Hi Carnity, Has anyone traveled the area in Oman that is in northern UAE? It looked like an interesting area to spend a few days exploring the mountains and coastlines, and would love any feedback/recommendations. My aim is offroading/overlanding style, and camping out of my truck. And, if anyone thinks this sounds like fun and want to join, let me know. I'm aiming to go over the next couple weeks. What an amazing introduction to this region of Abu Dhabi, and such fantastic people to drive with 🙂 And that sunset.... WOW!!! Can't wait for the next one! 🚙 I've tried sharing some photos, but about 2/3rds are showing an error. Anyone else having this issue? I see in the gallery some pictures are blanked out... not sure if it's just me, or others having this same problem?

So, I leave the garage in ajman after having my front drive shaft serviced... arrive at the meetup point nearly 3-hours later. It's 2am, and I think... that's a few hours sleep, all good. I pull off the road, air down, and throw my jeep into 4H, thinking to find a sweet spot in the soft sands for my tent away from the road. But instead of a smooth pull away, i hear a loud *clunk clunk clunk* as my drive train begins to spin in its 4H state. Bad sound. Back into 2H.... no clunking. 4H... clunking. I've spent the last 2 hours trying to figure out where the fault is, and I can only assume it's in the transfer case, as everything else spins in 2H as well, minus the engaged transfer case gear, unless the now active torque is engaging the front differential in a funny way. Anyways, my xj needs to get sorted out further.... back to the garage. Apologies, Asif.

I've had to spend the day at a garage in Ajman, however, so I'll be driving down from this area. I missed the carnity bbq fun 🤦‍♂️ @Imran Kashif I'm sorry to read about your friend and I hope everything is okay!

I thought everyone would be sleeping by the time I got there, fortunately not as it was amazing company to spend the evening with! Special thanks to team @AlexM for the wonderful bbq chicken and salad 🙂 I think I discovered what those mini-watermelons are... a plant called Desert Squash (Citrullus colocynthis).

Hi @Kailas I'm experiencing a bit of car trouble, I think it's just a battery, but waiting and seeing. Friday afternoon not an ideal time for car trouble 😂 This trouble threw off my afternoon timings, so not sure what time I'll be able to head out to the meet up point, but I'll keep you posted.

I'm so sorry @Hisham Masaad I won't be able to make it. I went to leave work at noon, very excited about the drive... but my xj wouldn't start. It took me the last hour and a half to finally get it going and limp it home, but I need to go to a garage. Maybe just a battery or alternator, I don't know. Visiting the garage was not how I wanted to spend my afternoon 😭 Apologies again for this very last minute notice.

I have Cooper 4S's on my xj. Only had them maybe 3 months, put about 14k km on them and have been extremely satisfied. That 14k km has included rock crawling, mountain passes, dunes, thick mud ruts, water crossings, highway cruising and daily driving. I rotated them at 8k kms. Road noise is nominal and pretty much hidden behind a motoring 4.0L engine and wind noise. I can't comment on longevity, but they still look brand new and performance has been awesome. Haven't experienced cracking that others are mentioning and I hadn't read anything about it in reviews before I pulled the trigger on them, so maybe exceptional cases? As XJ's are pretty light, I don't mind a slightly thinner side wall than the KO2s, which I had been considering as well; and I like a slightly ligher tire as 90% of my offroading is on dunes. Price was mid-way between BFG and Geolanders.
