@treks I made amistake I didnt check anything and handed over car to mechanic who flushed and refilled coolant but the heating remain same plus the AC gas disapeared and started suggesting me to do different modifications, I shifted my car to another mechanic as per him radiator is blocked due improper flushing and thermostatic valve not working, By today evening he will give me detail report , lets see  .Personally belive if thermostatc valve working proper no harm in locking the fan

Flushing is pointless, might as well hit your radiator with a sandal and ask it to behave. Flushing is basically to maintain your radiator not fix it when it's clogged.

Personally even rodding it has not worked long for me. Only real fix is to replace it

And while you are at it throw away your thermostat. I know people will make a ruckus about it but here where its always this hot it does nothing  other than create another point of failure you have to worry about

That car is a fantastic bullet. But good luck trying to find one.

2 years back when i just entered the club, one of my colleagues left Dubai and went back to his home country and sold his Prado SWB VX in IMMACULATE condition. He hardly drove it and it was always parked in a basement. I remember he kept telling me that locals on SZ road were honking at him and asking if it was for sale, but he never understood why that car was so attractive.

Anyways, he sold it one day, and i only realized months later what capable car that was...

Yes that is true and for good reason, when they do come up for sale, they get snatched up in a blink of an eye. So one really has to be on the lookout with cash in his pocket

I made my final decision for selling the Grand Cherokee and Getting a Xterra after my ministry of interior`s(wife) approval. I am actually not %100 decided if i should go for a Xterra or a FJcruiser. But i am more close to a Xterra. I have few questions, i will appreciate it if you guys share your experiences with these cars or any other car i should look at?

    - Should i go for 2014-2015 50.000 - 60.000km pristine condition Xterra Off Road around 50.000-55.000AED or getting 2012 Xterra Off Road above 100.000km for 35.000AED. All the cars have full Nissan service history. I can pay more for 2015 car but if 2012 model above 100,000km car still good enough, why i will pay more. Another option 2009 Xterra Off Road above 200.000km is too old to purchase?

    - When i come to FJ Crusier i can get 2012-2013 manual gearbox ones. Is manual gearbox good to buy? Generally other off road cars manual ones are going more expensive but FJ Cruiser manuals are cheaper. Any reason?

    - Is FJ Cruiser worth to pay more over a Xterra?

I'm surprised this car doesn't get mentioned at all here is the Prado SWB VXR V6. It's the same drivetrain as the Prado lwb and Fjcruiser but in a lighter package

And with slight suspension mods it's a real killer

I have seen this long time back. I will let the newbies and Fewbies take a crack at what went wrong here. Nowadays most 4x4s are made lighter, with crumple zones and with materials which get effected easily. This could be due to emission levels which they need to control, in the name of safety or just for cost cutting to keep their costs low and profit margins high. Most manufacturers don't make money while selling cars, but from selling spares, this car is going to need all the left side panels at the minimum.

This thread is almost 30 pages long and filled with rolls and tip overs but none of the cars ends up looking like used tin foil.

I've rolled 3 times myself and never seen this.

This is most probably due to shit sheet metal bracing and the ugly Pajero bulbous shape with the fat wheel arches and hips.

I was honestly shocked how much it was damaged with just a simple low speed tip over like this.

Only if you can shed light to 100% prove whether clutch is culprit or not?

Not that newspaper test or hand movement test, as its one way test, to test its running at half RPM.

I mean how will you make sure its engaging at right thermal point as designed 15 years back and not half an hour later?

A new clutch will work as it's supposed to.

If you have a fan clutch that is 15 years old and you are bashing your car off road. Then you have bigger problems than just your fan.

And in this scenario this discussion is moot anyways. Since it's happening at highway-ish speeds where the fan has no role to play in engine cooling

  7. If by direct you mean the clutch is jammed and spins with the same rpm as the engine does all the time then it I s a bad idea regardless.

I've had vehicles before that had this band aid hack on them aboslutely terrible. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

And don't mind if I go with a car manufacturer who has spent billions on R&D by trained engineers over Mr Gaurav weekend warrior research and data.

A properly working fan is more than enough. It's thermally activated  regardless of speed. So even if you are going fast in the desert and under hood temps get high it kicks into action.

If you must go that root then get rid of it all together and put a couple off Kenlowes on it with a indash switch.

You will actually gain more power this way. Car will be a lot smoother and quieter too.

  8. I disagree totally, if the normal temp is around a 100 degree then 110 and that too in his summer heat is acceptable and within operational range. Unless specified otherwise by Jeep.

Second never ever direct you fan clutch. You will be robbing your car of massive horsepower, increase in fuel usage and extra stress on pulleys and tensioners. Not to mentions it's will howl like a banshee all the time and the faster you go the louder the howl

Clutch fans are there only to assist in airflow when the car is moving slow or standing and not enough air is flowing through the radiator once car starts moving above certain speed fan is no longer needed and disconnects. If the car is overheating "

Making a fan direct is just a band aid temp fix. Better to replace the clutch. Fan has no role to play in cooling the car at speeds like 90.

If it really is overheating at 90 then sertec is probably right. It's a clogged rad.

Tonight I drive around half hour when I got close to home I kept the gear ar 1st and drive with high rev. Than I park to a dark spot and keep revving bit more. After that I check the underneath but nothing glowing. I check the exhaust outlet air is coming out.

Air will be coming otherwise you car won't run at all. But what is the amount and pressure. You checked the simple way. Now check the technical way Barry mentioned

That’s what I was getting to with computer diagnostic too. Less air coming in means less air going out which means blocked cat. I would unbolt the cat from the manifold and go for a sprint to see if you gain the power back, obviously if it’s safe and you’re not going to have flames coming out on petrol lines etc. The proper way to do it would be to remover the front lambda sensor out and screw in a back pressure tester but not everyone is going to have one of those.

This just the more direct, fast and no tools or faffing about required approach.

Two different methods to look for the same result.

Because I remember long before diagnostics tools were cheap and only available to dealers. Had a Land Cruiser with the same issue. Everything checked out but car was sluggish.

After a long day of looking for the issue decided to call it a day and when switched off the lights of the garage saw a glow coming from under the car. Looked under the car and the exhaust was glowing orange and viola culprit was found.

It has some weird non off road bumpers

It's just a bolt on ricer ground effect kit, can't you see with the bling wheels it was a mall crawler all it's life. Which is actually good news knowing it was never  abused off road.

Probably has a big bass bin the back too! Lol!

Not sure if anyone else here watches the show Car SOS, but they did a treatment on one of their restorations (a VW Camper van if i am not wrong) where this paint was used. In the right hands, and I am a real fan of Fuzz Townsend, the addition of the pain had an amazing impact on the vehicle and gave it a real wow factor. It does not change the color of the paint on the vehicle so should not be a problem in registration as the base color would stay constant.

Use to watch it but got bored of these formula car shows.

    An abandoned car

    Sad story behind it

    They sneak the car away

    Find more issues than expected

Oh no! Will they ever get it done in time

A small miracle happens and it's done in time

Return to owner who is all smiles and tear. Awwwe warm fuzzy feeling in heart

    Rinse and repeat.

FYI, I just ziplock the flag pole (a fishing rod) to the rear gate handle.

Ahh yes my kind of man. Simple yet effective Mcgyver ideas.

P.S : it's zip ties not ziplock. Zip lock are the transparent bags used to keep sandwiches fresh! Lol
