wind noise and creaks are normal on Xterras What you get in return is power and fun. Did you get the car inspected in a workshop already? This might avoid suprises like 4WD not engaging on the morning of your first drive2 points

We can't recommend workshops here. But i would simply recommend getting the following checked on the first time you take it for maintenance. The Xterra is not a complicated car, so any decent mechanic should be able to verify the following: - Engine oil and filter - when was it last replaced ? - Air filter - Air intake hoses - no cracks or damage ? - Coolant level - Differential front and rear fluids. - Steering fluid level - Brake fluid level - Transmission oil - when was it last replaced ? - Transfer case oil - when was it last replaced ? - suspension, shocks, bushings, balljoints inspection - spark plugs - when were they last replaced ? - injectors - when were they last cleaned ? - Tires - still in acceptable condition for off-roading ? When we purchased our 2008 Xterra, we spent another 10-15k to get the car the way we wanted it (maintenance wise) because there was no service history at all and we did not want to take any risks.1 point

Hi all, As an update, I have bought the Xterra (2010, Off road). Seems fine so far, although a lot of wind noise and a bit of a creak here and there. Engine is quite punchy and relatively smooth for it's age. Going for my first desert drive with the club tomorrow, so hoping it holds well. Are there any good off road garages, preferably that specialise in Xterras, that you can recommend?1 point

Hi @Frederic, Thank you! Acknowledge the video. Answers below. 2024 Prado White Only experience was the 4 hour beginner session with Gaurav Yes I have tow hooks. I have a flag but not yet a radio, I was planning to get one before the drive.1 point

Epic first Fewbie drive full of adventure (+misadventure) for me and pushing the car a bit more this time. Loads and loads of important new technical moments, many lessons learned, and I really appreciate all the support and advise from everyone, especially from @Ale Vallecchi and @Glenn W with the cresting incident, and fixing the pop out. Definitely a big moment of gratitude from joining this club.1 point

Sorry for the late entry. Ballon tire started with Tisamia (means 900 in arabic) 900mm is the height = 35.4 inches since 2002. Later Sumitomo launched Shaheen in 2012, then a few more companies later on. They are primarily designed for the soft sand track, climb, and general desert usage with an "UNUSUAL" aspect ratio of up to 85-95 profile - 245/85/R16 to even 245/95/R15. This means when deflated you will have a "SUPER AWESOME" footprint due to a lot of rubber between the rim and sand. Along with a higher aspect ratio tread is a straight line that enables sand driving and climbing more easily and higher. However due to straight-line treads, self-recovery sucks big time, and cars with balloon tires are sitting duck even on the slightest of stuck. Yes, they are legal. Yes, they are highly unsafe for the wet road. Yes, they are very tipsy on curves.1 point

@Alphin Aloor thanks for your query . as far as I know about these kind of tires: on road : not that safe due to the less rubber grip on asphalt. off road : these due to its design the require minimal deflation if not at all , but as long as you are moving they are like magic. Once you stop game over even if you deflate them to the maximum limit they won’t help much in self recovery because of the geometry of the grooves on the rubber won’t catch traction and won’t help to grip and crawl. yesterday I was in pink rock with my son and we came across a LWB y61 driven by local who was stuck and having these balloon tires ( BTW locals they like it and I don’t know why 😄) .. tried to help him by deflation and attempt self recovery didn’t move 1 mm !! Even with the def lock . Eventually I pulled him by rope . ( the car was not that badly stuck on semi flat sand ) In my opinion for what we do every week these are not suitable tires. But could be useful for some one who regularly goes from point A to point B offroad without wanting the extra 2 min deflation !!1 point

Dear @Simon D apologies for the late notice but my car has an oil leak I just discovered and I won’t be able to make tomorrow’s drive. So sad to miss it. Have fun tomorrow. Steffi0 points
