Buying a car from auctions in UAE: good or bad idea?
desertdude replied to Emmanuel's topic in General Discussions
That's the who point of an auction its a little bit of a gamble and people who know their cars well can get a deal where one guy might think a cars a gone case and not worth it the other knows it wont take much to bring it back and gets a deal. Otherwise it wouldn't be called an auction but rather a used car sales lot -
I saw this way bay back when I used to actually buy a hardcopy of Popular Mechanics magazine. Developed by DARPA for the military I think. Michelin just put sidewalls on it to look like a regular tyre.

Yes its basically the same car as the Teluride

Triton is the American name for the L200 pickup just as the Pajero is called the Montero or Shogun. I love both the Hilux and L200. Very fun cars to drive off road. Very light but you have to be careful of axel hop with an empty bed. One of my buddies still has a 1996 double cabin Will h close to 300k kms on it. Unfortunately not 4wd but still fun on the road. But stick a SUV body on them, meh then not so much.

First of all I don't want to spend no where near that much for something I might use once! I going basic, real basic I saw this german starter kit which only has the lenses and rest you gotta build with pvc pipes and adapters. Saw a legit comparison video review and results were very decent. I'll see if I can find the video again and post it here.

I looked into these either they charge an arm and a leg for events they hold ( and reviews for these events have been less than favourable ) or only open to schools and uni students that also with official requests from the schools or uni.

It's just a Mitsubishi L200 pickup with a station wagon body on it, same as a fortune is a Hilux pickup with a station wagon body on it.

When is Mitsubishi coming up with the next generation of Pajeros? It's already overdue. Or like Toyota and Nissan just going to keep on milking the current platform with a new headlight, a new grill every year

2020 Kia Telluride On and Off-Road

Well businesses need to keep evolving and the ones that dont stagnate and eventually fail. Dozens of such examples available and just because they failed once doesn't mean they shouldn't try again.- 12 replies

Yeah sure. Ever since I found out it was possible to see the outer planets clearly without huge observatory type 10' telescopes and the release of the deep space hubble image ( which I have downloaded at full resolution and have my mind blown) I've been really interested in astronomy. Ok let me start with what's the smallest telescope with I can see the rings of Saturn. I'm not hoping to see the cassini division with it but rings would be nice.

Yeah I looked into that but one is never going to get a decent view of our outer planets. And That's basically what I want to do. For that you really need to have a semi decent telescope. Anyways Ill keep hunting.

I've been interested in buying a telescope for sometime now, mostly to observe Jupiter and Saturn and it's rings with my own eyes. But I want to start out with something cheap and for beginners just to see if its something Ill be interested in as a hobby. Problem is cheap telescopes are quite shitty and mostly toys for small kids or pretty expensive. There doesnt seem to be an middle path. Been looking online for used ones too. But still no luck

2020 Kia Telluride On and Off-Road
desertdude replied to Jeh's topic in Kia General Discussion Forum in UAE
Very few SUVs come with decent clearance nowadays specially the ones aimed at the US market or produced in the US because by law they cannot have more than a certain amount ( I forget the exact figure ) hence you will see most American SUVs have and an extra thick chin spoiler in the front to meet those regulations. Americans have weird regulations nd they enforce them strictly. Some good some weird. 3rd brake light ans backup camera now a must. No lights fitted on the trunk or hood which when lifted will go up with the trunk. So on and so forth. Since this is clearly aimed at the US market It has to comply with the US regulations- 12 replies

Pajero coolant expansion bottle turn brown
desertdude replied to Gaurav's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Yeah and not to mention regular dune bashing trips to the desert where they are pushed hard on a regular basis or being stuck for endless hours in stop and crawl traffic in the blistering sun in 50C + ambient temperatures. -
Buying a car from auctions in UAE: good or bad idea?
desertdude replied to Emmanuel's topic in General Discussions
In that case no not really. But never say never, I've seen a few Good parts cars come along. But never say never. There have been some cars I've seen that could be considered decent deals. But I'm always looking for the mostly non jap non economical cars. It's worth downloading the test sheet and if really serious go and have a look at the car yourself in the flesh. People are stupid and have no self control and towards the trip end of the auction most cars get into a bidding war and sold for more than what they are really worth. -

Each to his own mate, while you you wouldn't have any issues running such a hot motor I definitely would. Specially if I'm using my car for some serious off roading, It for sure can't be good for the motor or even engine internals, specially nowadays with plastic water pump impellers, timing chain guide rails, etc etc. You are just aging them much faster also slowly cooking your engine and transmission oil and transmission too, since there are many cars where the ATF is cooled from engine coolant. Like the ZF 5HP transmission which is "overheating" at 135 C and the Trans ECU throws a Trans overheat msg and goes in limp mode. So yeah once again thanks but no thanks And like I said if it was such a good thing it would be coming from the factory in at least one car. Right now I'm not aware of any. -

What do you intend to do with it/them. Personal use or flip them for profit? One that is sorted out then I can let you know what's the deal. I personally haven't bought from Emirates Auction because the price always sucks because towards the end people have no self control and end up over bidding for what the car is or going to be worth. I do have a friend who did biy one from Emirates Auction and it was a real run around to get the papers of the car, as some cars are being sold under court orders and they don't help you at all in this and you have to do your own run around to get the papers -
Pajero coolant expansion bottle turn brown
desertdude replied to Gaurav's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Not a fan of waterless coolant, there was a time I was really interested in it but after doing a little digging not so much. First of all they run make the engine hotter than normal, don't extract heat as efficiently as regular coolant does, which really can't be a good thing in these parts specially for folk who go out dune bashing regularly. Have read in some cases the cylinder heads can run upto 40C hotter specially when being pushed not to mention its stupid expensive, you pop a leak somewhere and you are done for plus more $$$$ to refill it. In this temp your aux fans or clutchfan will most probably be on all the time. the car thinking its overheating, robbing you of HP and wearing out the fans quicker. Already heat prematurely kills everything under the hood from belts to hoses and all sorts of other plastic bits and bobs, this added heat build up they will just accelerate the process. Newer cars run hot as is very close to overheating temps anyways because of emissions add extra heat to the system and probably throw the ECU off thinking its running lean or something making all sorts of other problems. If it was such a great product I'm sure it would have caught on by now, because waterless coolant has been around for quite a while now and maybe even coming from factory on some cars. ok fine not on cheap econo-boxes because of cost but some of the highend luxury rides which cost millions, like Bentleys, Rolls etc etc So yeah thanks but no thanks!
