Prelude: When i bought my car back in October 2020 a combination of trust in professionals and a lack of knowledge and time led me to sign a third party service contract for my car along with (at least internally) committing to going to said garage for all my repairs and the such. Over the past couple months i've been quite disappointed with my experiences as prices were very high and as time went on kept feeling like i couldnt trust the work being done or if the work i was asking for was being done at all. This has culminated in a recent visit to my garage of choice where i presented them with a list of symptoms and observations after which i received a bill that was about half the rice i bought my car for. I will use one of the items on the list as an example: Car details i presented: CEL (check engine light) is on, the TJ has a dashboard diagnostic feature, it is basic but very useful so the code that was displayed after i input the konami code was P0431 (Catalytic Converter efficiency below expected threshold) Car passed registration in October with near perfect emissions Noticed wires dangling from the engine bay that werent there before OBDII diagnostics port broken by previous owner Garage assessment: OBDII port repair : AED1500 (they wish to plug a diagnostic tool in to figure the issue based on the O2 readings in the PCM) Replace Catalytic converter: AED1100 I then took that car back and did what i normally do, cleaned it up properly and took a look myself when i had some time, albeit this was probably a week later. My observations: O2 sensor in Bank 1 Sensor 2 had it's wires ripped clean off (my assumption is that we went over bush or something and it got caught as the connector unfortunately has a poor mounting location under the chassis. I then tracked the wires that had been tangling and they went into the connector for said sensor. A simple visual inspection in my garage with the light in my phone has given me the answer to which the solution is 10 minutes of my time (if you dont count the time it takes to ship the part from the US) and AED160. I've attached relevant files like the Locations of the cats and sensors and the old sensor. Epilogue: With all this in mind, im willing to accept that i perhaps got unlucky on many fronts. Im a low value customer because i do a lot of my own work on the car, i aslo dont have much money to spend on frivolous addons and such, and i could just have drawn the short straw and gotten the laziest of their otherwise good mechanics. This all though leads me to this, would there be any space in carnity for a DIY car maintenance section or even a day teaching each other how to diagnose issues and fix them? How often do you check your car yourself? How often do you lubricate joints and metal bits that are likely to rub? How often do you check your Oil, Coolant and Steering fluid? Are you willing do something as simple as screwing in an AED160 piece in your car yourself to save AED2600?

So i've done most of the well-known maintenance stuff: timing belt, water pump, radiator, oils, brake pads, etc. However since the car has 200,000 miles, I was worried about transmission and gears. Especially since I used to have a Pajero (also second-hand) and for some reason I couldn't shift to D and had to use 2 to complete my drive and exit some years ago. So I search for Specialized Transmission Garages, and there were only 4 of them on Google Maps for Abu Dhabi. Drove the car to the one with good reviews and ask to check a) 4WD works in all gear levels, including diff-lock combination and b) Inspect Drive Shaft. Results? See 2 pics below, these are from the front right & left axles. Suffice to say I'm glad I did a transmission check before Friday's drive in Khatim 😁

Hi all, I feel like my old 2002 LC100 that has stocked up 200,000 miles (320,000 kms) is not accelerating as much as I want to and seems to have "not enough power" when going uphill. I know cos I've floored my gas pedal to the bottom, but the V8 just isn't fast in responding. I've been reading quite a bit on this issue on iH8Mud and this page from an Auto Service . I've also asked in Land Cruiser forums in FB, and basically has a list of parts to replace, obviously won't do them in one-shot (don't have infinite money yet 😁), so I've ranked them according to my sense of urgency below: Replace Fuel Pump. Based on iH8Mudder that said "Immediately mine ran better and with the age of my engine it made sense" Replace Fuel Filter. Cos might as well since I'm replacing the Pump... The engine needs good supply of gasoline in order to produce that power. Clean Throttle Body, cos cleaning should not be expensive. Check Exhaust issue: here I'm not sure what to check. Can anyone shed some light if they previously found exhaust issues to be the cause of engine power loss? Problem is the Catalytic Converter costs US$ 2,000 on Parts.Toyota.Com ! Replace Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor and Oxygen Sensor , since Combustion Engine works by mixing Fuel & Air, so need the right amount of air to properly mix and produce power. Replace Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), this controls the Throttle Body so need to ensure properly giving correct readings. I'm doing #1-3 now, so the question is: for those who have replaced Fuel Pump & Fuel Filter & Clean Body Throttle, did you guys notice a difference after doing them? Here are 2 videos of my mechanic replacing the Fuel Pump & Filter: Fuel Pump Replaced.mp4 Old_Fuel_Filter_Dirty.mp4

Hi all, Quick question on the service of the Merc S class (2009) model at 90K interval. Anyone know of any trustworthy, reliable and of course affordable workshop in AbuDhabi that do German cars? Thank you
