@Ilya Golubinsky you're right. I understand you. I'm not much into mods, as more you dwell into mods, more components, more chances of failure. 35s as I said are good for off-roading in mountains and rocks. Sure you can try them out in sand. But as you mentioned it would need some mods to support the 35s. Plus heavier tires do take a toll on your engine and transmission. I had a friend once who had a TJ which gave him 400 KMS on a full tank. Once he molded his car to support 35s and put them on his fuel economy went down by about 50%, he used to get only 250 KMS on a full tank. He was always complaining about some issue or the other with the 35s. Once he even flipped his TJ on a roundabout with the 35s. My experience after watching my friend suffer is enough to teach me a lesson.

Let me know how it works out for you. I've never seen someone make a difference for the better with 33s or 35s.

This has been confirmed repeatedly by Jeep enthusiasts, including the guy who runs Jeepers 🙂.  .Jeep is already prone to Roll overs and lifts required to accommodate heavier tyres surely affect the performance in terms of steering response/mileage as.well as enhances the risk of roll/trip overs...

Before buying my wrangler, I asked a friend working at Mopar in US and he advised against going for lifts etc unless really going for mountain/rocky trails etc. Sahara comments with 32 inch tyrea and can accommodate 33, without lift, I don't think this additional 1 inch (further in any case reduced post deflating) is going to make a diff in drive on sand.

  2. Thanks @Frederic exactly the query I was about to ask, mainly as I noted the requirement of high profile tyres for upgrade to Intermediate.

I drive a Wrangler Sahara 2020 model with stock 18 inch rim and stock all terrain tyres. I have been happy with performance, especially once it's down to 12-13psi. Plus gives a smooth on road drive  So wasn't too happy with thought that might have to change, as didn't understood the expectation well.

Your post clarifies it for me. Thanks for the same ..

  3. True i agree, varies for each vehicle...I drive a wrangler so electronics and smart systems are luxury (perhaps the same level as 2011 chevy you mentioned)...it's perhaps on off-road mode even on road - as someone joked about it, it has traction control just to ensure it gets clearance from agencies .... 🙂. .However within it's limited smart things, I do like the BLD and miss the front camera while going down...

Also in addition to car it depends on driver, many of us are in any case not using shift on daily basis, so to expect change to shift from D once in a week, that too in adventurous situation is perhaps a challenge... so quite a few factors.

Reg the preference for smart things - lack of it (vis-a-vis some smart off-roaders) didn't affect my decision to buy Wrangler, however among wrangler options, I went for one with additional electronic features... So I think it's a complicated relation between Car n driver.😄..

  4. Nothing can replace experience and real old school understanding of machine and it's use to achieve result....... However some AI feature really add to the experience .. As marshalls in Carnity always say - drive in D, machine at most times has better response than us...

My belief about spending on latest tech - If in affordable range and enhances one's performance, why not? I may practice without switching on thesefeatures but would like to have them too...

  5. Thanks @Chaitanya D for the beautiful ride today.... The setting, convoy size, weather, team spirit all added to an awesome experience. The sheer size of dunes and bowls,  the beautiful color of sand provided the weekend adrenaline rush. .

Thanks to @Kailas @Islam Soliman and @Gaurav Soni, couldn't have asked for a better team while exploring the intermediating dunes of Sweihan. Sorry guys you had to cut on temptations Sweihan offered due to me. I promise, let me have a few more drives and we will get back there again and we will conquer those all soon togather...

Special thanks to @Brette for motivating me to join this drive ..🙂

Cheers and looking forward for the next drive with you all.

Missed to add that "Jeep rocks"...😄

I went last night for the test and was told they changed the validity to 24hrs now, that was after spending 90mins in the queue..

I plan to leave early and get the test then drive to the meeting location.. we meet at  Adnoc Alsaad (854) 7:00am, right?

Thought Al Faya is off the route... However couldn't get the appointment in Dubai Mina Rashid location, so o guess will have to start a early tomo morning to plan for test...

  7. True, top installation is worst... Even with windscreen the real ht of dune is not clear so can imagine the view for top mounted.. ...

A friend suggested buying 2-3 dash cams and installing at multiple locations - under fenders, side door etc, these cameras don't cost much (100-150 for a decent one)..but then to control them need a co-driver...

Will perhaps try positioning it diff locations at diff stages of drive and capture the diff views...

    Let's see..

  8. Couldn't find a better way to share due to size limitations... quality affected a bit as tried to cut down the size... My first attempt at it and forgot to turn on the camera in initial part of drive 😄 plus left my iPad at office so had to live with free android videoshop app with limited options.. . Hopefully will be better next time, till then enjoy.
