, or your phone was roaming, we could hear the typical zoom. This is simply an interference. Nowadays we don’t hear it anymore. I am not sure if it is the hardware of our mobile phones that has changed with time or that a different frequency is used that doesn’t interfere with our electrical equipment. To avoid any interference that time with any instruments, may it be the speakers of the plane, tv screens, or avionics from the flightdeck, companies restricted and forbid the use of a cellphone during the whole flight. Nowadays there is no interference anymore. Different companies have different rules and you should follow what they ask you to do. The reason why they do this, is all from a regulation and insurance perspective. So the nice looking cabin crew who ask you gently to switch off your phone during taxiing has a valid reason for this, this is her/his job to do. Some companies have satcom connection and you can actually switch on your whole phone, not only the wifi but also your roaming and you can make a phone call. Your mobile provider will charge you for this. Nothing will happen with any of the systems on board when a phone is on during cruise. Why do they still ask to switch your phone to flight mode during take off and landing? A reason is that this is a phase of flight were the crew needs your attention, to pay attention to the security instructions or other important information.
  15. I haven’t flown it by myself, but I have an opinion and heard stories from other people. Bigger screens, bigger instruments, better overview. The things are there where you want to see them. It is more comfortable to work. From maintenance perspective, screens become cheaper and instead of different parts you have now one big module. I am looking forward to work with it.
  16. Don’t want to hijack this now, maybe we can continue somewhere else. Is a dashcam legal in UAE? If you have footage, can you use it in court? Or opposite, are you now breaking the law and can the other party use it against you.
  17. To the other members and public, what the seniors are trying to say and they are right, is that this can happen: a picture tells more than 1000 words.
