JeepDxb
when the car started overheating the mechanic kept insisting that the thermostat has gone bad which he changed . but it continues to overheat and on the 2nd trip he is betting his life that its the radiator. now before i get this job done can i first please have the list of possibilities of overheating please i am not interested in wasting anymore time for this. thank you
JeepDxb
If mean overheating in desert, that's an absolutely different case and there is no solution for that problem. Probably change to aluminium radiator that too with slightly bigger core MIGHT help reducing cherokee temp in desert. My very close friend had that and i know this very nicely. If its overheating on road, then first doubt goes to thermostat only (if both engine and AC fan is fine, which i assume your mechanic must have checked first visually). That means you have good, intelligent and trust worthy mechanic. Its a good plus here. Second doubt goes to radiator as your mechanic suggested. Third and last doubt goes to water pump. Thermostat being cheapest fix and then radiator is moderate expense and then water pump is most expensive of all (dont know the pricing here). Worst part is no one can guarantee anything and you left with hit and trial only. So be friend with mechanic
