  1. Amaron are the only batteries I recommend to my customers. In the U.K. all I ever used was Varta. Never had any issues with either.
  2. If it handles anything like their petrol engined 3 wheeler it will be a complete driftbus.
  3. Tesla has been told to drop the Autopilot brand name, which it uses to promote its driver-assistance software, in Germany. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) confirmed it had told Tesla to scrap the "misleading" term. It said the term gave customers "incorrect expectations" that they could stop concentrating on the road and let Autopilot take over completely. Tesla said it had always told drivers to keep their hands on the wheel. The Autopilot software helps cars: ■ stay in lane automatically ■ adjust their speed in reaction to other vehicles ■ change lane without the driver's intervention However, Tesla has been clear that the feature should only be used on the motorway, and drivers must still pay full attention to the road. The firm has been under scrutiny after one of its vehicles running Autopilot crashed, killing the owner. "It can be confirmed that a letter to Tesla exists with the request to no longer use the misleading term Autopilot for the driver-assistance system of the car," a KBA spokeswoman told news agency Reuters. According to the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, the letter to Tesla said: "We demand that the misleading term Autopilot is no longer used in advertising the system." In a statement, Tesla said the term autopilot had been used in aviation for decades. "Tesla's Autopilot operates in conjunction with the human driver to make driving safer and less stressful. This is how the term has been used for decades in aerospace: to denote a support system that operates under the direct supervision of a human pilot," the company said. "We have always been clear with our customers that Autopilot is a drivers assistance system that requires the driver to pay attention at all times. "Just as in an airplane, when used properly, Autopilot reduces driver workload and provides an added layer of safety when compared to purely manual driving." The company's co-founder Elon Musk had been expected to make an announcement related to Tesla on Monday, but he has now tweeted that it has been delayed until Wednesday for "refinement".
  4. In your opinion, what do you think is the ugliest car ever produced?
  5. The FIA's support series to Formula E is unique in that it will have no drivers. Announced in 2015 and scheduled to demo during the 2016/17 Formula E season, ‘Roborace’ will feature a grid of physically identical cars- the challenge to the 10 teams being to develop the artificial intelligence required to allow the car to compete. http://roborace.com/
  6. That's what forums should be about. Sharing is caring 😊 Drop by the garage for a coffee any time. I always have time for a chat.
  7. @Rahimdad absolutely no offence taken and I agree with your points. I too have been part of workshops like you mention which always lead to me never working for them for long. Now I'm with Location Garage and I'm foreman, I have the chance to do work to the proper standard I'm used to working to in the uk. Many many times I have been asked to deliberately do shoddy work when with other companies. Now, before I carry out any work, I inform the customer of what needs to be done and how it will be done. They have the opportunity to read all my books and get all the information. Anyone is welcome to visit the garage any time and call in for tea, coffee and a chat. Work or no work.
  8. The first time I saw one of the bigger geelys I had to walk around the back to check the badge. I couldn't believe it was Chinese. In 3-4 years when they have been on the road for a while we will see what they are really like.
  9. Really? Chinese cars aren't allowed in America? That's something I didn't know. I know a couple of guys in the U.K. who bought Great Wall pickups and they seem to swear by them. They've have no major issues in 4 years of ownership. Chinese cars have a stigma attached to them. I wonder if it's going to be the same as Japanese cars in the late 70s/early 80s where everyone used to laugh at them and now they're one of the. Invest car manufacturing nations in the world. Also Korea with brands like Hyundai and Kia that were once a laughing stock in the 90s and are now producing some of the most popular cars on the road Personally, I have no problem with Chinese products. When you look at some of the smartphones they are producing, Huawei, Oppo etc. A few years ago they were unknown and now they're becoming market leaders. Then on the other hand you have a Korean brand like Samsung who were supposed to be one of the biggest and have just recalled 2.5 million phones that were randomly catching fire then replaced them with an updated model that also caught fire. I say give the Chinese a chance.
  10. Here are some useful links for owners manuals, workshop manuals, parts catalogues etc. If anyone has any other useful links, please feel free to share, http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/ http://uploaded.net/folder/xwfxxg Japanese parts catalogues, http://www.epc-data.com VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda parts, http://www.etka.cc VIN decoder (find out your cars original spec etc.) http://www.vindecoderz.com I also have full workshop manuals for most of the popular GCC stuff on my laptop, Patrol, Landcruiser, Camry, Lexus, Pajero etc. If anyone wants any, drop by the garage with a memory stick and I'll give you a copy.
  11. Scrapyards are generally a good place to find owners manuals. If the scrapyard has one of the cars, chances are there will be a manual in the glovebox. I used to make some spare cash going round the scrapyards at home, giving a bad price for all the manuals I could get my hands on then selling them on eBay.
  12. Who's laughing at Geely now? http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport/bloodhound-ssc-land-speed-record-gets-go-ahead-geely-confirms-sponsorship
  13. It's good to know there are other people out there with the same disease as me. Happy birthday Carnity and may you have many more!
  14. If you want, I can plug the computer in and try an idle speed relearn.
  15. If it's inside the dash it'll be tricky to track down but what you can do is stick bits of paper or card in all the gaps you see, beside the radio, glovebox lid etc. If you do them one at a time you should be able to find it. I kind of specialise in pajeros @Gaurav @DiamondDallas 😂
  16. I'd say Location Garage in Al Quoz but I'm biased 😊 Ive worked on a couple of them before.
  17. TBH, they're pretty simple cars and anyone should be able to work on them
  18. Here is a very good documentary on the delorean story, this year was the 30th anniversary. There was a huge event in Belfast and a large number of the cars came back to where they were born. They also had a long drive around the island so everyone could enjoy them.
  19. I've read elsewhere that the car in the photo is supposed to be the concept version of the detomaso pantera. Another very cool car in its day. The original dmc12 was built not far away from my hometown and there was always a lot of buzz about it. John Delorean was a legend in my eyes. He managed to completely screw the British government and get away with it. I always thought it was sad the way the FBI decided to set him up on a cocaine deal. Possibly wasn't the best way for him to make some quick cash but his heart was in the right place trying to get money to save the jobs of the workers at the plant.
  20. I would like some of the figures to be a bit more accurate than 35-80 miles. 45 miles is a big distance! I used to have a VW Polo and I wanted to know how far it would go before it actually conked out so I put a gallon jar of petrol in the boot and set out. I got quite a suprise when the needle went way below the zero mark. Running out of fuel used to be one of my favourite hobbies. Always had to be somewhere and never had time to go to the petrol station, too much rushing. Not to much trouble on a petrol car, just put fuel in again and go but caused a lot of problems in some diesels I had, especially older ones which would airlock and were a PITA to get going again at the side of the road.
  21. Make sure whoever does it covers your coil packs, exposed wiring plugs etc with an old plastic bag or similar.
  22. Check everything. If there's a switch or a knob, push it and make sure it works. What may seem like a small problem can be expensive to repair. Use defects as a bargaining chip on purchase price.
  23. Look for a switch on the a or b pillar where the door closes against it. It'll be like a small button with a rubber cover. If it's stuck, spray some wd40 on it and tap it until it starts working. You should be able to pop it out with a screwdriver. If you bridge the terminals on the plug with a paper clip or a bit of wire, the interior lights should come on. If the lights come on using this method but don't work via the switch, you know that the switch is faulty. If the lights don't come on it is a wiring issue.
  24. Yes that's him. He still lives in india but he's here at the minute. There's a chance to go and meet him tonight if anyone's interested,
