  1. Forgot this one, changing front brake pads. Your pushing back the piston when you remember you did not remove the master cylinder cap.. Pouring the best part of oil into the filler cap and someone distracts you and the rest of the oil misses the filler cap and lubricates the exhaust manifold. Happy days.
  2. @Barry guess its a bad day! You could mention dropping a spanner or a screwdriver when your working over a pit or on a ramp. And the other one is climbing onto the ramp and forgetting to bring that socket. Removing the gearbox and it jams against some small object and the gear oil runs down your to arm pits. Working on your back and debris falling into your hair and eyes. And finally, the moving rocker gasket..! You have cleaned everything, greased the gasket into place onto the rocker lid and you slowly move the lid into place avoiding all the cables and other obstructions, start the bolts and check all is good. Tighten all the bolts and start the engine with a smile, that's until you see the leaking oil....!!! Start again..
  3. Dear OP, sincere apologies for causing you any confusion. Please allow me to offer you a link which explains the terminology. http://www.sierragear.com/wp-content/uploads/Differential-Installation-Instructions-WebVersion.pdf
  4. Morning @Gaurav do you want a basic dash-cam or a dash-cam you can use for off road. I'm back in Dubai this weekend, give me a call Friday or Saturday to have a chat,
  5. @Barry I have that T-shirt. For my sins I took a job in Southern China in 1993. Teaching the up and coming mechanics how to repair luxury cars. That was painful... However the pain was nothing after watching the older mechanics destroying aluminium blocks when the thread pulled out. Simple they said, drill it and re-tap a new thread.... Yes. Did it work, No...
  6. Back-lash, is straight forward, but "Pinion height", how many people understand how to adjust that?
  7. I bought a good one a couple of years ago in Dubai. Had a problem at first with the memory card, but once that was sorted, it worked a treat. Don't have the brand name with me, however I'm back in Dubai this weekend and I will look it up and post the details. Also, I would take @Barry advice and buy two. I have been rammed in the back four times.
  8. @Rahimdad, Its not often to hear praise for us mechanics who have learnt our trade. I hope I speak for my fellow tradesmen in saying "Many thanks." @Rahimdad and also to @shadow79 for his diligence and professionalism.
  9. @shadow79 it takes time to clean a dirty engine or cooling system/radiator. That is not none of my favorite jobs, reminds me of Groundhog Day!!
  10. @desertdude So many stories, when I was an apprentice a young chap like myself was told to top up the gear box with oil by his mechanic. This he did, and then proudly announced to the mechanic the job was done. He then told his mechanic he had, refitted the gearbox selector mechanism, the selector housing and finally reconnected the gear lever assembly. The mechanic's jaw hit the floor..... You guessed it !! The young chap had stripped off the top of the gearbox to make sure it was full. And a nine speed Eaton box takes a lot of oil.
  11. Wow @treks that's a complete rebuild. Understand where your coming from. If the engine was running and no serious knocks, the customer may of had a lucky break. However if the engine is cooked then its a blanket repair. Agree with you 100%
  12. Rip the lump out, strip the engine and drop it into a paraffin bath for a couple of days. Take the engine out of the bath, don your goggles and protective clobber and get busy with an air blower. Good luck comes to mind.
  13. Another on the plus side, glad I'm not cleaning that mess...
  14. @Rahimdad here is the beast as I was dismantling before the body shop.
  15. @desertdude I will follow your advice with the D1 linkage. Plus have the airbags & three amigos isolated.
  16. Rahimdad, your welcome. I bought the Ram over four years ago and I have not been off-road with the beast because of my job. I'm normally away from Dubai for weeks at a time. As soon as the beast is painted and legal I'm out for a night drive with you guys to see how the truck performs. Disco 2, is a recent purchase so I will need to check if it has traction control or central diff-lock. If it has traction control I assume I could switch off the traction control/ABS and fit the controls for the central diff-lock. Another project..!
  17. Rahimdad, as soon as the truck is painted and legal again (Long wheel base Ram 1500, Twin Cab Pickup) you can have a drive to see if you catch the bug
  18. Folks, I believe the new compound location is Altay. From the E311 follow the D97. See attached map. I would assume its the timings as the old compound. If anyone has a chance to check it out before I return please advise as I need to repaint a car next month. Richard
  19. My pleasure. I'm out of the country until the end of August. When I return I will update the post. Richard
  20. Hi Folks, That location/office has closed now. Does anyone know where the new office is. I was told its near the By Pass Road, E611. Richard
  21. Sorry guys I'm out as I'm working in Egypt till December. What ever you plan, wish you all the best.
