is the Xterra steering rack rebuilding a good solution? i did a PPI on a potential buy and it shows steering rack leak and in need of repair any idea if i can fix this for a decent amount?

The car in question i was testing for buying (i think i remember hearing the compressor noise when pushing the button but not 100%) - anyway if i agree with the seller about the price im gonna get it tested to a private garage to eliminate surprises - i was curious if its a common issue or something that can become very expensive to fix. If the REAR Diff lock is blinking what are usually the issues? I was testing the 4wd system on a 3.8 today and 4H, 4HLC and 4LLC engaged ok (from 2H to 4H it did require to move the car couple of meters to stop blinking) - but when i pressed the rear diff lock button the indicator just kept blinking no matter what i tried.

New also to the whole 4x4 and desert riding - this seems to be a great place to find info on UAE specific stuff! I have a background of motorcycle adventure riding and camping in Europe and looking forward to see what UAE and Oman has to offer. Looking into getting my first offroad capable car that should also double as a daily driver(no long distance mileage commute), i'm mainly looking at an older Pajero LWB 3.8 or a Nissan XTerra right now - for the offroad part i'm more inclined in exploring mountain roads and wadis but i never tasted the desert driving (except for some crazy dune riding with a tour company few years ago) so i would like to have that option available. My main focus is on enjoying quiet places and taking photos, i will add some from my camping trips back home.
