  2. Judging by the crowd, enthusiasm and positive feedback from this Fridays drive, I'm pleased to announce the upcoming drive on Friday morning to let more people experience the magic of driving in the sands of UAE. This drive was supposed to be a fewbie drive, however depending on the ability of the convoy we can easily make it to a newbie level. What will you be able to achieve from such a drive is the confidence and knowledge of what you are capable of and at the same time What your 4x4 is capable of. When : 3 February 2017 at 7:30 am Where : Emirates Petrol station on Lahbab Round About. GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/akLQg3HebCq Level of drive: Newbie/Fewbie Plan: Drive followed by breakfast. What to bring along: Breakfast, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time : 11 AM Note : Drive level can be changed if we have beginners in the desert to suit the level of the convoy.
  3. Hi Annie, no cost involved, just bring your smiles, enthusiasm, spirit of adventure and willingness to learn. Our doors are always open.
  4. Its a very new launch so I'm not sure, but it says as long as your profile is public and not private, any member can see your map. I guess it still needs to be creased out.
  5. Like, I wish I could love this. Amazing pics to sumarize a day full of excitmemt and absolutely amazing people, weather, breeze and everything else I can think of.
  6. Time for a trip report. Truly each and everyone who came out for the trip made my day absolutely amazing, so thank you each and every one. Mujtaba with his brother Mustafa, Carlos with his better half, Jason with his awesome ride, Srikumar with his smile and brilliant enthusiasm, Joseph and Shills for joining me and giving me excellent company and last but not the least Gaurav bhai to give us the platform in the way of Carnity to have such a wonderful experience and for the amazing breakfast. We met sharp at 7:30 am and we're soon on our way to the deflation point after a quick introduction. As we deflated and had a short session to discuss the intricacies of driving in the sand, the equipment required and the plan for the day. We started of with some tracks and slowly headed to slightly medium dunes with some sharp drops. Everybody managed well and it was my first newbie trip where everybody followed my advise exactly as briefed. What a lovely bunch. As planned and on time we approached the Fossil Rocks, we stopped for a briefing, followed by engines roaring and all of us soaring all the way to the top. Everybody made it on first go which kind of pits me in doubt about it being there first time. Now we had a steep fall and thus everybody was briefed again and we all headed down safely. As some people were parachuting one guy invited us to join. As soon as I stopped Shills got out and started running, when Joseph asked her where she was going, she replied he asked us to jump with him. We had to convince her that she could do it next time and we headed for a well deserved break. We found a little shade and settled down to devour the breakfast. As we all are the question came up, are you done or so you want to continue, not a majority, rather everyone didn't want the trip to end, so we packed up and headed for the second phase of our drive. Some technical dunes and down from the pile on track to Faya. There was 30 minutes of play time. What surprised me for newbies everyone reached the top of Faya which is difficult for a lot of people. My hats off to all for such wonderfully spirited people. Close to Friday prayers time and we came down and drive to the closest mosque. After which we headed out to the closest pump and filled in air and feasted on some cold drinks. In the beginning of the drive I had promised one deserving driver to a deflator, judge was Gaurav bhai. He picked up 2 people, Carlos and Jason, since Carlos had left the deflator was rightfully handed over to Jason who managed very well throughout and lost only half a front bumper lip. All in all a wonderful day with a lot of amazing moments and memories to take back. Please share all pics, clicks and videos which would further give everyone the feel of what an excellent day out we had.
  7. @amid Ouch buddy, that hurts. I am an ex-owner of a Land Rover Discovery which was a 1998 model,Gaurav Bhai was an owner of a Range Rover, and @desertdude is a firm believer of the Land Rover brand, none of us are rich brats. We all worked very hard and bought our Land Rovers and as I know we always shared and we still do, whether it is the experience, information or the bread on our plates. BTW, this app can be downloaded and used by anyone for free, I have just downloaded it and it is very simple to use. I will test it out on the newbie drive tomorrow and further update you guys.
  8. Thanks for joining Joseph, your name has been added to the main list on the first post.
  9. Good to know you are still there @harryd. Hope this thread has given you some ideas about which ride to go for. Please do not hesitate to discuss further if any questions arise in your mind. For safety reasons you might not want to go with a Daihatsu Terios or Suzuki Jimny although they would be very frugal on fuel.
  10. Thanks @Barry, I will bring my ride one of these days and you can check what the other guy was complaining about, as he said it was not 16 pins and none of the 4 adapters he tried fixed with my connector.
  11. Its a date @Barry, I love masala dosa too.
  12. @Barry Honestly this is the first time I saw anything made of glass, I had no clue there were glass spark plugs, would like to see ad learn though.
  13. So @Barry this is your assumption, well in a few years time when the problems arise you can always tell us..."I told you so"
  14. @harryd disappeared, who are we giving our advise to?
  15. @taqir Shukar Alhamdolillah, I have been driving off-road for over 10 years and I have driven a Jeep Commander 5.7 Hemi everywhere and not had a roll-over yet. Just having power to know you can do certain things does not mean you will try some manoevre which will end up in fatality. Shukar Alhamdolillah the club I drove with taught me safety above everything else, it is instilled in me from day one and I have stuck to that to date. From my point of view in these 10 years I look and learn even from those who have just started off-roading and I believe and support fear. Fear is a reality check, if I fear something means it is not the safest path to take, sometimes you need to come over your fear and only than you will grow. At other times you need to realize your fear and take a different track, in the desert there is always more than one way to reach from point A to point B. In these 10 years of off-roading I have learned what I can do and my car can do, and I try to keep within my limits. I have always down graded to challenge my self to do better as a driver and not depend on the raw power of the car only. From a Jeep Commander 5.7 Hemi I had downgraded to a Land Rover Discovery 3.9 V8, to now a Nissan Pathfinder 3.0 V6. i hope I can continue with my clean record and do not experience a roll over, and just having a powerful vehicle does not mean it will result in a roll-over. Some times its just luck, or sometimes a little indecision or lapse of concentration, and sometimes it is due to the fact that you try to show-off and try to do something you normally wouldn't. I will have my chicken roll with the green sauce please.
  16. I will have a chicken tikka roll please.
  17. That's amazing, thanks for sharing @hAwX It would be amazing to have that 3.5 liter engine under the hood of my Pathy, it will just fly over the dunes all the way to the moon.
  18. Awesome video, thanks for sharing @ameen
  19. Wow. This morning I heard on the radio that Land Rover has introduced a mobile app for off-road enthusiasts to share their off-road experiences and adventures. To know more you may go to the below link. I will be going through the app and share my experience using this app, anybody else interested my post their views here regarding this new app. http://live.landrover-me.com/2016/03/03/land-rover-launches-first-social-mobile-application-for-regions-off-road-enthusiasts/
  20. Dear Srikumar, most welcome, your name has been added to the main list on the first post.
  21. Don't worry @brendan we will have a tougher drive for you in shortly.
  22. I don't need the OBD II reader right now, but wanted to get it fixed if required, just in case the need arises. However what would interest me is if there is an adapter with Barry that might fit my Pathy.
  23. Dear All, Last time I had some timing issue with my Nissan Pathfinder 2001, R50 and the garage people wanted to make the readings on the OBD II reader, but they were unable to connect due to the connector cable not being compatible. They tried bring about 4 adapters but none of them worked. Anybody has any experience or ideas as to how I can get the adapter or a connector cable to be replaced which will solve this issue. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  24. Thrilled to have you on board Jason, looking forward to seeing you on Friday.
