  1. Does the AC light flicker or is steady when you stop cooling? After turning the car off and then on, does it start cooling?
  2. From a safety perspective for any drive there should be minimum of 3 cars. So let's wait to see if the required participation is there by Thursday morning and then decide.
  3. With the official end of the summer season, we plan to restart having two drives a day. And what better way then to up the pace at Al Faqa desert which is famous for its long range tall dunes that are fun to drive at good pace for ridge riding, side sloping that would test your offroad skills. The drive is for Intermediates and above only. Plan is to start at sunrise and drive till about 10:30 AM or even a bit more weather permitting. When: 4 Oct 2019, Friday Meeting time: 05:30 AM, the convoy will move sharply at 05:45 AM Where: Al Faqa Desert GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/dt57TRJ3ak4SrCkX8 Level of drive: Intermediate and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive and enjoy from 5:45 AM till about 10:30 AM What to bring along: Snacks - whatever you like with little extra to share, water, smiles, stories, and enthusiasm. Please RSVP the below calendar event
  4. I guess what you have mentioned is a bit dramatized as this is a job that they have willingly choosen to do. I agree that delivery guys should never be penalised for late delivery and I don't think in UAE there is a system of penalty. In India when Domino's pizza was launched and their promise was to deliver the pizza within 30 minutes else the pizza is free. And the cost would be borne by the delivery guy. Imagine, a company like Domino's doing this. But coming back to the topic, these delivery boys drive quite rashly at times and like Fred said they need to learn to drive defensive for their own safety. I have seen bikers over taking from the right so often. They drive here similar to how they do back home where they zigzag through the traffic, but the big difference is the speed and the size of the cars.
  5. Get road side assistance and recovery to take you across Emirates. Rest all is same
  6. Of course. It's boring to drive automatic. The real fun is in stick 😂
  7. Hi Rahim Bhai, could you provide the name of the garage that did a good job. I am unfortunately in need of it.
  8. I have generally had very good experience with Oman Insurance, in terms of quick approval of claims. They also used to cover offroad damages. However, in this one case where one car had a total loss, they deducted about 10% of the insured value (by quoting some clause in their booklet). The car was insured only for about 20 days. Of-late, i have started shifting all my vehicle insurance to RSA mainly because of their good service and excellent road side assistance. I even do some property insurance with them as well. And whenever the sale of the vehicle took place they would refund the premium amount on pro rata basis within 1 working day. Extremely happy. Noor takaful and Tokyo Marine are also good insurances in terms of road side recoveries
  9. yes it has. we had done a drive there about a month ago.
  10. And I also think you need to start hitting the dunes quickly.
  11. Shamil was driving well in the previous drives and I agree with Gaurav, that this was just a judgement error rather a drive level related one. And mistakes happen to the best of us, and most of the time its just simply a case on not reacting to the situation correctly and fast enough. Having experienced similar situations in the past, its best that Shamil decides what suites him. After all, we are all there just to have some fun during our weekend.
  12. I honestly don't see a reason to modify the vehicle. It's a powerful beast on its own. Have you started taking it offroad? Or noticed any issues?
  13. @Shamil it takes a lot of courage to showcase one's error and to analyze it as well. I am 100% sure, you and your Xterra will come out much stronger. Look forward to seeing you in the sand.
  14. Love the technical dunes and the challenge that Lisalli provides. Nice choice of area.
  15. While I do understand the concept of such business and that they need to make money. But at least offer a proper service for the money that you are taking. The easiest way to sell a car is by lowering the price. You don't require a genius to understand that. What's important is to be fair to all the parties that are involved. I guess it just shows again to stay away from such dealers who have shallow knowledge and really don't bother at what price you sell the car as long as they get their commission.
  16. Trip Report - It was a beautiful start to a Friday, with a nice relaxing Newbie Drive with your buddies as well as the Absolute Newbies. Everyone reached on time which was much appreciated. We had 3 Absolute Newbies in our convoy, @tjsingh @Syed Ahmed and the other @Roshan Abraham. After the detailed brief, we headed to the deflation point where we assigned the convoy numbers. @Gaurav was my second lead. A big shout out to him for correcting the route wherever required to ensure that everyone had a smooth path. All 3 newbies closely followed his track and they all managed exceptionally well. @Frederic was positioned right behind the newbies to assist them when needed. @AKR and @Emil followed with @Rahimdad and @shadow79 managing the sweep duties. We started with tracks and some small dunes where we did some sideys. Though a couple of refusals, everyone did well which gave me the confidence to up the level as we were approaching the medium size dunes. The real fun started at the base of pink rocks where everyone made an attempt going up Pink Rock. Even the Newbies made an attempt with @Gaurav and @Rahimdad sitting alongside them. If it was not enough doing it in their own cars, we all took turns with other's cars. After close to an hour of playing we exited out to 2nd December where we all sat down for our breakfast. After saying goodbye to Newbies, Rahim Bhai suggested a quick spin till Big Fall. He found some amazing virgin rolling dunes and we were treated to an absolute smooth drive, Rahim Bhai style. During this session, I was driving behind @AKR, and for the first time I could feel that he was in sync with his car and was driving with lot of confidence. Overall a wonderful day and drive. Big thank you to everyone that supported the drive and especially to the senior members @Gaurav @Rahimdad @Frederic @shadow79 to back me up.
  17. Since you are looking for onroad tyres, you can look at the Korean tyres like Kumho and Nexen. Good value for your money and are reasonably quiet. If your budget is more than I guess Michelin tyres are the best when it comes less noise. The tyres sold there are genuine, just ensure that the you can get the manufacturing date as latest as possible.
  18. Hi TJ, I am sure Nissan Patrol would have one in the front as well. If needed you can send pictures and we can guide. We need tow hooks in the front and back to help recover you when needed.
  19. @tjsingh @Syed Ahmed please ensure that you have recovery points both in the front and back of your car. In case of any doubts, please do let us know.
  20. If the engine oil is below the minimum level mark, it would be safer to top up with any other brand of oil as long as its the same spec. And if you are near your scheduled service, to do the oil change a bit more earlier than usual.
  21. @Syed Ahmed welcome to Carnity and the Offroad Club. Look forward to seeing you on Friday. In meanwhile, could you please advise which 4x4 you are driving?
  22. But then by that logic, in my XJ what was thought to be the differential turned out to be the front drive shaft joint. Even over there the noise used to come faintly when accelerating to 2H and loudly in 4H. Guess when there is force applied the noise increases. Tell me one point, when I am driving in D, and releasing the accelerator why does the noise stop.
  23. know few people who used the Dubai police app and they were also done in about 10-15 minutes. Possibly, it was a glitch the time it was not working.
