I am from Karachi Pakistan. Current UAE price is Petrol 2.12 per litre Diesel 2.38 per litre This is an average. Sources may vary In my place we are paying PKR 117 per litre (2.75 AED) for petrol. Diesel is PKR 125 (2.80) per litre. The premium petrol in Karachi is Octane 93 and not Octane 95 like UAE.

I will admit it does look eye catching. Also this electric vehicle is catching up on me, but the technology with the batteries and charging is still a long way to go.

I bought the Disco for AED 7500. Had to change the engine for about AED 4500 and gear for AED 900 besides having to change the engine and gear mounts for about AED 250 a couple of times and replaced all the seals twice before giving up on all the leaks. Besides that had to change the fuel tank once and fuel pump. Overall over 5 years I had it I spent about AED 15 k and got back only AED 4500 when I sold it. So cost me over 10500 over a 5 year ownership. Compared to the Civic where I spent AED 23075 and sold for 15k so cost me AED 8075 over 5 years. I bought the Pathy for AED 10k spent AED 4k recently for engine, gear is already a question mark now which should cost me another AED 2k and other bushing and stuff where I've spent over AED 8k including AC rebuild cost. So already way over AED 20k spent and haven't tried selling it yet. But I doubt I'll be able to sell it anywhere close to AED 20k to beat the Civic of the old.

My first car was my cheapest. Honda Civic 1991 DX. Bought it in 1994 at AED23000, besides normal wear and tear like brakes and oil and filter change, just had to replace the fuel pump. This costed me AED 75 as I did it myself, just had to buy the part. After 4 years sold it at AED 15000 which I think was a fair deal.

Never going to go looking for a rare bargain. As @Shamil pointed out expensive to maintain and difficult to resell with peanuts in return. Always going to buy the popular ones at a slightly higher price if necessary. If I win a million this thought process is subject to change.

For 2020 I plan to try and keep my job so that I can keep my Pathy, however might have to look into my gear rebuild at some point. This will not be a mod and no options for me, just waiting for it to give up on me completely.

@Gaurav bhai I totally agree with your method, but with a rear wheel drive I've noriced the steering left and right does not help as much as there is no power in the front wheels to move the sand. Even felt it this Friday with the Native not engaging in 4x4. No disrespect but normally for such wise people I leave them to their own device. Only once I helped a Tiida that tried some off roading and that too a cop. I got it in writhing from him that he is responsible for any damage caused while trying to pull him 400 metres out of some soft sand. Than I made sure his front bumper came off to teach him a lesson.

OMG @Wrangeld you just tickle all my senses with your eloquently written trip feedback. Feel like I could read couple of pages more and keep waiting for your next write up. I am impressed with what the Porshe 918 can manage with their hybrid, wouldnt mind if the Jeep can achieve similar results with offroad application.

Many thanks to @Shamil for getting the fire wood and playing his beautiful guitar to sooth the moment. Loved eveyones company, thanks to all who managed to join.

Trip report from my eyes. Firstly I was really looking forward to this drive as Sweihan visit was long due for me. The second thing that got me excited was @Asif Hussain got in touch with me to join along which is always a pleasure. I left on time from home and reached the nearby Masjid in good time to offer my Friday prayers. It took me exactly 3 minutes to reach our hero @Emmanuel who was about to take us through the thrilling sands of Sweihan. Everyone soon joined us with @Xaf, @Fuad and @Shamilto head off to the wilderness. On the way we dropped @Asif Hussain car on the way and he finally joined me for what was going to be a brilliant day out. After a very short but useful briefing and deflation we set off in the dunes. For most of the parts it was fairly clean and we had a few virgin dunes. The thing that excites me about this place is although you have long range clean dunes which you feel you can play in forever, it does come with a word of caution as the sand formation here is very much different compared to the dunes in the sand box. Just when you think you have a nice firm patch you will come across a soft one, and sometime what looks like a soft patch turns out to be hard. Since the drivers were very capable we hardly had any down time, except for a pop-out for @Xaf, but thanks to @Shamil and @Emmanuel we were able to fix the pop-out within no time. The only other stoppage I remember came when @Fuad Pathfinder would not race, but he knew exactly where the problem was and again with @Shamil offering help through his toolbox and @Asif Hussain cleverly using the available tools we were moving within no time at all. So a big hand to all who kept the convoy moving at a good pace. The only stuck we had was a third party driving a Nissan Patrol who did not believe in deflating. Funny response as I asked him about deflation and his reply was but they are balloon tires. @Emmanuel was gracious to lend his rope to them as the other truck guy jerked the life out of the Patrol to get it out and moving again, in this episode I feel sorry for the rope. The place was full of Nissan Patrols flying around with a few Land Cruisers and the raped up dunes around made us feel it was not for us. As we moved from there we had a sharp decline and 4 Low 1st gear was our call for the moment. As everyone headed down my passenger had gone missing and after shouting around like a fool for @Asif Hussain I was informed that he had snooped the ride down with another car. As I made my way down it was time to head out as the sun was going down, we again came through a nice patch of dunes however the sun at this time was in our eyes making the dunes difficult to read. As we sat around with the snacks and 3 different flavours of tea, we were spoilt for choice by the many selection of food and drinks. As we finished and packed up to leave we headed out, @Fuad was the happiest from the bunch as he was closest to his place. After inflation we set off, however I got a bit lost and thanks to @Asif Hussain sense of direction and reading the map well we ended up driving a long stretch of a gauge road before seeing signs of the tarmac. One on the road I dropped @Asif Hussain to his car with a last cup of tea we promised to meet each other soon and parted our ways. Many thanks to @Emmanuel for a fantastic day out.

@Chirag S. this thread is for the newer people to identify and have a chance to learn from someone else mistake. The intention is for newer people to understand and not repeat the same mistake when they are in the desert. Go through the video again and see the reason for him slowing down. Please also pay attention to the load tied in at the back of the truck. You'll be amazed how many new things you can pick up every time you go through a video. Have to be patient and have to keep looking to find out what actually went wrong.

@desertdude, I love my gearbox, as you quoted from the other forum that this issue will just mean that I have to start in D1 first and nothing more will get broken due to this. So do I drive it a bit longer till the car comes to a standstill and than go for a rebuild?
