  1. I also think having a manual is a great idea. It could be "Carnity's Offroad Essentials Guide", issued in PDF format, and would periodically be updated with new information. The Carnity team has already done an incredible job of creating all the content, so it's just a matter of putting it in a single document, categorizing and indexing it, and making it available for download for every new member. It would also have Carnity's branding and legal disclaimers regarding liability. At the end of the document it could have a multiple choice test, where the reader could do a self-test to ensure they understand the most essential aspects of an off-road drive before they sign up for the drive. I've attached RTA's Driving Handbook as a sample. RTA_Handbook_-_Light_Motor_Vehicle_(LMV)_-_English.pdf
  2. Thank you all for your very constructive comments, it has been very educational. I've decided to run the wires for my existing air compressor in the trunk; and once this fails, I'll install the onboard ARB dual compressor.
  3. Thank you all for your kind and warm messages. It's a privilage to be part of such a supportive and active community. Can I just ask a couple of dumb questions? How can I embed videos in my posts? And is it not possible to send private messages to members? Cheers!
  4. Here is another example of a 360 camera in use. A long extension arm attached to the car with tripod style suction cups. IMG_6507_Trim.mp4
  5. Thank you @Javier M Where did you have yours mounted in the car? And may I ask which shop did it for you, how much you paid and if you were happy with the work they did. Thank you!
  6. Hi everyone, so as all the off-roaders know, an air compressor is an essential tool when going off-roading since you have to deflate and inflate for each session. I have three questions: 1. Has anyone used the on-board ARB system? What are your thoughts? Since it's mounted in the engine bay and pre-wired to the battery, it seems convenient. Also they are apparently much quicker than the conventional compressors found at ACE and Dragon Mart. But I'm reading a lot of negative reviews about it breaking down after 8-10 months of use. 2. Has anyone installed and pre-wired the conventional air compressors like this one? It doesn't seem like a difficult task, and would make the process more convenient and less time consuming. They are much cheaper than the ARB system, and the time difference to full inflation is minimal. 3. Anyone have any experience with CO2 air tanks? The disadvantage is that they need to be refilled; but the advantage is that apparently they are much less prone to failure (since they have less moving parts), and also they are much quicker than air compressors. Any thoughts? Thank you!
  7. Thank you @Michael sammy and @Frederic ! By the way I changed the shoes on "The Beast" down to 18" (from 20"s) and put on some Cooper AT3's for better sand traction. Now countring down the minutes to our next drive... 😃
  8. Thank you @Gaurav for this incredible news! And thank you to the entire Carnity team for providing a safe and carefully structured learning environment for all of us. You guys are doing an amazing job.
  9. Congratulations @Jun Zamora on this well deserved promotion! On our last drive you were very helpful to me with your recommendations for a service shop, and demonstrated a high sense of responsibility for the entire convoy, and excellent communication as a sweep. Looking forward to going on more off-road adventures together.
  10. I think you're better off changing the bumper itself to an offroad version which is half the size, to give a better approach angle. The skid plate is still going to get caught on the ground when off roading and place significant force on the front end, and limit your maneuverability. I had the stock Platinum bumper on my Y62: Broke it virtually in half during an off road session, and had it replaced with this fiber glass version bought in Sharjah, including the LED light, painting and installation, for just under 2,000 AED: But today I was searching for a new body kit, and found a shop in Dubai called Samurai - Eagle, that apparently import their kits directly from Japan. The design looks amazing, but I'm struggling to pull the trigger because of the price. (10k AED for front & rear bumper and diffuser, including paint and installation).
  11. Hi @Gregory Perkin It was a pleasure meeting you on Friday. It's funny how getting up for work takes 8 alarms, multiple snooze hits, several gallons of coffee, and fifty seven curse words. But waking up on Friday at 5am for my first Carnity off-road drive required only a single beep of the alarm..
  12. Instead of a GoPro, I recommend a 360 camera like the Rylo. You mount it on the windshield with a suction cup, and it takes 360 degree video, and then you can choose the ideal frame you want in the app on your phone afterwards. Very easy and intuitive. Or, as in this video, you can choose to show both front and rear angles in the same frame. IMG_6439_Trim.mp4
  13. @Frederic @Gaurav and @Rahimdad thank you for your guidance and patience. The off roading experience is already amazing, but you guys made it even more enjoyable. I'm already looking forward to the next Drive. Thank you! Cheers, Salar.
  14. H Zaheer, Info is posted on the first post of this thread: Meeting Point : Al Qudra https://goo.gl/maps/FbLs4vy99taAEzbTA
  15. Hi Everyone, Just joined Carnity to come along on the off-road adventures. I have a stock Y62 Patrol Platinum with standard hooks. I've done the EDI desert driving course, and I'm an expert in getting myself stuck in sticky situations when off-roading. Looking forward to learning from you all tomorrow!
