👆 Did you get that right? Carry all the ropes you can, bring out the shovels (not spoons), we are going to be the undertakers of what could probably turn out to be an insane drive. Should things go south we might find ourselves stuck in really sticky situations, and we will need all the energies we can muster so please be ready for the same. To reiterate, this drive is primarily an exploration drive, and we may not know what lays ahead, even though it's just Qudra. Our objective would be to come out of it scot-free, make an easy get away from it as an ideal FB drive should be. Important: Request you not be a No-Show and instead rest well and arrive on time. In case you think there are going to be any issues withdraw from the drive as there is a long waiting list. Meanwhile do check the health of your vehicle as it will be quite hot very soon, touching 40 degrees by the time we end the drive. Attending: @Emanuel, @Srilakshman Karthikeyan, @Deepak Eswar, @Juan R, @Mahmoud Taha, @MohamedSherif, @Zulfikhar Naiyar, @Johannes Roux, @Rk ram, @Benjamin Waitlisted: 1st Drive of the week: @Arda Yagcioglu, @Haneef Thayyil 2nd Drive of the week: @Stumpy Paj, @Bjoern, @Bravoecho, @Abhilash Kottakkal,

I find Warn (edit: correction not ARB) gloves better suited for handling winch ropes, but they could be little difficult to use in other cases. I recommend checking out Speedex / ACE for mechanics gloves from brands like Milwaukee, Dewalt etc. I have a pair of these too as well as the types of Fred recommended. I use none. I have them all.

These are the stats from the last two drives I did here. In the first of the drive, we had a situation where we had a stuck car being pulled by another that got stuck which needed to be pulled by one more which got stuck too so we had to use one more behind it. There was a pop out too at the very start even before we entered the dunes. In the second drive at one time, we found three cars inside a small bowl, a little later in the drive we had 2 or 3 simultaneous popouts being fixed at the same time, and a dead car towards the end of the drive, in the dark. Expectation: The sand will be incredibly soft; the dunes are un-even and narrow. It will be a slow and treacherous track, where anything that could go wrong will go wrong. Objective: We will thread carefully among the dunes and try to keep moving by finding an uncomplicated way to navigate. Reality: TBA

Not all, but sometimes it is recommended not to bring very young to certain few drives as the they tend to be fast paced or with a lot of ridge riding and crisscross which could lead to motion sickness kind situations. But it will depend on the location & theme of the drive. But you can always join any drive & not limited to FB+ drives only - you have more options now. Enjoy the new level 👏.

You need to give some time to adjust with the new tires. The driving dynamics change. The typical recommended action whenever you change anything in the car is to start afresh - do a Newbie, and the a fewbie and move up gradually. This will give you and your car time to get accustomed to the change in the car. Remember I mentioned I don’t worry much about the weight of the tires but @Gaurav corrected me that the weight acts on the bhp at the wheels. Well I was coming from about 200 drives under the belt but, for someone who has fewer drives as well as for the car which hasn’t seem as much time in the desert the driver and the computer in the car both need to adjust with the new driving dynamics. Don’t worry about it @Abhilash Kottakkal Give some drives and it will all set into slot..

DRIVE PLAN We will start our drive from Bab Al Shams, enjoy some technical dunes along the way that I am expecting to be super soft as well as very technical. We will also try to find some nice dunes and practice ridge riding and criss crossing. After that, we will enjoy a drive that will take us into Last Exit. Read Carefully: I haven’t driven in this area for a long time, and I’m planning to explore it. I think the sand might be really soft, so I’d like the cars to be lighter, preferably below 2.5 tons in their usual stock setup. It would be great if we could avoid really big vehicles. Also, the sand dunes are going to be narrow, so trucks might not be the best choice for this terrain. Keep your shovels handy. Request every member that joins this drive to go through the information below and strictly follow these guidelines, etiquette, and responsibilities. Drive Report And others just drive near to home, for a shorter duration with less stress on the car and the driver. I mean one doesn't want to be stressed on Sunday, the day before work starts, right? Thats what we did this Sunday morning Fewbie Drive. There was a truncated convoy as a couple dropped off before the drive started. The rest were ready to move by 5:45, which we did. In the first part of the drive, we moved steadily avoiding ever present greenery as much as possible and we had a good 45 mins of slow but nonstop drive. This streak ended when @Cristian had the one and only refusal that turned into a stuck for the drive. We tried to pull him initially, but the angle was not good, so we cleared a bit of sand underneath his vehicle, and I winched him a bit till he was out of the pocket. Then he was able to move out easily. In the second part of the drive, we started again about 7:00 am in the morning and took a break at half past 7:00. Till now we were essentially in the Qudra side of the desert and after the break we entered the Lisali side. The wind had ready picked up and it was a bit difficult to see the dunes sometimes. The first section of Part 3 was full of greenery and in some sections a bit technical too. We drove at slightly lower speed keeping ourselves on top of small dunes and finding sand as much as possible. The sand there was occasionally super soft, and we had to give some gas to keep moving. Then we drove northwest through some Sabkhas towards the long-range dunes of Lisaili but avoided reaching them. Now that we were in Lisaili part proper we picked up speed again. The wide-open dunes of Lisaili were tempting for me to pick up speed but I controlled and did not exceed 30kmph, because my objective for the drive was to drive steady not fast. I really enjoyed this section of the drive. On the dot 3 hour mark we reached Lisaili and finished the drive. I have a penchant for making lists and sorting them to make sense of them. For this drive I sorted by number of drives and found @Johannes Roux in his FJ had the least number of drives and so just went with and was happy that you did very well as second lead, always keeping enough distance so that whenever I was slowing down because of soft sand. It was fantastic having you behind me as second lead. At number three and four were the two jeeps of @Cristian and @Felix Obst and apart from just one refusal/stuck it was a super smooth and non-stop drive. A big thanks to @Vanessa8580 for joining the drive and taking up responsibilities of the sweep.

The following is the convoy order for tomorrow. See you all in the morning. Sleep well. @Johannes Roux you will be the second lead tomorrow, followed by the Jeep gang @Cristian, @Miguel Codes, @Felix Obst, @Ignacio Quindós & @Vanessa8580 will be at the sweep bringing the X Factor to the drive and help any jeeps that get stuck - I hope she won't have much to do 🤞.

@Ignacio Quindós, @Cristian, @Miguel Codes, @Felix Obst, @Johannes Roux & @Vanessa8580 Thank you very much for joining the Sunday morning Fewbie drive. I just wanted to reiterate once again that driving is going to be easy on the car and the driver - well at least that is my attempt going to be. We will be on Channel 3.

Car mode: Jeep Wrangler 2019 - 2 Door Sport kill Switch Button (if yes, where to locate) - Soft Kill Switch with Tazer JL Airbags turn off button (if yes where to locate): NO Other comments: This device get plugged into the SGW connectors. It can be used to make some changes to the car such as Tire Size change, changes to system if you have changed headlights or changed the head unit etc. This can also be left in the car connected that lends a lot of "Live Functions". One of them particularly useful is the "TC Kill" – turn off traction control, stability control and ABS.

@Abhilash Kottakkal I doubt you can go wrong with BFGs. One might say they are heavy. Say even if they are 5 kg heavy compared to your stock tires, at the end for 5 tires it's about 25 kg, which is like half an adult or a child - I don't know about others but I will personally don't bother much about weight. They can be noisy on the road. But I drive Jeep so I am one of the worst person to comment anything on it because the wind noise itself will muffle any road noise when I drive over 80. Having those negatives out of the way; I drove 90k on my previous set of which at least 30% was in desert; and it had another 10-20k on them still. They have thick sidewall and give and I regularly go down to 10 psi when I start a drive and don't bother about deflating again during the drive. They are perfect for sand as well as rocks of our wadis. Of course there are many other good tires but I as I mentioned at the start hardly you can really go wrong with them; perhaps that's why a large number of off-roaders use these tires.

Benefits of tank in an onboard compressor
Looper replied to Alphin Aloor's topic in General Discussions
Imagine it as similar to setting tire pressure on the fuel station air pump. It periodically checks the pressure in the tire and stops when reached. You set the pressure on the control device using your phone which is connected via Bluetooth hence the name Bluetooth module. It’s an additional control module attached to the ARB twin pump. You don’t need TPMS of the car for controlling pressure. To answer the other question, yes for the first part - it automatically shutdown when there is no airflow. Which is the case with the twin pump without air tank as well. However the best practice would be to swich it off. The connection is 99% air tight. That 1% will keep the pump active unnecessarily. -
Benefits of tank in an onboard compressor
Looper replied to Alphin Aloor's topic in General Discussions
There are 3 different items to consider for an ARB. ARB Twin Compressor itself (a base set up) - Having this means that you have graduated as a seasoned off-roader and is a proud display of the same. As @Frederic has already mentioned it is more convenient with regard to all the wiring etc. It is definitely built better than the dragon mart compressor. It also has a 100% duty cycle. Many use a 4-way hose to fill up all four tires simultaneously. While i bought the 4-way hose it now lives in @DP1011's jeep. A Tank - There are two options here. The ARB tank will be more expensive and alternatively you can use Via Air as well. it is approx. AED 1500-2500 additional cost. The benefit of the tank is that it reduces the time it takes to fill tires and puts slightly less pressure on the compressor. Another plus is that you can use air tool with it. I was trying to do it in car, but it's puny trunk doesn't allow it. A Bluetooth Module: I have it. I use it to set up the desired pressure on the phone and it helps to get correct pressure on all 4 tires without me having to monitor or run around to disconnect the air hose from the tire. I will recommend it for its convenience. Will cost about 1000.
