State of Dashcams in 2024/2025

What is the latest and greatest in dash cams these days?

I'm tired of the insane drivers around me and want to record everything from front and back.
No so worried about recording when parked, as I have a wall on one side, and other family member park on the other.

The garmin series of dashcams is small and nice but requires a subscription for pushing data to the cloud etc..

the WOLFBOX series of mirror replacements seems like a cool idea. but kinda skeptical of how the mirror would hold on using rubber straps while offroading.

What have you been using in 2024, and what do you like or hate about it?
Hardwired? or usb/cigarette lighter powered?

Number one point to remember is that Sony makes all the camera CCDs used in almost all of them DashCams. So often times there’s hardly any difference between the run of the mill Chinese made dash cams. Most of them are made in just a few factories. 

Of course there are differences based on the cost, e.g. high-end dash-cams will have newer most sophisticated CCD and better connectivity and app features. My go to recommendation was 70 Mai for the same reason but one of them burnt on me when I was hot swapping the memory card while it was in operation. I had done it many times in a past model but the new one just died. 

I have seen good reviews of VIOFO. Suggest you view some YouTube reviews before you take a plunge.

70 mai A800 (I think) has been great for me. Simple. Used it for about 3 years. Has a front and rear cam

It's currently USB charged, so no parking recording. Video is crystal clear and great in the dark.

When that dies at some point I really want to look into the T'EYES CC3 360. I wasn't aware you could get after market 360 cams and the main screens they sell (CC3) are pretty powerful compared to 99% of the underpowered Android devices around.

I've been using https://fitcamx.com/, which is integrated into an OEM part for replacement. The concept is impressive, as the dashcam is discreetly positioned behind the central mirror; however, the app and technology stack leaves much to be desired. It's primarily focused on security, utilizing a DVD Blu-ray format to protect data in case of an accident or power loss. Unfortunately, having one-minute looping videos at 300MB each is impractical for sharing and handling.

I obtained new firmware from the developer that stores videos in MP4 format, significantly improving usability, but they have no plans to enhance the app with additional features.
