  1. @Wrangeldthis was an oversight form my side, I should have not joined this drive as it is too early for me. My apologies please remove me. Thank you
  2. That sounds FUN! never been there I assume a link to rendezvous point will be shared.
  3. Thanks! It means a lot coming form you Mine is 2014. Definitely need to investigate. I have an appointment with mechanic next Saturday. In the meanwhile I will bring water.
  4. First and Foremost I would like to thank @@Janarthan for taking us to a fantastic place, @Foxtrot Oscar for her heartily laugh in any situation and @Nikifor generously spraying my transmission radiator when my tenperature was high. This was my first newbie drive and what a blast. I loved the more sustained pace and the extra challenge, which I am happy the car was able to handle. As for the driver I learned 1. You MUST be concentrated at all time. The 3 refusal I had came 2 in a moment when I was chatting with my wife. The third one shortly after we all congratulated ourselves for the ride before climbing the last hill. Lesson learn no more. 2. Keep your distance. While I believe I did well there I had one refusal when the car in front of me had a bit of difficulties ridging and I did not notice (distraction) so I had to stop in a spot where I could not go forward anymore. 3. I still need to tune in the momentum and acceleration when coming off ridges on the soft side. I had it right most of the time. I noticed that it is better when, instead of lifting completely the gas when momentum is sufficient you keep some throttle. This requires less initial momentum and to fine tune your feet. I have it in my brain now, I assume practice will melas me improve this sensitivity. 4. My transmission temperature acted up. Thanks all for the patience. This is the first time it happens. I am gonna have my car checked. 5. Climbing. I might be light, but my gear acts up when climbing in a way I have not figure out yet so I often change gear when I do not want to whether in full auto or tiptronic. I guess I will need to climb more. What I am happy to see, and my wife too, is that I never fought gravity and I manage to steer down before I feel the momentum is gone allowing me to safely point my front wheel down before is too late. 6. I am particularly happy with my instinct in one refusal where I could not ridge, right so I went left following gravity instead of fighting it. In all I self recovered in alll occasion. I am happy about the small MOD I made. I can see the lift and the tire make a difference in the newbie drives. One last word about tire pressure. I start my drives at 11, I finish above 12. Should I start at 10 (without having a pop up) as I decently noticed I tend to have more refusal toward the last third of the drives. Thanks all for the great drive and the patience with my transmission A special mention to our second lead, ready to climb mountains to land an Hand! @TT_Dubai P.S. I can freely share all the full res picture is anyone is interested.
  5. A picture says a 1000 Words. So I will start with the pictures of this beautiful ride. The words will come soon
  6. Hi everyone, looking forward to my 1st Newbie Drive! As a rule I like to make sure I know where the meeting point is. When I click the link a place called 2nd December Cafeteria comes up. Is that correct? Thank you
  7. Thanks all looking forward for more climbs, ridges and shavelling
  8. @Brettecan you please remind me where one applies for a level change? This was my 5th newbie drive and I am looking forward to some more steep dunes
  9. Thank you @Brette for leading the drive and safely expanding our boundaries. What I have learn today. 1. When traction control kicks in on a climb or on a ridge you loose momentum and you can only go where gravity takes you, down. Do not fight gravity Folks. 2. Tiptronic in my car is not quick like the imaginary Ferrari I have in my imaginary garage, so better get momentum in 2nd gear and keep car in second. During my 3rd failed attempt to climb in 1st gear, I also observed that, even in tiptronic, the car shift form 1st to 2nd after a while (probably when MAX RPM is reached). It does not do this when in 2nd. Maybe if you push it it does it, but for this particular dune, 2nd gear was the magic one. 3. When you have a refuse and need to climb down, go straight. You do not want to be parallel to the max inclination. Rolling is not fun, I hear. 4. Always check your traction control. For some reason the car put it back on without me noticing and I got a refusal because of that. All in all after my 5th newbie drive + 2 courses I hope I can join a newbie drive next week. I know know the lift and the skid plate can take a hit Thank you all.
  10. @Gaurav do you need to pass a check point and have a valid PCR for this ride?
  11. @Wrangeldthis was a very fun drive. It did feel more “technical” I am getting more comfortable with the car. This is my second drive with the modification (Lift and tires) A few learnings. 1. Started the drive at 11 psi ended at around 12.5. I believe this is a good pressure as I had only one small refusal because I did not get enough momentum on a pretty churned up sand. A quick reverse and more rev fixed the problem. 2. I love the fact that I have skid and trimmed bumper. No fear when crossing ridges or gong down. 3. I feel the benefit of the lift and new suspension when going down as the car feel steady and solid 4. I really enjoyed the parabolic on the bowl. I did much better than last week when I got a couple of refusal when i was silly to fight gravity 5. I will admit I drove for about an hour with the centre diff locked, but High Gear. The car felt really great in all honesty, but I understand in the long run this might fry the differential so I switched back to 4H. Looking forward to my 5th Newbie drive as I feel I am ready for a slightly less challenging drive. Thanks all for the great FUN and as usual I love the club where there is no rush or pressure and safety first
  12. @Gaurav I do apologise, but my wife had other plan for us and me showing up at this drive is not a good idea anymore. I hope I have not taken anyone's place. Thanks
  13. I am sorry I saw myself second in the list so I though that was the convoy position. I am too keen Sorry. As a matter of fact someone else should have that. I did it last week
  14. @Wrangeld I love this area, outside my comfort zone, but not too much. Excellent for some adrenaline and growth! Thanks for trusting me with 2nd Lead
  15. @Gaurav same here. I am in the morning Newbie, but I’d love to also do this night drive if possible at all.
  16. Hi, just to confirm that the Meeting point is Margham in the coordinates below I’d hate to find myself in the wrong spot 24°55'51.8"N 55°38'33.6"E https://goo.gl/maps/J8ANQqsgYVLnjTEn6 Thank you
  17. I had this in my last drive. I actually was in a soft spot and I saw 2 of the wheel go form green to no light and I clearly felt the same 2 wheel loosing traction. I engaged 4HLC and got out very easily. After I got unstuck the Center Diff light went Amber. I stopped. Re start the engine et voila’ Should I change the solenoid as a preventive measure? By the way what is a solenoid? Thank you
  18. Hi Felix, I am certainly glad you are OK. I joined only 2 months ago and I am only at my 3rd Newbie drive. In addition, I took a couple of courses and those were real fun. During the courses I could feel the culture of this club is all about safety first. During my first 3 drives, the Marshal cemented the feeling demonstrating nothing is more important than everyone safety. No one is pushing you and just like when you hike in the mountains, the group pace is defined by the slowest person without making anyone feel inadequate of guilty. I found in Carnity a fantastic environment to learn and grow, everyone at her own pace. I am now looking forward to learn form you as I am sure you have seen a few…. Cheers Enrico
  19. Dear all, Thanks to Brett and the leads in this drive for showing us something new today and what a drive! I really learn a few things today. 1. I am happy with my new AT tires. Climbing requires less momentum, as demonstrated by the little jump I performed off a small ridge. Unfortunately that was not captured on camera. Jumps are bad! 2. I happy with the new AT tires. You can rally feel the better grip and traction. 3. I deflated to 10 psi. That might be a bit too much. Will try 11 the next time as I ended the drive at up at 11 psi. I recon 11+ 1 = 12 should be good. 4. You need momentum when you try to use the dune as a parabolic curve. Without Momentum Gravity wins. (check the vide when I got a refusal) 5. I feel more secure when climbing and descending with the new tire, the lift and getting rid of the front bumper + skids. 6. I really like to drive along the ridges. It's kind of a roller coaster. 7. We experience some soft sand patches and those can be fun when you understand how to cope. They are also fun as they are challenging. What is still not clear. 1. Before today, I always drove in 4H. Today I tried 4HLC and I felt better when taking a parabolic curve and when steering hard. Is this only my impression or is there something to it in your experience? 2. I need to get better at riding the dune on the incline, gravity still wins a bit too much because I tend to try and point my front wheels up slightly to drift. Hope you enjoy the short movie
  20. Looking forward to my 3rd drive and especially experience the "improved" car... Thanks for allowing me to be the second lead as well. see you all tomorrow.
  21. I am not quite sure if it is for everyone. We really enjoyed as they have small Quad included in the price My daughter is 16 so she enjoyed the Quad and then we also rent a 1000 cc buggy which they let her drive sho she had ton of fun which made me very happy. There are plenty of land cruiser Safari who go around what seem pretty pre defined trails, but I am sure one could also explore the surroundings. The dome like tent you see briefly in the video have AC and are quite comfortable. It is very quiet, but alas they do not really switch off the light at night so the starry sky is not great, In summary we really enjoyed a first family desert experience because we do not have camping gear to go and really camp, but there are probably better places. Hope this helps https://thedunesuae.com
