  1. Made an updated overview to show the differences in the various apps. It is also an option to pick two different apps for different functionalities. Nowadays i use the Caltopo website for my route-planning and archiving, and Gurumaps on my mobile in the vehicle. As these don't sync with each other instantly, this means i need to do this manually. Additionally i still use the Garmin 276cx with Birdview imagery downloaded which gives me the least hassle of all. The only downside is that you need to download the imagery beforehand via Garmin Basecamp. If i do an unplanned recce in new terrain, then this is an issue of course. In that case i use Gurumaps, either online imagery or the offline downloaded map.

  6. Whenever buying a second-hand vehicle, it is essential to do some research on the history of that particular vehicle to see if it was involved in accidents in the past. There are a few options: 1. International - VIN Report VIN Check and get Vehicle History Report | Free VIN Search (faxvin.com) There are several available websites for this. You will be able to see if the vehicle has been involved in accidents. This is definitely useful if the vehicle has been imported from another country like US. 2. UAE - Ministry of Interior Accidents Inquiry Ministry of Interior MOI - Accidents Inquiry This portal service shows the accident history stored in the Federal UAE database. For each accident it will show you photos and information about the severity. 3. UAE-Dubai RTA Vehicle Status Report RTA - Services Will provide you a detailed report with the odometer reading, previous inspection history, or accidents. Using these services will give you a good background on the second-hand vehicle you are about to buy, and if the car has been involved in serious accidents.

  7. the technical vehicle certificate is no longer available from the context of a non-owner. You can only pull it when you sign in into RTA and the car is under your name... they changed that some time ago. If you cant figure the owner or the car is owned by a dealer who isn't cooperating, you won't be able to get this data until the car is transferred to you. Which kinda defeats the purpose of this service even being there...

  9. ON X is indeed quite popular in this US, and i was assuming it was meant for US only. (see below). OnX Backcountry vs. Gaia GPS: A Head-to-Head Comparison - Territory Supply Will give it a try and add a review soon. Or if you decide to test it feel free to give your feedback ! The TREAD app looks indeed promising, but will only work in conjunction with a Garmin Tread Device, correct ?

  10. @Aser bronco and arb in the marketing.. how could it not be great! After i got a garmin navigation unit i've started using TREAD app (APP is standalone or can be used as companion for nav unit) for tracking waypoints and routes etc. items can belong to multiple collections... so for exmaple i have my collection of 'bbq spots' and can choose one and temporarily add it to a new collection 'bbq for this saturday' along with the route etc. ability to make colections visible on map or not... route planning can follow trails or point to point. seems much faster than gaia and the offline satellite maps are very high res.
