In my opinion the gearing is a bigger issue in the automatic Pajero than power. With the Omani Hack if you can sort out holding the lower gears at higher revs that is going to improve the performance.

@Shamil rightly we will try to end the drive between 3 - 3:30 AM. By the time we finish Suhoor and Fair prayers by 4:30 AM and than we could just have a little rest or drive depending on everyone's choice and depart. However you can leave after 4:30 AM if you like, we will be close to the road.

Time flies. It seems just a few drives back we were doing Ramadan night drives and its once again that time of the year again. So I am pleased to post the first night Suhoor drive for 2019. Plan is to have an easy relaxed newbie night drive from Tawi Nizwa to Pink rock area or Bidayer if everyone manages well. It's a perfect drive for newbies and fewbies to learn in the best terrain that gradually transforms and offers plenty of opportunities to learn and play. In the end, we will settle down in a good spot to have Suhoor before the dawn and return to tarmac before the sunrise. When: 9 May 2019, Thursday Meeting time: 11:00 PM, the convoy will move sharply at 11:15 PM Where: Tawi Nizwa Shops GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/yYkFvPBzW3U2 Level of drive: Newbie - Fewbie - All are welcome except for Absolute Newbies. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive, train and enjoy until about 3 AM, settle down have Suhoor and exit by 6 AM What to bring along: Loads of snacks, Suhoor meal, plenty of water - whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. All the fewbie drivers are requested to share their feedback for their first fewbie drive after the promotion: Have you felt the difference between the newbie and fewbie level drive? How did the Newbie level briefing and training help you to develop your skill sets for the Fewbie level? Do you think 5 number of newbie drives was sufficient for you to be ready for fewbie level? Do you think it was necessary to attend newbie drives first to gain appropriate skills and confidence? Which part (side sloping/ridge riding/crisscrossing) have you enjoyed the most in your first fewbie level drive? Did you learn something new at the Fewbie level or only bettered the skills you learned at the Newbie level? Any other comments you feel will help us to develop the new offroaders in a better way? Crazy, my brother has installed a valve when closed there is no noise, the cop stopped him because of the mods. He even spoke to the captain at the police station but he was even worse and no right response. Just leave your car and go.

Trip report - truly speaking I was expecting weather to be hot, but was pleasantly surprised with the cool breeze that kept it comfortable for us. It was great to see so many enthusiastic participants with @Ahmed Azmy being the first on the scene. We moved on time and after the Newbie brief we deflated and took off. Unfortunately @Tobias93 has to exit. @Gaurav in lead, with @ace1988 in second lead followed by @Ahmed Azmy, @Faisal sayed, @Mikhail Lukichev, @luwaimn and myself in sweep. As expected we had a few stucks and refusals which we handled pretty well and kept the convoy moving. Close to sunset we reached our play ground and everybody enjoyed side slopping. After a long and hard play time we met up with the Fewbie convoy and headed to the top of Fossil Rocks. Driving around it and coming to our spot for refreshments. Most of them left but left behind were the few who offered brilliant company. @eduardo along with his beautiful and intelligent wife. Dr @Ahmed Azmy the story teller, @yogic72. Before we knew it was past midnight. We too decided to head out, inflate our tires and head home. @Srikumar thank you for the brownies it was the best. Yes, he has kept it in mint condition and kept on modifying it. Offense is noise, but when he told the cop he was not revving and driving quietly the cop said it was modified and to leave the car at the station.

My brother was caught last night passing Sharjah in his Lumina SS. He was driving as quietly as possible, no revving a police car came out of no where and stopped him. 6 months confestification. Not fair, not revving the engine just driving at low revs. Just because his car is modified.

I love nature, if it's not hot you would not appreciate cold, and without extreme cold you'll fail to appreciate heat. It takes all kinds to make this world worth living in.

@Jas Gajaria it was wonderful reading your thoughts, my feelings exactly. Can't wait to drive with you, it will be an honour. I had the LR Disco 1 for 5 years and it taught me a lot. BTW I was there when @desertdude was chasing Championdada in his Jeep Wrangler YJ and it just goes to show how a good driver can make the difference. I had an instance when a guy shouted out which is the best 4x4. Turns out most people responded Wrangler. He bought one for AED 60k. Next he asked what are the best mods. I told him at least step in sand first and than decide what you think lacks and apply the necessary mods. But he listened to everyone else and spend another AED 60k to make it look like a monster from moon. AED 120k spent he came for a Newbie drive and after 2 small dunes decided this was not the thing for him. He tried to sell his ride, but no one pays for mods, so he was stuck with a monster created by him which never fetched him anything close to what he had spent. So conclusion, just make the best of what you have and if the sand bug bites you, you'll make any 4x4 rock your way. Don't go by the reviews of a biased old fart who can complain about anything and everything.

OMG @Boney John too much Pajero for 1 day. Any instructions on how to order these parts and how much they would cost.

For the gearing issue there is some Omani fix which @eduardo had mentioned on the last drive. Maybe he can guide us better.

Funny a Jeep guy promoting a PF and Xterra.

Due to gearing issues with Pajero pre 2014 models, I would recommend any model after 2014. SWB your 20% family outing goes out of the window, only good for off-road and daily commuter. But if you are going to invest so much, better to keep an eye on the Xterra as well. I recently saw one from a first owner for AED 18k.
