  1. I changed my 29 inch HT tyre to a 31inch AT tyre and I can definitely notice the heaviness in terms of acceleration and also while climbing a dune. The weight of each tyre had increased by about 3-4 kg. I have to offset it by reducing the tyre pressure further than I used to earlier. But I read somewhere that higher tyre weight or unsprung weight is good for offroading. Not sure though on how it helps in the desert especially over cross tracks or in terms of stability.

  2. I remember I switched to steel from alloys on my XJ. The difference was big. The car felt heavy, loss of power and poorer acceleration. Will never switch to steel wheels again. And plus all the added strain on all the driveline components probably cause more wear and tear on them. Specially if being off roaded hard. Not worth the one bent rim you might get down the line. Which can be repaired easily and cheaply nowadays

  4. Came across this. I have mixed feelings on this. I mean, if one wants to build an offroad toy I am pretty sure one wouldn't even consider a subcompact car. But props to him as it looks badass in a kind of weird and novel way. How do you think this will fare in the desert?

  8. All good, but I really don't think this thing would make it through the UAE desert. But than I've seen the Rav4 being pushed to its limits and back. If the owner is happy with his ride and it dies for him the things he wants to do than its good for him. However nodding it here like that will be expensive.

  9. In the Hummer incident,The Cruiser was front-heavy , soft shackle would have been less dangerous but an alternate angle should have been considered in my view. I was conveyed by the grapevine that in this case the shackle hit the steering wheel and then the chin of the Hummer driver but can't confirm this as a fact, he survived. I have witnessed similar failure due to use of an eyelet instead of a properly rated tow hook resulting in the metal shackle ripping the eyelet like it was made of butter, then damaging the AC radiator and grill of the RAM being pulled .The RAM was being pulled by a Wrangler that was also a wrong vehicle due to the weight difference.

  14. Started of as a hobby and turned semi professional at it. Music production and sound engineering. Realistic Flight Simulator. Current weapon of choice. Flight Simulator X steam edition and favourite bird to fly the PMDG Boeing 777. Semi professional at video editing also but ever since I started getting paid work for it I stopped enjoying it so I stopped. Mostly because clients want a Hollywood blockbuster at late night cable infomercial budget. Wrenching on my and buddies ride is obvious of course. I would love to learn electronics as in where I can design my own PCB or maybe even start off with simple troubleshooting, diagnostics and repairs on things like lcd tvs, mobile phones and motherboards etc etc. Also really really really interested in astronomy nowadays ever since seeing the Hubble deep space image and first images of a black hole. Still looking for that right type of telescope at the right price to come along
