  1. I checked with my mechanic and you are right. This issue is because the clock spring or the spiral cable is faulty. I only put the issue I faced with my Altima as it was also facing same gear issues because the speed sensor inside the transmission went faulty. It had difficulty in coming back to 1st gear sometimes and the car could barely climb up an incline or accelerate from a traffic stop. The OBD scanner was throwing the code for bad speed sensor inside the transmission.
  2. Dear @Kalahari, Sorry for interfering into your thread. 1 doubt - How do you know if the clock spring is broken? Did you check the clock spring? Sometimes the speed sensor inside the transmission can go bad and create this confusion for the TC. I had a similar problem with the Altima. My cruise control stopped working after a transmission overhaul and all the mechanics was advising me to change the clock spring. The transmission also started to behave weird when this happened as it decides to shift gears unnecessarily giving a feeling the car is underpowered. Even when you switch to triptronic driving the gear seemed to have a mind of its own and started to shift as it wished after a few minutes. I was never convinced by the mechanics explanation and finally changed the transmission altogether as opening it and replacing the solenoid was as expensive as fixing a good second hand one. Viola the cruise control started to function seamlessly and guess what - the gear shifting is as per the vehicle's needs. Never replaced the clock spring even though many times I wanted to listening to the mechanics. The bonus point is the gas mileage has retuned back as the car chooses its gears as it wants.
  3. Yes, ABS does affect the transmission. Namely, the vehicle speed sensor is part of the ABS system.

As far as I know and what the mechanic informed me when I installed the kill switch we have to off the ignition key because the ABS kill switch we install is not capable of tolerating the high amperage electric current flowing through it when the kill switch is switched to on position. To switch off the kill switch its not needed to switch off the ignition as electric flow is very less but we do it as practice and to be on the safe side. If we install a very good switch to kill the ABS its not needed to switch off the ignition as most OEM switches do.
  5. Hopefully I will remember this trick in time to get myself unstuck in any of my future drives. Thanks @Frederic & Dr. @Mohamed Seidam. I didn't understand the reasoning behind removing the keys from the ignition and putting it back on when turning the ABS kill switch off. Whenever I finish the drive and switch off the ABS kill switch ABS springs back into action in a few seconds or minutes. Can somebody explain the reasoning behind removing the key and putting it back on?
  6. No need to be embarrassed. You have only started the learning process of desert driving, Experienced drivers and machines get stuck. Every stuck is a new learning. One day you will master the finesse of throttle control which will lessen the stuck situation but will not eliminate it completely. @Carnity doesn't leave you or the machine stranded in the desert until you are recovered and can safely drive back home.
  7. Dear @Jeepie, Sorry couldn't take any picture myself. All my energy was drained out when we started the drive. Had a drive day before with @Chaitanya D & another one the same day morning. The desert heat was too much for me to take and all I wanted to do was drive and remain in the car. Topping up was the pop out of my tire.
  8. Thanks @Kailas, @Jeepie for organizing this wonderful drive. Landscape scenery was astounding even though it was only sand and sand everywhere. I thought the drive would be leisurely in the beginning but it was very fulfilling in terms of scaling the dunes, ridge riding, criss crossing and side slopes. I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. There was no moment when the drive was dull except for some minor mishaps like pop outs which included mine too. Thanks to all your good efforts the pop outs were fixed soon. Thank you @Kailas, @Jeepie, @Anish S & @Veedooshee for the efforts in helping me out to fix the pop out. Will definitely RSVP for your future drives @Kailas as I had all the fun I wished for in the desert. See you all soon again in the sands
  9. Its better to be tiny than be huge like me. The effort to just make you move is much much more when you are big than when you are tiny. You must have noticed how fast I became tired when my car tire popped out whereas you, @Anish S, @Kailas & @Jeepie could simply go on and on. In fact its very difficult to even bend down to deflate the tires when you become huge.
