Insta 360 X4

HI, I just got my insta 360 x4 and used on skiing. However, the primary purpose of buying this camera was to use it the desert with my FJ. However, I have some question that people like @Looper and other insta360 owners might be able to help me with:

1) Delkin Fat Gecko: is double suction enough for fewbie to intermediate driving. The Double mount cost 275 AED on amazon however the Triple cost around 360 AED.

2) What app should you use for editing for youtube and such? And is it easier on Computer or Mobile? (I am aware that you have to edit the 360 footage with the Insta app, but after that, do you add effects and transitions with other apps or not?

3) Does the camera not overheat? On Insta's official website, they say that it is rated until 40C. Does anyone run into problems with this?

4) Finally, do you use a selfie stick on top of you mount or do you just run the selfie stick straight on the mount?

Sorry for bombarding you all with questions, and thank you in advance for the supportive answers I am sure you experts will provide me with!

1) 2 suction cups is fine if you not using the stick.. but you want as much suction as possible when adding the stick and it moving up and down. go with the 3 cup or get a mount that attaches to car through other means (bolt on)

2) i only use the insta app and only make short videos of up to a minute or so.

3) it does overheat. Do not use HDR mode. that will make it over heat faster, a external battery will also stop it overheating.

4) yes i use selfie stick so that you can 'look back' at your vehicle and surroundings.

1. Agree with @Luke K P on the suction cup. Because you will invariably use a selfie stick to extend you would need more suction and hence 3 cup is ideal.

2. I would answer this in two parts:

a) For Reels - you can edit them on the mobile app, and you can use insta360's phone app. That is what you need at the least to export the video out. if you need to do further edits my current favorite is inshot. It is available as a onetime purchase or a subscription.

b) For long form videos:

i) The Insta360 Studio is quite versatile now. In the Project screen - it does most of the editing you would want including cut and add multiple clips. Unfortunately, it does not add the telemetry in this mode, and you have to rely on the normal export to add that in insta 360 app.

ii) Capcut is another easy application to use to edit videos that you can use.

iii) Da Vinci can be a very powerful free application if you have the aptitude for some learning curve. You will get tons of tutorials on YouTube.

I would suggest you go up in the same order as above, as you are getting more comfortable in editing.

iv) I however do most of my editing on Final Cut Pro X - it is intuitive as well as powerful editing software. it has a 90-day free trial, and I so got used to by that time that I just bought it. There is no subscription, and it is a onetime purchase.

3. Cameras tend to overheat. In the X4 they have better managed the heat due to larger case and a heat shield they give + if you record them videos at 5.7k instead of 8k you are far better off than X3. Having said that you will normally start finding issues after 2-3 hours of continuous use and when the outside temperature is over 30 degrees. You should be fine for most use case scenarios.

4. Mount > Selfie Stick > Camera

don't drive like its your last one.
