  1. Check your battery if its low, then change it as weak battery show lot of weird issues in modern cars as whole car is controlled electronically these days. I am assuming here: If gear oil in cherokee is electronic oil then it doesnt get enough battery juice to function properly and when this get reported to car ECU it locks the shifter to prevent any further damage (fail-safe mode).

Quick google with your code OBD P0931 result in " Gear shift lock solenoid -circuit high". Causes: "Wiring, short to positive, gear shift lock solenoid, ECM/PCM/TCM "

  2. Impact counted against a brickwall will always be as serious as this instead of moving car, that also absorb bit of energy and disperse the impact sideways. This seems little too tough on giving these ratings, but got to respect IIHS ratings anyways.

whatever said and done, too bad for all three US big boyz manufacturer to not to secure the driver in sports car!

  3. I called today morning RTA to check if there is any grace notice for initial week or few days in case if I wrongly park and get some notice / warning instead of fine?

Answer was "NO", if you park in wrong area not matching your card: straight away fine. So be more careful guys.

  4. This is nothing new buddy, Dubai police doing these surprise mobile camera all the time to teach lesson to speedy driver. Only new is that they using this huge trash can look-like backflasher than their white xtrail based mobile camera or their small three legged front flasher camera.

  5. I am driving American and Japanese cars since long long time and never experience any great disastrous experience as many of my colleague driving German cars explain:

    • Minor service cost 2500 - 4000 AED
    • Air suspension cost 12000 AED
    • Headlight cost 4500 AED
    • Gear change cost 40000 AED
    • Engine overhaul cost 15000 AED

Listening to these horror stories, I never opted for German cars in-spite of being best in Industry but unfortunately I am not in that 1% of world population to afford such car expenses with huge family behind my salary.

  6. Plenty of places to buy: Ace Hardware, Icon auto, Ramy Trading, Adventure HQ in Dubai and Alico, Tazweed and Golden sun in Sharjah.

Most important is why your tow rope broke? If it's too old and sustained over 15-20 pulls then it's acceptable. If it's new and broke that means you have got under rated capacity tow rope. Always buy that rate above 5000 lb at least, higher the better as they wont ditch you when you need them the most. Secondly also buy the rated shackle of same weight capacity to carry out recovery process smoothly. Good luck and drive safe.

  7. I have tried the car detailing twice in the past and was not quite satisfied with cheap and sticky chemical they use for interior cleaning that start smelling WEIRD in one day sunlight and whole dashboard and handle become slightly sticky.

I want to do it myself this time, and I was researching some internal car cleaning products, but choices are enormous online from 100's of brand. All saying we are the best....!

Appreciate if any one of you tried and tested good product to give long lasting clean look (shine/matt) but with no sticky and no smelly feel. Thanks.

  8. Interesting thread and thought to make cars over intelligent, but do guys know that every time car overheat then car AC gets cut off automatically and that should make the intelligent driver look around the dash gauge to save the engine.

I agree with @ayman_khateeb to have a loud buzzer in case the driver is so dumb and ignorant or driving without AC, then this loud audible buzzer can alert him.

  9. Hi Derik, you were in wrong area as those people usually have american specs scarp and plus majorly are exporters.

Japanese cars scrap retailers are in industrial area 6 in Sharjah, right behind the macro emirates, drive down 300 meters in the back lane and after the used PC, TV, and music system shops you will have dozens of scrap retailers, that will happy to fish out small small parts that you like. Of course you still got to scout a little on foot to search the Mitsubishi one's but I am sure you will find there.

    Exact location: 25°18'52.7"N 55°24'57.2"E

  10. 20 hours ago, Navins said:

Fj is one of the ugliest cars around no doubt and good for nothing rear doors which is a nuisance in tight parkings when the rear passenger wants to get out. Modification options are immense and has a better weight distribution while xterra has a light rear coupled with leaf springs gets thrown around. Its sad that Nissan has stopped this fine car.

XTerra has leaf springs, I never knew that....! And is Nissan is stopping Xterra....?

  11. You must be a UAE resident to initiate the import process and vehicle has to be left hand steering and not right hand drive. You can submit the request with your passport copy with visa page and proff of sale in your country on your name. I am not sure about the custom fees or duty taxes if it implies, you can check with dubai customs on same.

  12. Nissan is not all good in Dubai, and some bad as well that you need to know before you buy. Just like every super successful brand it comes with little taken for granted attitude and slow in service from the nissan dealers in dubai. I had a nissan and just sold it as every service is a tedious task of loooong waiting to just give the car and come home. On the other hand toyota service center in dubai is like a breeze, where you can actually get the minor oil and filter service in 30-45 mins while you sip free coffee and read newspaper in their first floor lounge and keep an eye on your car from top. Total A+ service standard from Toyota in dubai. Nissan still has to catch up to that standard, as selling car only is not enough.

Slight correction on Taqir estimate that Nissan and Mitsubishi parts are most expensive and Toyota and mazda are the cheapest and honda is in between.

Overall Nissan is a good brand to drive in heat or cold here with extreme reliability and durability of Japanese brand off course. Go for it man.
