  1. There is only two things I like to add here after such a nice trip report and pictures by everyone: It was not only the driver's fault for the flip but also the extreme weather condition to be blamed for such an unfortunate scene. Sand storm made it difficult to read the dunes and rain made the sand harder from top to prevent the stuck, which resulted in a flip. By seeing the gopro footage (which is not very clear from a distance) I can see that driver wanted to follow the lead over a broad ridge and due to being too close he estimated that leader will take left or his car slided left, whereas leader has gone right. So to correct that immediate left to right on relatively soild sand (due to rain) car flipped on driver side. Secondly, unlike many other offroad clubs here in UAE we like to share and discuss these unfortunate situations to educate everyone to avoid same mistakes in future. Everyone should feel free to share and discuss these incidents in a healthy way to bring some valuable knowledge from which everyone can learn and enjoy this extreme sport carefully (no name and shame please).
  2. Good to see names filling in fast. Hope to see signup from @wingnut @jason200 @Radhika @presism @evoboy2016
  3. There are some very important points I like to share with absolute newbie based on my extensive off-road experience: Deflation is king:- Always deflate between 12-14 PSI and double check the deflation after 30 mins of driving. Under-deflation is the first and biggest cause of all stucks and refusals. Straight up, straight down:- As a newbie for first few drives, no sideways and no side sloping for your own safety until you get hang of your vehicle reaction in sand and that too on side sloping. For first few drives, go straight up the down and then come straight down, not sideways. Learn from other people mistakes:- If you see car in front of you struggled on some patch, choose little right or left path to not to repeat the same mistake. Desert is open so be creative and safe. Don't defy the gravity:- If you can't climb uphil, simply go back and try again with little more speed just enough to climb. Don't defy the gravity once stuck, as that will dig you more deeper. Keep yourself calm and don't panic:- No matter even after 100 stucks, keep yourself calm as when you panic you will loose the fun of driving off-road and get stuck more by getting scared unnecessarily.
  4. because no one search cars in uae, they just go and buy the car....lololololololol.
  5. Good to see you all joining back, i'm sure ill be good fun tomorrow.
  6. Thanks for your appreciating words, hope to see you again Carlos.
  7. I have heard few praising it in Dubai even having bigger 4x4, only key is to cover this jack with some cloth or bed sheet (explained by @Rahimdad) to avoid touching the hot exhaust pipes.
  8. Treks is right danny, if its major slit better change it for safety reason. I had a similar one in my Mustang low profile tire and it was very superficial slight cut since over a month now and it's fine. For major deep cut, change them asap.
  9. Awesome clicks @evoboy2016 and shilpa, thanks for joining. Hope to see you soon in your own 4x4 buddies......! What about coming friday drive, are you both joining again....? It will be good fun in Tawi area that is slightly more challenging than Mahafiz newbie level.
  10. Just came across this on whatsapp, may be @amid this seems more viable solution for your worries. I think / hope this device should be available in market to install too for private vehicles too, so that you can interrupt the tailgater radio for few seconds to run the warning in 4 language, very creative attempt by RTA dubai.
  11. Here you go guys, video for last our Friday newbie drive:
  12. Hi Jason, just realized that while saving the track it overlapped with my other 3 more drive - 2 in same area and 1 in liwa. Attaching here the full track, if you want to use it, ignore the liwa (distant) portion and zoom into mahafiz - fossil rock area you can still use it. If you find some more intelligent way to edit these kmz file, do let me know so that I can also clean it up. Mahafiz To Faya.kmz Mahafiz To Faya.gpx
  13. I'm glad you learned and enjoyed, hope you pass the same knowledge and experience to other newbies in the future.
  14. I'm using MotionX-GPS app on iPhone and I'm totally impressed with its track recording, saving and sharing capabilities. Below is the yesterday track, started from Mahafiz mosque (left) - Fossil Rock (Right top) - Faya (center down) - Mahafiz.
  15. I agree, I am waiting for @evoboy2016 pictures as well. Thanks Joseph for taking such nice clicks from my camera, and bringing some good meaning to this camera. You have to teach me these photography skills on every drive now.
  16. It was an amazing day with all you great people, love your spirit and enthusiasm. Thanks to all for great company and hope you have learned enough to continue living with this sand bug. I still can't believe how we have done absolute newbie drive from newbie level to intermediate level in few hours (climibing faya) with zero stuck and without using the tow rope. You all are great learner and excellent off-roaders. Thanks @Rahimdad for all the lead, support and excellent guidance to let all of them graduate from newbie to fewbie. Here are the pictures for today, video will follow shortly
  17. This is exactly I have done few years back and realized that Mobil1 wins all the time in my case (car + driving style). It's a tad expensive but worth every extra spend when I feel the throttle response and mileage.
  18. Sure absolutely, you can teach newbies even more advance level, it'll be fun but only if you can wake up so early..........!
  19. Just checked with trip leader and this is where he will be taking us tomorrow: Mahafiz - Fossil rock / Saddle point. Getting excited guys....? Get your cameras and phone fully charged now. You can even climb up this rock for great photography spots. Fossil Rock - Top view Fossil Rock - Saddle point Fossil Rock
  20. I have got this crap from small time shops too for my pajero obdII not compatible and they have to change the switch and I need to leave the car and pay 300 dhs. Took the car to barry expecting same story, and in one minute he found the right adapter and scan the car for free (in promo). Moral: If you go to big garage they have proper scanner that comes with loads of adapter to fit and these small shops must be getting cheapest obdII scanner with limited adapters. @Barry when next you are running free scanning promo for carnity members again...?
  21. I seriously think onus is on the owner, as all petrol station here sells the most expensive (fully synthetic) to most cheapest (mineral oil) in all emirates. I remember when I had Cayenne turbo who needs topping up 1L every 1500 kms I used to buy fully synthetic oil from ENOC and never had any issues. Having said that, I do not get the oil change at any petrol station as I love one specific oil brand that I always stick to, it's kind of brand loyalty because whenever I put that in my car I can see the instant improvement from response, idle pinking, mileage and so on. I think barry reaction is of the interval more than the temperature rating to be honest, as outside temperature is only 25% of actual temperature inside the sump, in excess of 250 degrees. Second big thing is all owner MUST read and stick to car manufacturer specifications, as that's the best and safest way to keep your car happy. Once you know which type, then you can select the brand based on price vs experience vs convenience. I agree with desertdude that changing oil little early is much better than waiting for exact kms, as oil is so cheap and readily available that one should never ignore or delay that.

  23. I vote for Mobil 1 as the best engine oil, over the other brands. My choice is based on my own experience since last 10 years and Mobil 1 quality and engine response always surpassed other brands.
  24. Solid state relay = no clicking noise Relay 45 is not there in gcc models Jumping not advisable as it may cook whole HDM unit. EBay = 35 usd + 25 shipping + 2 week's Carnity hoo haa, still best option to debug
