Off-Road Fewbie Drive to Pink Rock: Mind the Gap A huge thank you to @DP1011 for an incredible drive and route, and to @Shiju Raju for sweeping. Kudos to everyone for driving exceptionally well, especially through the soft patches! Our off-road adventure began at one of our usual starting points in Tawi Nazwa for Pink Rock and Big Red drives, taking us through the mesmerizing dunes to Pink Rock. The reddish sand and challenging dunes set the stage for an exhilarating ride. From there, we headed towards the iconic Big Red, where the real fun began. On top of Big Red, we enjoyed playing around and tackling some big climbs. There were a few refusals, but most were resolved with good self-recoveries and second attempts. We even lent a hand to some dune buggy off-roaders who got stuck, using our shovels to dig them out. At the very end of the drive, we had one vehicle stuck. Despite deflating to 8 psi, it didn't budge, and @DP1011 had to give him a tug. The drive was filled with ridge riding, side sloping, and plenty of crisscrossing at a fast pace. A theme for the drive soon emerged: Mind the Gap. Some drivers had difficulty maintaining a good gap between cars. Here are some tips for keeping a safe distance: Look Ahead: Keep an eye on the distance between your car and the one in front, especially if the driver is more experienced. Watch for Difficult Areas: When you see cars ahead on challenging spots like ridges, ensure they are clear or mostly clear before proceeding. Develop Instincts: Maintaining a good distance is a combination of art and science. You'll develop instincts for keeping the right gap on flat patches, tight technical dunes, hill climbs, and ridges. Remember, maintaining a good gap ensures safety and smooth progress for everyone. Happy off-roading! 🚙

First, I want to thank the entire convoy for waiting for me. I know that even a five-minute delay can be critical when starting the drive. @Looper drive was fantastic—amazing and i was more focused on the entire journey. I've seen similar ridge crossings and rides climbing on Reels, and honestly, I didn't expect I’d be able to do it. When I saw the track, I really regretted not having my 360 camera to capture the drive. Anyway, the drive itself was incredible. complete convoy drove well. @Brett Eicher I hope your beast (car) is getting fixed and back to its prime. For the first time, I actually opened my bonnet during a break to check everything is their inside. I saw @Rob S jumping over some of the ridges, and I chose to reroute myself to avoid going too high on the ridge with the bump. But overall, it was an extraordinary and amazing drive. after long time driving with @Mehmet Volga, see you all soon.

Thank you everyone for joining the drive this morning. A beautiful clear day, and still a nice temperature. The small group configuration was perfect to explore the nice dunes of Nahel. Passing the lake, we started a warm up moving up and down in the open dunes, doing a few crossings, testing the grip and the effect of gravity passing over a few pockets or steep descents. The soft sand was adding to the difficulty, as another variable to adjust our driving. Then we reached bigger dunes, an opportunity to push the engines, ... and raising the heart beat ! We could realise the necessity to keep a smooth line when reaching higher speed, and to control the descent always. After the break, the area was more technical, requiring to dose just the necessary amount of power to keep moving. Reaching the sabkha, we still had a bit of time, and I extended to a nice area with smooth rolling dunes, variable sand color, a very relaxing way to end the drive. Very well done @Ana and @Myrko you gained progressively assurance all along the drive. Well done also @Lukas Lewis with the big truck in the technical portions. Thank you @topgear for the 2nd lead, rerouting my lines when needed, @Jeandre Bezuidenhout for sweeping our group, and big thank you @Luke K P for the support and reassuring guidances for the few refusals. So in the usual way of offroading being a cover story for acquiring shiny toys...I found enough excuses to buy the recently released ARB brushless compressor. I've been meaning for some time now to replace the wiring that runs power back to my onboard compressor at the rear of the vehicle, and decided to upgrade the compressor at the same time. Background The ARB twin compressor has been around for many years and is a well known, reliable and high performing compressor. I've had one fitted to my current and previous vehicle, and generally it works very well. I've had some sporadic issues with popping fuses, which I think could be a mixture of current in-rush and underspecified wiring. ARB's latest iteration of these compressors replaces the brushed motors with brushless motors - and promises higher compressor performance with like-for-like power consumption. The move to brushless motors also offers other benefits, like the ability for the control circuits inside the compressor to more easily throttle the compressor (to avoid excess heat or voltage drop) and stagger the start-up of the motors to mitigate current in-rush. Installation I have the compressor installed in the cargo compartment storage area (under the cargo floor lid). The first step was to replace the wiring from the battery to the rear of the car. I replaced the wiring with 4AWG (6AWG would be sufficient but this gives some room for drawing more power in the future if I want it), and ran it from the battery, down the inside-rear of the wheel arch, along the top of the frame, over the rear suspension, and then through a rubber grommet into the bottom of the cargo tray. The new unit is a similar form factor to the previous one, but it is not 100% like-for-like swap. There are changes to the mounting solution (it sits on a base plate with a quick release clamp - and the bolt pattern is different), and to the wiring/switch connections (small changes to the setup of the grounds, and the wiring loom simplifies down into two plugs only - one for each compressor pump). The width and height of the unit is I think the same, but it has slightly more depth. You will note from the wiring diagram that the fuses are now 60A per side. The compressor is specified to run at 45A per motor (90A total) steady-state, but the additional 15A being for current in-rush. I would suggest that if running a long wiring run, as I am, the wiring is sized to the 60A per side requirement. First Impressions The installation was easy - the instructions are super clear, the included wiring harness, switch etc makes it all very easy. The hardest part was the cable routing! The unit is designed to use car chassis grounds, so you only need to run positive wires and then pickup on good chassis grounds local to the unit. It's loud! It's noticeably louder than the unit I replaced. You wouldn't want to sit in the car while it runs continuously. The clincher - performance! I did a back to back test of the old unit to the new. Taking my 35" KN02's from 7.5 PSI to 35PSI using a four-hose setup - ARB Twin Compressor (old): 609 seconds, ARB Brushless Twin Compressor (new): 407 seconds. This supports ARB's claim of 50% higher throughput (in volume). Conclusion Another high quality product from ARB - again a very nice design, good quality of wiring harnesses and physical installation, and top-end performance. Is it worth the higher price point however...? If you already have the regular ARB twin, then I don't think it's worth a change at the moment. If you are installing onboard air for the first time and you're looking for a premium solution - then I can recommend this. As always however...none of this is essential if you're just starting out...something cheap and effective from the usual outlets in Dubai will work just fine too!

Oh what a drive! Thanks @DP1011 it was absolute pleasure. Beautiful terrain and diversified mix of small dunes for crisscrossing, medium fast paced dunes and large climbs! Loved it! however this mix put additional requirement for distance feeling skills, so this was a truly "mind the gap" drive! Thanks again, this was something amazing to mark my 50th drive with Carnity! Thank you all!
