  1. Welcoming @Rami Hanna - 1999 Pajero 3.5 - Proud owner I just met near my office and stopped him on the busy street to say hi (too bad), as you hardly see these beasts in pristine condition and still running with full pride and honor. Looking forward to seeing you Rami more often on drives or near our offices.
  2. Get your battery checked and changed (if needed), I had this same issue but only once and next day battery died. So this four wheel drive faulty is a known issue when battery dying as it has electronic oil and when that oil gets a fluctuation in voltage it throws this error.
  3. The second point what I was trying to make with this thread is to educate car buyers that every off-road vehicle cannot be used for dune bashing or drive through dunes (in other words). Probably only 20% of the so-called off-road vehicle is capable of such extreme use out of which only 10% does it reliably and without breaking your bank account.
  4. @malek is almost correct and then second comes @skumar83 and @Frederic Nuyttens Only slight correction that dune bashing is not always you bash the dunes likes of Faya or big red, but traverse through the dunes means it can be slow or fast but through the dunes. Choosing tracks to drive in the middle of dunes is not dune bashing but offroading, that's the point I wanted to make here. A lot of newbie joins on a drive with tons of offroad experience and get crested on the first dune they cross as either they been to track with other clubs or been to beach sand or roadside sand with inflated tires. @desertdude correctly mentioned that desert safari guys stick to desert driving than dune bashing and just touch a couple of side slope to tilt the car and make tourist scream. Totally different world in that line of business when you have to please the tourist in 30 mins - 60 mins drive and make them jump on sunset point for selfies.
  5. What an awesome choice of terrain after a long time and perfect timing to beat the heat and plus relax at evening.
  6. And then another savior for snail driver comes into play - No overtaking from right, buhahahahaah They can drive anywhere they want and at any speed they want. Period.
  7. For experienced and inexperienced offroaders: please state the difference between dune bashing and offroading in your own words, experience or examples.
  8. I'm actually waiting for some official or unofficial fine, gesture, law, rule bla bla for people driving in fast lane much below the speed limit and refuse to give side - no matter what.
  9. Yes, this was my very old video that Jeh dug up from somewhere. It was my first 4x4 in 2006 - 2008
  10. I strongly believe that in today's day and age every fuel station in UAE must be operating with tons of filters to attend to such issue of sedimentation while filling storage tanks or while dispersing fuel. Especially ADNOC and ENOC have very high standards to meet.
  11. Don't be confused, as apart from the 2004 year I mistakenly mentioned 2006, but every word still stands correct for Land Rover Discovery as per your OP. 2005 onwards came LR3 and then from 2010 onward came LR4. Few of my friends drove both offroad and LR4 is way much better than LR3 but they both are very heavy for dune bashing but very good for offroading - overall.
  12. I have edited my entire post: 2006 to 2004
  13. Good luck @bvb, maybe we should make a Pajero club and meet, what you think @Frederic Nuyttens @Ren13...? We are 4 now
  14. OMG, that's really bad, I wish every car manufacturer designed fuel filter outside the tank and mark it as a serviceable item. It's not only UAE petrol, but I hear a lot of stories for Oman and Saudi petrol clogging the fuel filter immediately after salalah trip, saudi trips etc. All these countries have different standards and refining from various places in the world to make it difficult to control so why not clean or change the fuel filter once in every 1-2 year or 40-60k km.
  15. From my relatively vast tire experience, I never heard of this brand and I wouldn't be putting my pretty money unless I hear 1000+ good stories, as every tire manufacturer has loads of investment in the marketing department but too little in product development. Hope you understand what I'm trying to explain. If the matter is only 100 dhs cheaper than Yokohama Geolander A/T, then my brotherly advice is to go with Yokohama surely.
  16. Btw, my last accident (my fault) happened in 2008 due to LR discovery weak brakes (known issue), where I slammed on brakes and still this tank run into a traffic jam and hit because I didn't have time to pump the brake in advance. I knew this weak brakes since the day I bought it and showed plenty of LR experts and everyone says this is the max braking power you can get out of this beast as its heavy, as it has mars technology bla bla and most you can do is pump the brake before every red light to be ready. After that accident, I stopped driving that as all LR discovery braking is not as sharp and crispy like Japanese or German cars. After 2008 in the LR4 shape they have improved tremendously, as I have tested few LR4 and they seem to have awesome crisp brakes.
  17. Owning both of the beasts at some point in my life, I can write tons on this subject but still, I will not think to compare both as these two beasts are totally different animals. Maybe I am wrong here, due to my Japanese biased mentality. Toyota Land Cruiser 2003 - 2008 Shape ULTRA RELIABLE - 5 Stars. Efficient and low maintenance - that's why safari company loves this. Not a tall dune climber, but reasonably good offroader. Great towing and cargo capacity. Fuel guzzler due to 4.5 engine designed on V6 setup than V8. Land Rover Discovery 1999 - 2004 Shape Reliability is questionable - weak brakes, electrical and plenty of sensors failure, EAS failure on new models. Efficient but comes with a high maintenance cost as everyone who touches LR should have a Midas touch. Not a dune climber, not a good offroader - unless you hone your offroad skills to the extreme to get all the juices out. Good towing and cargo space, third row - too cramped. Fuel efficient due to V8 setup. Awesome highway ride quality due to V8 and well-balanced ride unlike LC

  19. I'm happy to have a puncture and pull bike a km or two then getting scratched by car. Light is on its way and few other titbits

  21. Thanks, @ging for the suggestion, I got a helmet and gloves so far and will see what else I can afford in this heat and the non-cycle friendly world. @Barry I totally agree with your thoughts on this as the first day I chose street ride for 2 km to reach to cycling strip and got the creeps as every passing car was so close to me, so while coming back I thought to ride bike in opposite lane and almost every second car was dipping the high beam as if I couldn't see them and making me blind in hard shoulder. Then I decided to stick to the 1 km rough patch than the side street.
  22. Thanks and I checked the red line site and it says 15W50 is incompatible with my engine as it uses 5W30, going back to the chicken and egg situation to change the oil spec or not? If yes then higher viscosity of 50 than 30 will really gonna do any good than harm....? Indeed, the work is in progress but with limited time in hand from @shadow79 this is taking longer than usual.
