Car makers the world over have been lying about fuel consumption figures since the car was invented. Even when they do make even halfway accurate claims, their figures are based on tests at sea level where the air is thicker.

The best way to get accurate figures is to visit car forums, and ask the people who actually own the car you are interested in how much fuel the vehicle uses based on town and highway driving conditions in the real world.

and with windows closed and AC off and mostly below 20 C climate and with winter tires (higher wall size offering longer distance per tire rotation and slime road touching surface offering lower fraction to the road surface and less power needed for speed and finally a lab certified fuel grade which is not available as fuel quality varies due to countries laws and availability and varies due to climate.

  2. I do agree with @gautam

however we can make a try to check the ATF condition first if it looks fine we can replace transmission filter and top-up oil level and run it on D on the workshop lift for 15 min. then make a test drive  and see

the issue is GM design depends much on oil pressure if we lose the pressure for bad torque converter or bad filter or low level oil we start to get indications if recover early we may avoid extra costs of replacing valve body and internal parts.

  3. Hi William

did you check Audi website and you need a clarification about it?

as Audi used to provide a high quality sound system the offer a higher grades on S-Line models including sync to mobile ohones and voice command and AUX and Audi Nav system and instrumentation on main screen for drive system and tire pressure and air conditioning system and view cams and park sensors all around.

please let us know what you need to know about.

  4. check the coolant age as it\f it's more than 3 or 4 years you need to replace it

Check the coolant pump pressure as the coolant is not circulating efficiently it would over heat faster than usual

check coolant thermostat (the therm-mechanical) as if it's not opening on specified temperature or opening partially it would over heat

and finally (worst case scenario) use a towel to squeeze water hose during over heat if it's sold and not flexible to be closed by hand pressure so you have a gas leak from cylinders heads to cooling jacket that would require replacing heads gaskets and some time surfacing the heads.

  5. We can't ignore Diesel prices Vs Petrol or mileage efficiency!!

Check Isuzu D-MAX and MU-X which is simply a 2.5 L 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine a re-marked Chevrolet Blazer and Savanna Pick up truck

which torque you think that you can get from this engine if you learn that it produce 136 HP only at 3,300 rpm?

I think you can pull a plain if you have the good gears!

also you can check Sang young Actyon pick up with Mercedes engine and transmission used earlier in 3 door G class (and still option to register it as a private car as dealer promised due to closed loading compartment) but still cheap and ugly option!

and the new ford ranger v6 engine (limited with automatic transmission)

and VW Amarok still outside the competition as 4 cylinder manual transmission with AWD option but Nissan Navara V6 can be registered as a private car.

@Saleem this is something I need to investigate further. If you have any useful links etc. I would appreciate very much.

I do know that in UK garages, nothing goes in the drain. All coolants, waste oils, brake fluid must be stored in bunded containers. Old rags, empty spray tins, used absorbant granules all go in their own container. Using sand or sawdust to soak up spills is a big no no. Old batteries go in a special sealed container. All containers etc. are collected by the recycling company once a month. For some things such as waste oil, batteries, you get money for recycling them. Other things such as coolant, rags etc. you have to pay to recycle them. The environmental agency carries out regular visits to ensure people are complying with the regulations.

The rules in scrapyards are even tougher. All yards must be fully concreted, draining into a receptor tank which separates oil and water from the runoff. Oil is emptied from the receptor and the clean water coming from the receptor is regularly tested for ph and contaminants. Any soil which has oil spilt on it must also be sent to the recycling centre. Even soil which has had plastic or tyres stored on it is classed as contaminated land. PCBs are also classed as hazardous waste so most scrapyards are not allowed to touch electrical equipment without a special licence. You also need another special licence to deal with fridges.

The environmental agency had the potential to cause a lot of headaches for me but i always did my best to ensure everything was kept legal. As long as you're making a genuine effort and not being an asshole about it, they will generally just tell you about any problems and give you a chance to rectify it. If you're an asshole, they just fine you first time and some of the fines have potential to bankrupt small businesses.

and you still able to make some old tricks!

  7. as coolant grades coded by colors (green, blue & red) the content and percentage of glycogen and minerals varies and used coolant contain lead and aluminum and other low percentage of heavy minerals in addition to engine oil traces which considered toxic to human, animals and plants so as per environmental standards and shall not be drained or spilled on soil.

so the process is very complicated comparing to sewerage water treatment however it's expected to be standard in Dubai , Abu Dhabi and Sharjah shortly as Dubai started early 2016 to enforce environmental protecting rules as collecting used lubricants and lubricants polluted fabrics and tissues and panning of using wood mushes on cleaning process at car workshops.

@barry can tell you more about extra costs for these polices.

Don't forget the vinegar. I'm told the organic variety works best.

and some spices with herbs and some green vegetables and we have a healthy green salad and next step to trade our oil burners with green hybrid cars LOL......

Good Luck with the green life...........Don't count on me I'm out burning oil and spiting fire!!   a piston head to the grave!!

  10. ford-volvo had a torque control system called "Torque Vectoring System" which adjust and justify wheels spinning around corners and drift mode just turn it off like ASC for BMW and ESP for VW-Audi and ABC for Mercedes and VSC for Toyota-Lexus-Nissan-Infinity

the problem remains with ford focus RS as a front wheel drive so with OEM car it can perform some tricks on corners with skilled driver but with drifting hand breaks (a hand break stick moving forward and backward to break one wheel only from the rear wheels) it can offer more with skilled driver.

  11. good luck with the Nissan

please note that all are the same except the drive mode "off road" trim includes diff lock and some times VSC (vehicle stability control an advanced ABS) while other trims don't have it

out side shape looks the same just look inside for the drive mode switch other than this all mechanically are the same some cars have extra options like steering control switches audio and cruise control, fog lights, wheel size and rear view cam.

Crankshafts never come into contact with the oil in standard sumps anyway, not because it affects horsepower, but because a rotating crankshaft whips the oil into a foam, much like a whisk beats air into cream to make it stiff. When this happens the oil pick up can't "lift" the oil out of the sump, which means that the engine is starved of lubrication.

The only lubricant which comes in contact with crank shaft is oil either by touching (dipping) in early old engines or by oil drips from engine head as it was the only way to spray oil below pistons (lower part from combustion chamber) before using sprinklers (with check valves and pressure control valves) even dry sump have a metal cover below crank shaft with leveled drain holes to keep a minimal level to lubricate crank.

when you mix vegetarian oil with air you can have a mayonnaise (and you still need to add an egg to the mix)

but mineral oil and synthetic would not make that foam unless it have water, sugar or egg!!

  13. the shining that you like can be reached by waxing which create a layer of soft surface of wax over the polish layer.

for my car I wax it yearly including headlights and taillights and windshields as if make surfaces soft so it doesn't become dirty fast and the rain drops slips fast over the body and windshields.

  14. Hi @Barry

for the transmission I think you may need to have a look over the transfer case (if the transmission suffered that much)

but what I need to ask you about that I can see the Profi-Car engine oil banner in the images so would you please evaluate it for us (Frankly would you use it in your own beloved car?)
