Speed radar might soon be installed in the latest Dubai Police drone

A speed radar installed in a drone that flies over Dubai's roads is one of the options Dubai Police is considering to tighten the grip on speedsters in the emirate.

The drone has already been built, and is capable of carrying a speed radar if such measures are to be implemented, explains Maher bin Haidar, of the General Department of Protective Security and Emergency at Dubai Police.

Showing the latest and, according to him, the most advanced drones that the authority has in hand at the ongoing Gitex Technology week, he says, "This drone can capture images from a kilometre distance with its capacity to zoom in 60 times,” he explained.

“It can fly for two hours, and can be controlled at a distance of 2km with a remote control."

  3. Hi,

Interesting topic, but in your climate, I would go for a full synthetic oil every time. However, some synthetic formulations are not miscible with mineral oil (or other types of synthetic oil), so make sure the label says it is micsible with mineral oil.

The problem involves the raw materials the synthetic oil is made from. As a general rule, synthetics that are condensed out of methane and carbon monoxide are safe to use, since they can be mixed with almost any other oil, but some newer formulations don't mix with anything, which means that you will end up with something that looks like Jello, which will destroy your engine.

Synthetic oil has the advantage that all the molecules are exactly the same size, which means that in practice, all the valleys and peaks (known as asperities) in the wear surfaces in your engine hold more oil. Thus, your piston rings have a bigger supply of oil, and since all the molecules are the same size, the entire cylinder wall surface area receives up to twice the amount of lubrication a mineral oil can supply.

In addition, synthetic oil is much more thermally stable than any mineral oil. All this means is the the viscosity of the oil, which is the oil's resisance to flow, is more uniform during the entire temperature range of the engine. I am not too sure about the available brands of oil in the UAE, but any oil that carries both the ASE, and European Auto Makers' Association seal ofapproval will work- provided it states on the label that it can be mixed with other oils.

Thanks Gautam for a very insightful post.

However can you please say all that in English so that normal non technical people  like me  can understand? Since i am not aware which is fully synthetic and which is mineral in 0W, 5W and 10W...Also nowhere in your post i see the mention of the 3 types of oils that i am asking people to vote for.

Can you please emphasize on these 3 types only and explain accordingly.. Thanks.

  4. Al Ruwais is a town located some 240 kilometers west of Abu Dhabi city in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi Emirate And almost 350kms from Dubai.

Its a very long drive to Ruwais. After a few 100 km's from auh the roads narrow down to 2 lane and the road speed reduces to 80km/h. There are lots of radars on the way and all of them are  working so be careful with your speed limits. The best way to spot the radars is to look out for large solar panels on the road as all the Radars are solar powered, almost all.

The drive itself isn't scenic in spite of being a coastal road. But once you reach your destination itll be worth it. This  off-road trip is meant only for people who like to run away from city and like to camp in the middle of nowhere. All the mentioned camping spots are completely isolated with no  human contact for miles.  The beaches are beautiful ,but don't have any waves maybe i was there during the wrong season. The temp was low at the beach where we camped in Sila. So if planning for a winter drive make sure to carry warm clothes.

Shuwayhat Island is a scenic place for photography. Camping is not recommended on this island as it is visited by loc als and they usually don't welcome outsiders. Plus there's a military base nearby hence camping is really not advisable. Also people wanting to do night photography will have too much light pollution in this area. Its a good drive to go and explore the island and take some pics.

Sila beach is long stretch of coastal road where you can camp anywhere and everywhere. The shore is quite far during low tide almost a kilometer away from the road. Onc can walk inside all the way if they want. People interested in bird photography will find lots of bird species in these mangroves. There's also a spot where you can spot 100's of flamingos.

It was long and stressful drive if you don't have cruise control, but overall it was fun to get away from the city and sleep beneath the stars. Hope you guys enjoy it.

  5. Within hours of the announcement, for example, Nissan Middle East sent a tweet which read: "#Petrol prices are set to rise in the #UAE? No problem! Drive the all new #Hybrid #Pathfinder."But despite being cheaper to run over time, many electric and hybrid cars come with a higher price tag than their fully combustion-engine counterparts. Some small versions currently available in the UAE have a starting price of Dh76,000.

Are you guys seriosuly thinking for alternate options? Any first hand experience here with Electric or Hybrid vehicles?

Electric cars are a great option for many people in countries around the world not just because they are better for the environment, but because they can save their owners a fair amount of money. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, earlier this year electric cars on average cost $3.74 to travel 100 miles, as opposed to $13.36 for conventional cars. Those savings are quite considerable in the long-run but only if the user has easy and regular access to charge points, otherwise they won’t get many miles for their dollar at all. They’ll get zero, because the car would run out of battery charge halfway along the Abu Dhabi Highway and leave its owner stranded.

  6. Hope you know you need a CID permission for a color change and then add the same color in your car registration card at tasjeel branch for 40 AED while renewing your car next time.

Thanks Danny for the info, I wish there's a complete list of to do's and a exact process for that.

  7.

Thanks Sidhan, both those link are taking me to services in Dubai which are very expensive. Btw carnity business listings is a very good place to source out such services.. Hope they have other Emirates too  there.. Like Ajman Fujairah etc

Looking for someone who already has get their cars foiled from these emirates..
