@Desert Dweller, I have noticed the people who come in for any reason except for driving in the sands are the adventurers who get caught this deep in this amazing sport. I myself came to learn a few tips and tricks and look at me now. @Srikumar just wanted an activity to get him away from the daily stress and he is the most involved. I am guessing you came here to just learn a few tricks for your expeditions, however you have managed to buy a beautiful X, sorry i forgot his name, Jawaher's boyfriend. Learned all you had to, but dug in deeper to understand this sport better, and now you are addicted to the sands just like the rest of us. Correct me if I am wrong. Congratulations on being one step closer to being a Marshal. Proud to have such a fantastic member on the team.

@amro elshafey being a 2016 model is your VW still in warranty. If it is under warranty, have you checked with Al Naboodah if they will honour the warranty even after you make any mods on it. I am sure @Barry, @treks, @desertdude and many of the experts can suggest where you can obtain and install them safely. One of our experts @Asif Hussain even managed to get the raw material and make his own coil spring spacers for his Ford Truck, maybe he can help you design your own and save you some bucks for some other project. i had long r=time back done this on my Jeep Commander, however without a proper lift kit it does change the dynamics of the car and you need to be very careful. I suggest you go out 1 inch with your wheels for every 2 inch lift, this means the tires should be out of the body of the car which means RTA will not pass the car till you put fender flares which give it the look that the wheels are still within the body of the car and not protruding outwards. Just a little advise from my understanding and experiences.

Welcome to the COVID 19 "new normal" lifestyle with restrictions and precautions for everyone safety. Moving forward and respecting authorities guidance all desert drives will be done under strict control. No Gathering | No Briefing | No BBQ | No Eating Together | No Touching | No Hugging MUST READ: Not following these rules and precautions = Not allowed to drive. We are only allowed to drive through the desert, as we are driving on the road now. So we will only do the desert driving just by sitting inside our cars at all the times and leave the drive without socializing or coming close to each other. Just like before we like to continue our desert drives through out the year, but this time we need your immense support to understand the strict control and to help everyone follow them all the time. For members who are fasting, they can break their fast discreetly and convoy will be stopped during that time and until they offer their prayer. How to maintain "STRICT" Social Distancing Meeting point will be set slightly (100m - 200m) inside the desert track. So, that you individually deflate your tires on the tarmac before reaching the meeting point. While deflating tires, stop cars 10 meters away from any other car. Drive signup on calendar will be closed on Thursday morning by 9 AM. Convoy numbering and briefing will be posted here on this drive post before 6 PM on Thursday. All participants need to read & acknowledge the briefing by clicking "Totally Agree" reaction Switch on your radio when you reach the meeting point on the set frequency advised by the trip lead in the critical briefing here. Once everyone reach to the meeting point, everyone stay inside the car at all the times. Trip lead will do the roll call, convoy numbering recap, critical briefing over the radio. Any suggestions or issues will be discussed over the radio too. You can also speak to other members through the radio only. So please make sure that your radio battery is fully charged. Once all set, trip lead will start the drive as before. Refusal and Recoveries with Social Distancing Every drive will have 1 lead Marshal and 1 or 2 supporting senior members/crew. Whenever there is a stuck or refusal, only Marshal / Senior Member / Crew is allowed to handle the situation. Everyone else including the stuck car driver, stay inside the car - AT ALL TIMES. Marshal / Senior Member / Crew is only allowed to step out to access the situation and do the recoveries: They will wear mask and gloves at all times when they are outside their car. They will try to help self recover through the radio guidance. If not they will use required recovery gear and do the needful (shovel, tug or winch, as required). If at any time Marshal require help, then only you are allowed to step out by wearing face mask and gloves at all times. Drive completion and inflation Now, there will not be any gathering or sitting down together for food-break like before. Once drive is finished, after reaching the tarmac, everyone is requested to move away 50-100 meters before starting their inflation. For drivers having no compressor, can head to the near by fuel station. If drive is ending at a place where there is no fuel station near by, then trip lead will inform in advance so that drivers having their own compressor can join only. Now Strictly no more sharing of compressors, radio, shovel or any recovery gear, at any times. Mandatory things you require to attend the drive Face mask - at least TWO face mask is needed in case one get damage or fly away. Disposable rubber gloves - at least two sets are needed. Wear face mask and gloves at all the times, when you are out of your car. Carry plenty of hand sanitizer and object sanitizer (spray). Use your sanitizers generously, whenever you step out to help or recover. Sanitize your hands before getting back into your car. Sanitize your recovery gears, if you have used them. Fully charged radio - without any excuse - No radio = No drive. Shovel - Must for every car, to do little self recovery Safety flag - Must for every car, like before Compressor - If joining the drives that is ending far from the fuel station. Mandatory precaution that you need to take at all times Do not step out of your car UNLESS/OTHERWISE advice by Marshal / Senior Member / Crew. No shaking hands, hugs or touching each other. No sharing of food, drinks or recovery tools. If you are not feeling well, please stay at home and take a lot of rest. If you have travel in last 14 days, then please do not attend this drive. If you feel unwell during the drive, please let trip lead know so he can plan an early exit. Not more than 3 pax in a car and if all 3 aren't living together, then they should wear the mask inside the car too. Drive Details Level: Newbie and above - All Level When: 12 Jun 2020, Friday. I would recommend that we are all responsible and should bring any such behaviour to the knowledge of the seniors on the drive. We can each take that responsibility as a community to guide and help each other understand these points. At times some seniors might be busy with a recovery and some people escape coming out to stretch or smoke and as a habit socialise without understanding the dangers. Everybody should take this as their responsibility to point anybody out who is not following these rules. Only with every bodies support can we achieve a 100% safe drive for all. the seniors are always there to take care of 99% of problems, but this one Covid19 restriction the whole community has to fight it together. @Rinelle Sanaani you are on the right track and it takes years of practice along with some sand reading to perfect your every move. You are on track and making good progress. Surely you can experiment with gears manually now that you are more aware of the surroundings and manage yourself very well, we are there to support you always if things don't go the way you plan. You are also in luck as we are coming up with something for those who would like to learn in detail, you will see it announced soon on the forums and we are expecting a lot of excitement and developing interested members in a more comprehensive way. Glass is half empty or half full, saw you on Friday and from where I am standing it seems your glass is half full and with your great attitude you are going to achieve it sooner rather than later. Having said that sooner is not like in 1 week or next month, but you are well on course as per my understanding so far.

All great points, however @Frederic I can understand your point for people like us who run clutch fans, upping the revs the higher the speed of the fan, but what about those cars using electric fans?

Trip Report. Firstly I hope all is well with you @Lorenzo Candelpergher, we all missed you and please let any one of us know if we can be of any assistance to you and your family. Our thoughts are with you and your family during your trying times. @Jorge Stepniak Felippe hope your right hand is feeling better and looking forward to driving with you soon. With the start of the summer and with the Covid19 restrictions in place and dynamic as required by each Emirates, it is always a difficult decision on which drive I want to support. This week it was made easier for me as @Xaf had a training session which allowed me to sneak in to support @Emmanuel drive. This happened after quite some time and I was well behind our Original Velociraptor. Although I understand that the drives nowadays are hotter than the climate and are full before you know it, but once you sign up there is enough time to go through the main post and make notes of the requirements well in time. All information is given on the main post and on Thursday the convoy numbering and radio channel to be used is also given. If you are unable to make mental notes, please grab a pen and a paper and make the notes for your self. Where is the meeting point? What kind of drive level to expect? Time? What is required of you for each drive, deflation at or close to meeting point? It is also paramount responsibility for everybody in the group to read, understand and apply all the safety rules and regulations laid out by the government for us, this is also highlighted by Carnity to give clarity how and where these apply to us to be able to continue our weekly drives without being pulled out or fined by the authorities. Carnity has taken a bold step to bring these drives for you following the guidelines in these challenging times, we should take step to ensure we are aware and respect these guidelines. After deflation we got into our positions, @Emmanuel in the lead, @Desert Dweller in second lead, @Szymon Stankiewicz in third, @Jolly Abraham fourth, @Vanessa8580 centre forward, @J J, @Lucky sAm, @Shamil, @Najeeb Mohammed, @Rinelle Sanaani and swept by me. As we raced around 7 kilometres along a rough track to get to our preferred set of dunes we had to take a stop for one of us to deflate. Once deflation was completed we were off to a lovely but slightly difficult set of dunes. Being in a Fewbie drive it was perfect to have a feel and adjust our driving styles to match the terrain. Very quickly @Najeeb Mohammed realised how much easier it becomes when you deflate by 1 PSI, he started on 13 PSI and within 10 minutes deflated further to 12 PSI. After this 1 PSI he looked much more settled. I was please with what I saw from @Desert Dweller who has come a long way and feeling more confident with her X. The stars for this drive for me were both @Szymon Stankiewicz and @Jolly Abraham who were driving the most under powered vehicles in the group but did not let any dune in their way. @Vanessa8580 was the life of the party with her spirits as high as the temperatures out there and amazed me at how well she knew and could handle her Big Blue, watch her drive was a treat. So yes, girl power all the way, very pleased to see the enthusiasm and the way they have absorbed the knowledge around and how they use this knowledge to help everybody around. True community. @J J seems to enjoy the space he is in at the moment and the short video posted gives such a beautiful sight to our drive. Thank you. What should I say about @Lucky sAm, he is so confident at this level of drive and really knows when to push his machine and it is a wonderful feeling to see that monster tear the dunes, I am talking about his Y62. @Shamil has improved over time and is becoming every bit of an off-roader you would expect, he is very keen to help and always out there to assist in any way he can, Having said that there is still room for improvement, but he has proved earlier that once he sets his mind he is focused and comes on top as a winner. Unfortunately for him he tried to give way to others by backing up straight in to a pocket on this drive. @Najeeb Mohammed discovered the magic of the FJ after just 1 PSI extra deflation and may have even surprised himself on some of those soft melting dunes. @Rinelle Sanaani is a sweetheart and has followed the tracks set by the vehicles in front of him and reacted very well to the situations presented during the tough times. He has also followed instructions as and when required. He has look forward to advise at times but does not voice it till noticed by someone and approach him if help is required, like backing up when unsure. Good thing is when advise given he has followed it to the finest and come out of the situation by visualising what the Marshal is trying to convey to him. All good traits but would like him to be more vocal whether he needs and advise or wants to discuss anything regarding off-roading, we are all here to help and learn from each other. Due to @Shamil being stuck in the pocket, @Emmanuel came back to the rescue, but looking at the time and deciding a winch would be nice with @Gaurav bhai not far from us, @Emmanuel decided to drive the rest of the convoy out and bring in the help in the form of @Gaurav bhai. We had time to think, reflect and try, but not to hard so that we do not make it any tougher than it already was. As we continued to dig, take rest and than dig some more, I saw a light which later turned out to be the moon in all its beauty and bright. Finally the welcome lights heading towards us signalled the arrival of the heroes we awaited. Even after night fall the area was not so easy to negotiate, so they had to come around which took about 2 minutes extra but saved us a lot of soft sand pits. Quickly the calculators were out making calculations to the finest fraction, the all might winch was released to go to work, and with great accuracy every inch was conquered. The situation was so grave that we had to change the angle 3 times until we could claim victory. Alas the hard work was done and the smiles around showed that with precision team work we can manage any obstacles. As we headed out we noticed that with Sharjah curfew starting at 10 pm it would be most critical for me to reach home in time. One request from @Gaurav bhai and each of my tires was being inflated by everyone left behind. In less than 5 minutes I was on the road and racing, but the 10 pm curfew was already in place. I tried to relax for the entire drive back home knowing Dubai curfew started at 11 pm, however the last 10 minutes as I entered Sharjah territory were nerve wrecking. I crossed 3 Police Vehicles on the way and let 1 drive in front of me till it disappeared, Being late parking was also not easy to find as I saw a Police vehicle take a U-turn from a distance and head towards me. I just parked my car in the first rough spot I saw and sneaked away in to the shadows as the Police vehicle crossed me and ran home. What an experience. Strange times, strange fears, strange restrictions, but this experience teaches me to be more hands on and time conscious during these scary times. @amro elshafey any newbie drive is a bit challenging for any new participants, however you always have to overcome your fear to grow within this sport. Although front and rear tow screw is not recommended for desert drives, you need proper recovery tow hooks installed which are securely bolted on to the chassis of the car. Most online videos are shot keeping in mind that they need to sell these cars to some people who want to opt to take it off-road. Let me warn you in advance, if the car is expensive it might hurt you if even a scratch comes on your car. However if you have a second car and this is your spare car it might be little less hurtful to you. Although our newbie drives are meant to be for new people in the desert to get a feel and learn, but with less than 10 inch clearance it is always going to be dicey. Your choice and @Gaurav will be the deciding factor as he is the trip lead.

@Jun Zamora, depends on your speed and revs, never allow your revs to go below 4000, you need to shift down, try 2nd gear, if close to 4000 revs shift to 1. Once you reach the peak and are on plain surface go back to D as you don't want to continue on 1st gear throughout your trip. Practice will make perfect.

@amro elshafey I doubt you have a 19 inch clearance, can you please confirm if you have made any modifications to your vehicle? Please also advise if your VW Toureg is has the proper 4 high and 4 Low gear selection, or is it an All Wheel Drive, or has one of those knobs to decide what the vehicle is going to do.

@syed salman raza well done. Definitely a great job to have it all ready before the drive. However I would not trust the settings done by the shops at DM, I would rather you follow the instructions as mentioned by Fred in his topic below and do it yourself to make sure you get the channels as per Carnity frequencies.

I used to see them a lot in Dubai back in the late 80's and early 90's, I think Juma Al Majid had the agency, but for some reason they just disappeared. BTW some people also told me that they loved the Ssangyong Kyron, it was a Korean or Chinese brand which borrowed its engine and other components from Mercedes.

I had seen this vehicle back in Feb 2017 in Media city and checked with @Gaurav bhai who told me all about it. It is bare bone without any creature comfort and what confused me about it was having a petrol filler on both sides. This was also answered by @Gaurav bhai who told me so that they can fill the petrol of either side. How cool is that?
