Being an early morning person I am hoping there are more like-minded people to join me on this morning drive. I am planning on a relaxing morning drive from Tawi Nizwa shops to Pink Rocks and if time permits to finish it off at the Big Red. Plan to play all along the way, so we can enjoy for a couple of hours before the heat kicks in. This will also be an opportunity for those who have not been in this area to explore a newbie level terrain where you can explore and learn the techniques of off-roading. When: 22 Feb 2019 Meeting time: 07:00 AM, the convoy will move sharply at 07:15 AM Where: Tawi Nizwa shops GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/KKBUhkQ2y382 Level of drive: Newbie but all levels are welcome to join Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance What to bring along: Breakfast snacks - whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles and courage. What's the best 4x4 vehicle for Dubai sand dunes for dune bashing? Of course I don't mean million dollar Mercedes 6x6 league, but more within a reasonable budget that I can use regularly every week without the fear of breaking bumpers and electric failures. I prefer within 50k AED budget and I am open for old or very old vehicles as far as they are capable and reliable without too much or too expensive maintenance. I am currently running a high gear ratio (lower numerical) of 3.07 and have found no major issues while desert driving. However, since I had increased my tire size from 29" to a 31", and since I am looking in the near future at a possible differential replacement, I wanted your suggestions on whether it would be advisable to go for a lower gear ratio (higher numerical) like 3.54, 3.73 or even 4.10. What I have understood from reading online is that when you mention a 3.07 gear ratio, the drive shaft would rotate 3.07 times for one rotation of the wheel. So that means that while driving on the highway you would get better mileage as the drive shaft is rotating less as compared to a 3.54 gear ratio. In the US, all the forums suggest going for a lower gear ratio (higher numerical) like 3.73 or 4.10 as a minimum, but then their offroading activity is more into rock crawling where you would need the car engine to be in right bandwidth of approx 3000 rpm so that you have maximum torque but with low speed to climb the obstacle. How would the gear ratios matter while doing desert driving where momentum is the main thing. By lowering the gear ratio to 3.54 or 3.73 I presume my speed would on the 1st gear would reduce which would reduce the performance. So bottom line for desert driving is whether a high gear ratio (lower numerical) better than a low gear ratio (higher numerical) ?

With the past couple of drives being in the Mahafiz area, lets just change the location and up the level of the drive by having an early morning drive in Area 53. What better way to start the 2018 season, by having a full day drive at Al Wagan on 12th Jan 2018. It will be the first drive to Al Wagan for Carnity Group and hopefully the first of many more. The plan is to meet up on Thursday evening at Al Wagan around 10 pm and camp there for the night. We shall start our drive early morning on Jan 12th. The drive will be split in two sections, with the first being one stretch of dunes. We shall return via the sabkha area back to Al Wagan town for the Friday prayers and also to finish our lunch. We would then return to the desert via the sabkha area and head towards more deeper wagan, as per time permits. This is an Intermediate level drive, so no newbies and fewbies are advised to join. This requires the best of the driver and cars so please sign up only if you are 100% confident. This drive requires a lot of dedication, discipline, and commitment to continue driving in rigorous off-road terrain and keep the convoy moving at all the times. It is very important to reiterate to everyone to ensure that your car is in the best of condition with all necessary fluid checks done, air filter check is done, 5 good working condition tires, etc. Further, due to the nature of the area, I do recommend that to carry only the essentials that are needed for the drive to reduce the weight in your car. Time and Date: 7 PM, 11 Jan 2018 Meeting point: https://goo.gl/maps/JdSnTEv3jN72 - Emarat Petrol Station at Al Ain Road Deflation and Wagan Entry Point: https://goo.gl/maps/g9uegbtfkAJ2 (23°35'32.0"N 55°24'24.8"E) ADNOC Fuel station near entry point + Mosque: https://goo.gl/maps/S9u6EQusFgC2 Breakfast: 7 AM, 12 Jan 2018 and pack cars and start off-road drive by 8 AM Optional: Members who don't want to do overnight camp, can join at above deflation point by 8 AM. Friday Prayer and lunch Break : 12 PM – 1 PM at Al Wagan town Ending point: https://goo.gl/maps/3HhxuWTF6yt (hopefully by sunset) - Next fuel station at 70 - 80 km range. After an off-road trip I felt my Prado pulling slightly to the right. Of course I did hit by front bumper in the dunes so it appears to be one of the reasons. On approaching an ADNOC based tire repair outlet I was told without even checking teh alignment that it is better to take it to the "company" as they only do the electronic alignment for one axis. Any adivice on the matter and does anyone know of a good garage ( not the agency please) in Sharjah or Ajman area?

@desertdude @Rahimdad @Gaurav Hello again, I browsed around google with no success. The question! what happens on switching to off road gear on road? Let's take the lc100 series as an example, there are 3 off road gears, one for standard road driving, one low and one high. I know the low one shouldn't be used on road because it provides low gear ratio and excessive fuel consumption. What happens on high compared to standard road driving. What if someone started using the high gear for everyday road driving? If you want me to be more specific let me know! Thanks!!

I was browsing the YouTube for off-road videos and came across the following. It occurred to me that the driver is doing something WRONG. So why not use the carnity.com experts to comment on what was wrong in the approach, skill or the vehicle that made it " DOING IT WRONG". I am hoping this thread to be not just limited to this video but as an opportunity we can share at least a video a week to have feedback and experience learning from Carnity stars. Let's see.

With every carnity drive setting newbie level higher and higher, so this week demands bit more challenging and thrilling terrain of Murqquab to Lisalli. It's a combination of various set of dunes from small - med - large, where smaller takes the name of nasty technical dunes and big dunes demand good momentum to continue riding until you are through to a flat area. This time I plan to introduce ridge riding, slip face attack and side sloping. These all three are expert level skills, but we will start learning these in the intermediate terrain to give time to absorb and react. This area is very famous for Gazelle sighting so riding with your best long range camera is highly advisable. When: 17 March 2017 Meeting time: 12:30 PM Starting time: 01:00 PM (SHARP) soon after Friday prayer Where: Mosque inside the Marqquab area. GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/n3iAGB7m2KJ2 Level of drive: Intermediate Type of drive: Although it's not a typical family drive, but feel free to bring them if they like more of drive time Plan: Lunch and Learn advance sand off-road driving What to bring along: Ready lunch (no bbq), water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn Approximate finish time: 6 PM Safety advice: All vehicles should have proper tow hook in front and back Drive is open only for proper 4x4 vehicles, not for SUV's and Sedan's Vehicle should have minimum 10-12 inches of ground clearance Every vehicle should have proper shovel, tow rope, tire pressure gauge, deflator, inflator and two way radio

Hi Fellas, wondering if anyone has basic tips for newbie for doing some small time adventure in sand dunes.... I have drove sometimes on beach and did farely well, so think of heading some dune driving at basic level no dune bashing yet.
