2010 Ford Expedition review

Recommended Posts

The Expedition is Ford’s full-size SUV, which battles with the rivals such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, Toyota Land Cruiser and Nissan Armada.

The third generation Expedition was launched in the region in late 2006 and continues with substantial tweaks for the 2010 model year.

The SUV’s old school design has begun to look dated but the Expedition still holds its own in terms of street presence and performance. The truck based Expedition is available in two trims; XLT and Eddie Bauer (named after a US clothing company) and both can be had in either the normal or a long-wheelbase EL version, which adds about 15 inches to the standard SUVs length.

The Expedition can seat up to seven adults and pack in a lot of luggage even with all seats occupied, especially in the long wheel base version.

Customers don’t have much choice when it comes to engine options though and the big SUV comes with a sole 310bhp, 5.4-litre flex-fuel V8 engine. This motor is matched to a six-speed automatic transmission that drives either the rear wheels or all four wheels depending on the model. Being Ford’s flagship SUV the Expedition is loaded with features.

Available features include leather seats, alloy wheels, Ford’s SYNC voice-activated hands-free communications and entertainment system, a rear view camera, DVD based navigation with a 6.5-inch colour touch screen and voice control, headrest mounted dual DVD screens, a second row console cooler and a keypad entry system.

Standard safety features include dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, ABS with EBD and roll stability control. Also available is Ford’s programmable MyKey system, which allows the owner to limit how fast the SUV is driven by others such as children or chauffeurs.
