  1. Thats indeed a lovely drive. I've included a route that starts from Wadi Shees park and takes you through the wadi all the way to Mirbah Beach. @Jameskm take note whenever you would drive in wadis and mountains to take specific attention to the weather conditions.   2. Adding to that, it may be fun to take them to 'Oman' at Nahwa. There's some fun little wadi's to take off the main gravel road, many little nooks and crannies to explore and have a decent lunch spot. Here's a map of a spot I was at recently, with couple photos.

  3. torque defines the power curve across the rev range, so yea - "helps", but it also shows that the car has much more power in the mid range than the Pajero... but even with that - there are other factors (different gear ratios, weight, tires, so there is no clear 1:1 relation between power and performance here as I understand it). anyways, this engine is healthy as it should be. And probably has the stock value. I am just having problems with "dynoing" it because of several aspects, including gearbox that can't be locked in gear (thank you Toyota), so you can't really floor it on fourth gear without kickdown and the speed limit kicking in at the rev limit on fourth gear, so just before reaching the max power you get a cutoff that is related to law-required speed limit in US (105mph?). I'll be comparing gains and focus on that, rather on looking to measure it this way.

  4. has anyone seen dyno numbers of stock dual vvti engine? I just had a pleasure to get mine tested in preparation for upcoming mods and I am confused with how low the stock output is. Not sure if this is a dyno chart processing error or the engine is simply so underpowered (230hp on the crank / 326Nm after applying SAE norms), which means approx 139whp. The same dyno showed my 3.8 tuned Pajero was little over 270hp with 285Nm. Pajero was nowhere near as powerful when climbing as 4runner is... so numbers don't really translate well to climb performance.

  7. Thanks, @Zubail - should anyone else be reading this thread in the future I can confirm that Ben’s advice is spot on. I did some long climbs yesterday and they generally worked out well - 4H Part Time, Offroad Plus mode on, long press on the TC button to reduce assistances, and manual on the gear shifter. I was finding that upshifts at circa 4500-5000 rpm on the run in was good, prompt downshifts at 3000-3500 rpm in the run uphill as rpm’s decayed, modulate the throttle from mid to full application, left/right steering to find grip as you go. A few observations of the car’s behaviour: 1.) Important to feather the throttle to get timely downshifts. I think the Jeep is a little funny about a downshift with 100% throttle being held. 2.) It has a soft limiter for RPM, so when you hit redline it will aggressively limit you to that power setting. I don’t think it backs off, but you will immediately stop accelerating and that loss of momentum is going to hurt how well you do in the next gear up (basically if you hit the limiter you need to seriously consider as to whether you can keep climbing or need to be ready to bail). 3.) With some practice you can use your ear to time the gear shifts. My exhaust has an extremely noticeable note change coming down through 3000 rpm. All this was done with the Tazor Mini removed - this may have been doing something strange with the transfer case previously. I suspect that 4H Auto might do even better for getting speed initially (it’s basically an AWD system in that mode - and might help you generate more speed on a run in) - however the trade off is that the auto system can only react to conditions, it can’t anticipate, and that might cost you some performance later.

In case one cannot find a 2010+ model for Dual VVTi , for 7000dhs you can get original Toyota Racing Development superchargers that are available for Single VVTi... then the Single VVTi will beat both HP and Torque of the Dual VVTi 😄 I've seen it reaches 580hp for 1GR-FE Single VVTi on Supercharger 🔥 Food for thought for the Prado owners here...
