  1. These are two issues I faced with the Open Top + Sand. Others have varying milage on their open top. This year I am contemplating to remove the top for the on road driving but will put it back for the off-roading. 2. I had removed the hard top last year. You can do it yourself if you have access to 1 or 2 of your friends who can help lift the hard top. All you need is the tool set provided by Jeep to remove it. I had stored in my parking lot, Being the last car in the row I have some space besides my parking, alternatively you may use one of those standing lift storage systems or strollers in the designated parking space itself. i use tool bags for storing all my gear they don’t move around and easier to move in and out of the car. I have 3 bags, 1 with 3 piece AOR shovel, kinetic rope, 2 with tools 3 with Air tools (air hose etc). I keep the first recovery bag in the passenger side foot rest, rest two behind the front seats between in rear seats, they don’t move or rattle as well. Alternatively you can put it in the rear and strap them for extra security. Last year after I removed the top and drove in the sand, a lot of sand slid into the speakers and they stated to make rattling sound and had hard time getting rid of it. Had a heater button failure (tho it happened after I put back the roof) and finally when i had it fixed that the mechanics cleaned all the sand. However exciting it seems, frankly it’s not worth the trouble to remove it for the desert. And as it is a Jeep already makes awful lot of noise and even more after you remove the top. Plus the dust and heat. While the temperature readings on the weather app shows lower temps the actual on road temps are too high. Removing tops in US makes sense where they don’t have all the dust like we have while going off-roading in the mountains & rock crawling etc. I am more concerned about dust and sand in my car because my Jeep is a daily driver and I like a clean car. I go lengths to make sure that the car interiors are in perfect condition (tho if one were to look at anytime might differ that ascertion - since as a off-road car as well, you can do only so much) Having said all that you - need to experience the fun of topless car first hand, you do. So go ahead remove it and put it in your parking spot. if you have a designated covered parking I am sure no one will flick it off that location.
  3. @Foxtrot Oscar can you please waitlist me for my second drive of the week?
  4. I was thinking the same thing... I don't know who three members were, when, where, why and what happened. But I just missed my afternoon Abu Dhabi Drive that's all.
  5. This post is for the bookies out there. Who's going to win? Who do you bet on? I set out to write an analysis but I think I will leave the members to analyze these numbers, as they say facts are stubborn things, but statistics are pliable so, these are the facts: # of Drives is the drives I have driven Drives Completed are total drives the member has completed including other drives. W. Avg Drives are Newbie drives X1 + Febie x2.... divided by total drive. higher the number better it is. Frequency is in days.
  6. Congratulations @JeromeFJ well done. you deserve it
  7. Congratulations @varunmehndiratta well done and well deserved.
  8. I can understand the urge.. you need to be quick with your fingers on Sunday evening 7 p.m sharp to select the drive you want to join. If you have joined the WhatsApp notification group then you will get a message around 11 am in the morning of Sunday for the schedule next weekend. decide in the morning and be quick quick quick when the messages start drping in your inbox. Good luck this week
  9. Looks like ADNOC Service Station | Al Faya Shahinat - 3 (764) is the nearest petrol station. @Lorenzo Candelpergher Once filled up here do we need to carry extra fuel back home after the drive?
  10. @takeshi sobue you have added yourself in manage tab in this drive also. This is again a Fewbie Drive and you are still Newbie and also, to manage one needs to be in the Support Team and above levels. Please see these two posts: Levels of Off Road Drives Off Road Drive Grading Structure

  13. Hope this helps: Option 1: 70 Mail / Garmin or other Advantages: Records in 2.7k Video that one can crop without loss for 1080p videos Has Decent Night Mode Decent Wide Angle Video as well Its your normal Dash Cam that you are re-purposing it for action cam - always present in your car and always recording. Latest Gen 70mail records GPX data as well so if you want to overlay that in your video you can do it as well Heat resistant - I have never seen my camera stop because of heat (a. because of the smaller sensor, b. no battery c. the way they are made). Cheaper than other video cameras (bar repurposed phones) No need to remember to record anything - no planning needed Disadvantages You wont get 4k Video and not too good optics. fixed place to mount - only one on the dash Single purpose use. Mine does not capture gpx data so I use Gaia data to overlay on my videos (if I ever do it that is) Dash cams don't show the action as well as an action cam can, somehow I feel they show the video slower than they are. Option 2: GopPro/Sony/DJI Action Cams Advantages Higher Resolution up to 4k Better Optics & image stabilization plus upto 240 fps or timelapse recording GPX data recoding and easy to overlay on videos Can be mounted on many different locations and they are generally waterproof using cases. You can use it for other than drives as well. Possibility to live telecast on social media with some devices (gopro does it). Disadvantages More expensive compared to a dash cam also you end-up buying into the whole ecosystem. Gets hot quickly and in summer it might stop working You have to remember to record and have to plan according to your drive. Option 3: Repurposed Phones (Jugad) Advantages You already have it - no cost you can use your current phone as well. Decent quality of video and if the phone is not too old it will do 4k, Slowmo and Timelapse as well You can live broadcast on to social media for your drive. Disadvantage If it is your daily driver you may get some unexpected calls which will stop recording (no issue if it is unused) You need to securely mount it inside the car (same as dashcam) plus it will be more obstructive for the view than dashcam It has batteries and they get hot soon. In summer my iPhone gets hot and stops working if it is mounted on the windscreen. You have to remember to record as well. I have all of the above and I use all of them. My first preference still be Dash Cam for value for money and convenience point of view. They wont be the best but they are there when you need it. The logical way to go is to use your phone first then get a dash cam and finally an action cam. In DashCams I prefer 70mail they are not too expensive and work well and in the newer models they record front and back. In Action Cams - I will recommend the latest GoPro it gets refreshed every year with new features being added. DJI has come up with a new lineup you want to check. Sony - they had good action cams but have seen a refresh in the near past. You might be able to grab a 2nd hand one if you can for all of the above as well.
  14. Diwali a festival of triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil, of hope over despair and of knowledge over ignorance. I wish all my friends and families @Carnity a very happy and prosperous Diwali. May the light of the diyas fill your home with happiness and success.
