After 3 seasons of driving with us in Carnity, @Aser will unfortunately be leaving us as he is relocating to Canada. We want to thank Aser for his help and support he has provided to so many of us in the club and wish him well on his future adventures! Perhaps not in the sand but maybe with an F150 in the Canadian woods! Let's all say THANKS and wish him all the best!19 points

Thanks for your kind words, @Frederic, @Giacomo, @Ishak, @khurramm, @Jose Luis Campos, @_Herman_, @Luke K P, @Abdullah A., @Emanuel, @Mahesh_, @Andrew John Melvill, @Sam Selim and @Infaz Appreciate the guidance and help throughout the journey so far, "paved" with a lot of sand kernels, great dunes, long ridges and various;.. numerous... ok, let's be honest and call it as it is: an annoyingly copious amount of pop-outs! For the many who have assisted with the latter (probably anyone I have ever had the pleasure of sharing a drive with 😏); finding a solution to get the heavy girl a bit better attached to her "shoes" is very high on the list. Eventually, I will unlock the secret (and funds) to change the 20" rims into something that can accommodate rubber properly able to take a turn or sideways slip. Donations to get us all through this are very welcome, think of it as an investment to increase actual driving time and reduce the possibility of heat strokes!! 😜😆11 points

Quite the drive, @Luke K P! Never before had I seen a bash plate folded backwards like a sardine tin lid, or found 2 recovery points in the desert sand. Never before had I done the circus-style bowl escape, which my passenger and I enjoyed very much indeed. Never before had I realized that two FJ drivers at the bottom of a bowl really see less of the world around them than a two drunk monkeys in a bank vault. Thanks @Luke K P, @Aser, @Cristian and @Ash S.! Hope you are back in action again soon, @Luke K P!11 points

Well well well,... What started as a beautiful crisp morning in the dunes turned into one of those drives we’ll probably be talking about for a while 😅 We kicked things off with the briefing at 06:35, going through the game plan for the morning and revisiting some of the finer details that make Intermediate drives such a step up — momentum, commitment, quick reactions, and always being ready for what the car in front might do. To warm everyone up, we started with some flowing ridges and a handful of bigger climbs to get everyone into the rhythm early. The recent wind has really sharpened the dunes lately, making the terrain feel fresh and technical in all the right ways. A little later we found ourselves playing around a bowl area where we had a few small refusals. Nothing dramatic, but it gave us the perfect opportunity for a quick refresher discussion: IM level driving leaves very little room for hesitation. The convoy needs to stay alert, decisive, and ready to react smoothly and confidently. With that reset done, we carried on deeper into the area, collecting a few more “summits” on some of the taller dunes before linking into a really enjoyable ridge ride that eventually guided us back toward the main road. And then came the unexpected ending to the morning… Right near the exit, I completely misjudged the flat ground transition and planted the nose of my car hard enough to trigger the airbags and immediately end the drive for me. Definitely not the graceful finish I had planned 😅 Massive thanks to the whole team who immediately stepped in to help. From figuring out the safest recovery plan to improvising a tow solution after discovering my tow points had effectively disappeared, everyone stayed calm, practical, and supportive throughout. Not the ending we expected, but still a morning full of learning, good teamwork, and a reminder that the desert always keeps us humble. @Aser @Ash S. @Cristian @_Herman_ this is the great team effort that I love in this club. From grabbing tools, recovering bashplates, hooking up ropes, doing translation for Saeed, it was a masterclass in how to work as a team and get the unfortunate work done quickly and efficiently. See you all again once I get my car back from the shop!11 points

Thank you all so much for joining us last night! The weather was still very much doable, the cookies delicious @Ana ,and it was so great to see old friends back in the Carnity family @samamara! Your commitment and support to drive all the way from RAK to Al Razeen is admirable. Thank you so much. I think we all had plenty of time to mess around with our camera settings, or in the case of @Zubail his bazooka 😁 and i was super impressed with everyone's results. Even @Thomas54675 that just showed up with his phone was getting stellar results! I just selected to upload two photos which i liked. One was with the 14mm Samyang f2.8 where Sam was just pointing her laser at the sky. Gives it a nice sci-fi atmosphere. The second one is with the 35mm f2.0. There's also a gallery made for this event. Feel free to put your photos also in there. See you all back in the sand! (or starry skies in this case)9 points

Thank you to the BIG Carnity family, all the leads, support, members and specially to @Luke K P for introducing me to this club where I found everything I was looking for, a way to learn and explore with a focus on safety. If I ever was too "direct" to any of you in my "support" role please keep in mind safety is integral part of my daily job. 😅 Don't stop learning on every drive and enjoy the desert freedom! I will keep an eye on the gallery and deeply miss sharing the desert with all with you. For the newbies, keep that convoy and radio discipline, "Enforcer out"! 🤣9 points

Just out curiosity I decided to check into Carnity which I do once or twice a year to see what was happening and literally the floor beneath my feet fell away. I saw pics of a tribute drive to Gaurav. After a day of frantic calls and msgs I finally found out the worst. I only found out a few days a ago and I didn't have permission to post then. SO this is going to my way of paying respect and saying goodbye. Some friendships are forged in offices or classrooms. Ours was forged in sand. I knew Gaurav long before Carnity existed, back in the days of Dubai 4x4, two desert mad people found each other on a forum and realized they'd found their tribe. That's where I first met Gaurav Paa ji, used to drive a silver Land Cruiser GXR 100 series then. I think this was 2009 maybe. And from the very first drive, I knew he was one of those rare people, the kind who doesn't just love the desert, but understands it. Always willing to learn, asking questions non stop, Paa ji how does this work, Paa ji how would you attempt this dune, many days and evenings spent in the desert and garages. Most of you might know him as a seasoned off roader but I met when he was starting this journey and just a sponge soaking up every word, every action, observing closely and learning. I had the privilege of introducing him to Lisaili, and watching someone fall in love with a place you already love is one of life's quiet joys. He took to it like he was born for it. Knowing Gaurav Paa Ji, maybe he was. Even though our first drive there was free from trouble. My sheep had to go home on the back of a recovery and me and the Mrs had to hitch a ride back with Gaurav Paaji and Soni Bhaabi. Dubai 4x4 came and went, then Emarat 4x4 came and went and then Paa Ji started his own. Carnity. When he told me he was starting Carnity and would like me join and create some activity I gladly agreed and these were pre ChatGPT days and since I was good with filling up pages with useless information it was a good fit. I think the first few posts in the advice section are also written by yours truly. I believed in his vision because I believed in him. Life, as it does, pulled us in different directions and I drifted away from the community he built. But I never stopped being proud of what he created here. He built something that outlasted forum threads and fleeting trends . He built belonging and now more obvious than ever a legacy. Gaurav Paa Ji and I have so many miles of sand between us, dunes we climbed, tracks we conquered, Pops up we repaired, recoveries we did, moments that needed no words because the desert said everything for us. I carry every one of them. I'm gutted I won't get to drive with you again. I'm devastated I didn't get to say goodbye properly. But you'll always be Gaurav Paa Ji to me. And somewhere out there, there's a perfect dune with your name on it. Drive safe on the other side, brother. Good Bye for now.9 points

Thank you, @Frederic. Your words mean a lot and motivate me to keep learning and improving. It was a fantastic drive, and I enjoyed every moment. Thanks as well to the entire convoy for making it such a memorable experience. Looking forward to many more drives and adventures with the Carnity family! Special thanks to Arun @Menon Arun for inspiring and encouraging me to join Carnity.8 points

It was indeed a drama free relaxing drive out there this morning! With @Kishor on his first drive, we started off gently but soon realized he was a natural: keeping the exact momentum and lines and not setting a foot wrong the entire morning. Extremely impressive and you're a perfect fit for Carnity: perfectly on time, equipped with all tools, and excited to drive. We could not have wished for a better Absolute Newbie Not just Kishor, but everyone drove amazing today, so we could ramp up the pace and complexity a bit, and all of you delivered brilliantly. @Esteban Ayala@florent sierens@edward-392 you were all in my rearview mirror 😁 We took a break on Pink Rock and i felt happy to see @Imran Asghar completing his 100th drive with us. I remember his early days full of enthusiasm and jokes, and it's great to see none of that has changed As a drive lead you can now carry forward that same enthusiasm for offroading onto others. It's fantastic to have you in our midst and we all wish for many more drives together! With @Anish S , @J-P L, @Ash S.and @JC_E amidst the convoy things were a breeze: we had some good fun winching Zubail his starship, with the right tools and cool as cucumbers. It was starting to really get hot when we exited, so starting at 6AM was worth it, and the coming weeks we might even start a bit earlier Thank you all for joining today, on to the next one!8 points

Lovely 100th drive today. Drama free and fun recoveries nice one Ash with the winch I had no hope pulling that starship of Zubails out. 100th drive dedicated to @Gaurav I'm sure your keeping an eye on us from above mate. 🌹8 points

Hi @Zsolt @Menon Arun @Aringga @Nikki1007 @Dodi Syahdar @Lazy Frog @Hartzel @Riyad @Mahesh_ @Shary @Glenn W Thank you for joining this drive, and for being on time so we could start moving at 6.40 🫡. After crossing the farm track, we had small refusal but @Lazy Frog quickly get back on track. I got trapped after following@Dodi Syahdar half track and ended up in a small nasty pocket 🤣. Maybe Dodi was feeling guilty so he pulled me out of it 😁. Thanks to our 2nd lead @Zsolt for polishing my track and adjusting it whenever needed. @Menon Arun good to hear that you were not afraid of heights during the drive. You need to join more drive and you will get addicted to climbing... maybe 😅. @Aringga it seems like the new tires are way better than before, but it is not only the tires, the driver also getting better 👍👍. @Nikki1007 well done on your first Fb drive! you drove very well, I thought you might have many refusal but I was wrong 🫡. Thanks to our support team @Dodi Syahdar and @Mahesh_ for their support during recoveries. With the clear and gentle instructions, keeping everyone calm and building confidence. @Lazy Frog welcome back to the sand after couple of weeks away. Please join more Fb drive to better understand the Frog's behavior 🤣. Overall you did a great. @Hartzel it seems like you and the Fortuner have relly clicked. She will be sad when you drive the wrangler on Sunday 🤣 @Riyad looking forward to driving with you on higher level with the beast. You will enjoy tomorrow's training with @Mark B at the garden @Shary the last climb was challenging as the track was already churned up, Even I had a refusal with 14 psi, if we lower the pressure it would be just fine. Other than that you drove very well. Thanks to our "no man left behind" @Glenn W for making sure everyone stayed on the track and thanks for the rerouting. Having you at the back gives me peace of mind. We ended the drive on high note by exiting the bowl and everyone got out from the bowl without any refusals, well done 👏👏👏. See you on the next drive8 points

Thanks for the beautiful message @desertdude. I only joined the Carnity family in 2017 and started driving with the club in 2018, and felt at home from the first drive. Gaurav played a massive part in that. Every drive I would ask for his feedback and i was in awe of what he could do with that Pajero, all the while I was having the same Pajero but hardly could make it up to Pink Rock. His passion for the desert was there from the start, but the concept of building a community around it was developed by him and we still bear the fruits from it every day, and everyone who drives with us understands that what we do in Carnity is not just off-roading, but trying to provide a platform and space where people can be just themselves, form bonds and friendships, and enjoy the wonderful nature that’s so close to our doorstep. His trust in others and in myself brought me here, and the values we learned from him will be the same values we will keep instilling in every person we meet or drive with. This and this alone makes Carnity unique, and we have Gaurav to thank for that.8 points

Leading in the desert is one of the most rewarding and satisfying experiences — blending adventure, strategic thinking, and teamwork in a dynamic off-road environment. You will be learning the basics of leading in the desert in three different sessions: Leaders Lead – First Session is a structured training session designed for selected Advisors to begin their leadership journey under expert supervision. This program offers a safe, supportive environment to build your leading skills with clarity and You will be guided through three focused learning modules in session 1: Advanced Sand Reading: Learn how to interpret terrain and anticipate challenges Lead Route Planning: Master the fundamentals of designing efficient and safe routes Exit Strategy Planning: Understand how to assess and execute safe exit routes under various conditions This marks the beginning of your journey to becoming a capable and trusted desert leader — where every decision you make influences the safety, flow, and success of the entire drive. Throughout the session, you’ll be equipped with proven techniques, guided by experienced mentors, and supported in every step. The structured environment ensures you can learn the art of leading with clarity, confidence, and complete peace of mind — free from pressure or uncertainty. Join us for a stargazing session in Al Razeen Abu Dhabi! What to expect on June 13: Best shooting window: roughly 10:00 PM – 3:30 AM Milky Way core direction: southeast to south Best composition time: around midnight to 2 AM when the core rises higher Moonlight should be minimal and likely only affect the horizon before dawn. Bring your Digital Camera, and we will help you practice getting the best results out of it. The plan is to have a meetup with max. 10 members to practice and enjoy the art of Night photography and learn from each other. Bring whatever Digital camera you have and have a look at the advisable settings in your camera's manual or ask in the forum. After the event you can publish your photos in our gallery! Meetup Location: Al Razeen, Abu Dhabi https://maps.app.goo.gl/AqfvMcdzgXsUsnrZ8 Meetup Time: 9PM at the meeting point from where we will deflate. End Time: Approx 2AM we will head back to the exit. What to bring: Red headlamp and/or flashlight, camping chair, Camera or Smartphone, tripod, film/memory cards, extra battery, Recommended Lens(es). A tripod is recommended for night photography. Please do not bring big LED flood lights. We want to make sure our eyes can adjust to the dark. This is not an Off-Road Drive, but we will have to deflate at the entry point and head into the desert for 7-8 km so we have minimal light pollution. For the members who are joining us, please let us know which camera/lenses you are using and if you have practiced night photography before. @Imran Asghar@Luke K P@samamara6 points

Lately I have also started to think about bushes in the desert not as a bug but as a feature. It gives us an opportunity to drive like rock crawling or should I say bush crawling. Only issue is that if we were to get stuck on them it might become a fire hazard. Hopefully we won't have to do it because the area where we are going to drive tomorrow is a very small strip of dunes that which has very less greenery. But they sometimes are very soft. That is what I felt when I drove there for the first time. The meeting time is 6:45; please be ready to raid the dunes by 7:00. It won't be a very long drive, perhaps 2 hours with a couple of breaks for half hour so we should be out by 9:30, depending on the refusals. @Bjoern is the "Second" Lead at #6. @J-P L will be Center Forward with @Cha at the sweep. We will converse on Ch4. The convoy, partially reversed, because why not. I am not biased but jeeps got stacked up neatly at the front because of pure statistics.6 points

Dear Desert Drivers, thank you for joining the drive today. We had a great time in the desert. Starting from a sand track in Lisaili, we entered progressively into the desert, and very soon we were surrounded by dunes. We made our way further into the desert, using the wide ridges on top of the dunes when possible to try avoiding the vegetation, going up and down, with sometimes very steep inclines, experiencing different kind of sand, sometimes hard and solid, sometimes very soft or surprisingly humid. We had a few refusals, totally fine and normal while we are still trying to feel the traction and assessing the required momentum to cross an obstacle. A few stucks gave us the opportunity to take the shovels out, to remove sand from below the car and release the driver. Progressing further South, with the Eye of Sauron watching us, we finally reached a sand track from where we took East in the direction of Murqab. We finished the last 30 min on sand tracks, increasing the pace, adding a few climbs for the view, just enjoying the desert drive. Well done @Pajero-ME Martin for your first drive! @Pramod Sathyaseelan, well driven, but sometimes, you are loosing it, work on your focus and anticipation, @edward-392 excellent drive, keep discovering the capabilities of your car. @Simon Thomas, thank you for the 2nd lead, you were following my indications and anticipating my moves. Great thank you to @Mahesh_ in sweep, watching the convoy and assisting the drivers when required. Enjoy the long weekend and see you soon !5 points

The aim is to arrive at one of the Al Qudra lakes by 7pm or little bit earlier, so please bring a chair so we can have a sitdown all together. Bring your camera along as well! The exit point from that lake is very easy. We will be only around 200m from the road, so you can exit anytime you like. See you all soon!5 points

As we enter the summer season, @Sam Selim and I have been watching the gauges on our Jeep JL 3.6L 4x4's - which quickly raises a question...what does normal look like? Our hobby means we push cars harder and in unusual conditions, often in ways for which they were not directly designed. A quick glance will tell you if everything is OK (i.e. all the needles are below red-lines), but over time many of us develop a gut feeling for what looks normal and when things are outside of what we would expect to see. I decided on today's drive with @Mark B to snatch a few data points and look at things with a bit more detail: Couple of major points to relate my gut feelings to what you see: The oil pressure on the Pentastar engine varies with RPM, with typically around 30 PSI below circa 3000 RPM, rising to 70 PSI when revving higher - the key point is just to ensure you don't have too low oil pressure (<<30 PSI). Oil temperature is a leading indicator: if you push hard, it moves up quickly, and vice-versa. This is to be expected, as engine oil has the dual job of lubricating the engine as well as drawing heat. Coolant temperature is a lagging indicator: The coolant temperature rises when pushing the engine, but at a slower rate - it also cools down less quickly too. Also on the Jeep JL, the fan will kick into max power at 110 degC and pull the temperature down again. If you see the temperature going beyond 110 degC and can't hear the fan (or the temperature keeps rising), it's time to do something (like come to a stop!). Transmission Temperature: It's a slow mover with plenty of margin to the limit value. However my suspicion is that once this gets hot, it will take some time to cool down again. What does normal look like on your car, and what are the big red flags for you?5 points

I am sure we'll have a great morning out in the pristine dunes of Fayah. Just a couple of pointers: 1. Please try to arrive by 6.15AM. There are some road-works along this road, so be extra cautious. Also take note that there is no 20km/h grace speed in Abu Dhabi 😁 100=100! 2. Don't forget your flag, radio, compressor, and pressure gauge. 3. Upon arrival you can deflate to 14psi if you have highway terrain tires, and to 12psi if you have all terrain tires. @florent sierens your Jimny can be deflated to 10-11psi to achieve good flotation See you all in the morning!5 points

Hi Guys, very keen to join you tomorrow. I'm from Argentina, 12 years here in Dubai I used to ride in the desert with a motocross, but I changed now to the cars... Less aggressive and allows me to still be in the dunes. I drove a few times in the sand, but I have a lot to learn. Hope I can improve by joining the community. My car is a black SWB Pajero 2011 stock with bash plate only. I have the equipment mentioned above and watched the video. See you tomorrow.5 points
