When was the last time you saw a local shabab driving a Pajero or Xterra. Prados started off well but then were demoted now rarely seen with a Shabab on board. Specially for harakat purposes or off road Specially after they killed off the SWB V6. And introduction of the FJ. The wranglers and Cherokees really didnt take off with the local crowd until the 2000s. Mostly popular with the expats until then, so they have yet to achieve any iconic status. But unfortunately both wet killed oft and replaced with crappy versions before they could, so doubt they ever will. Not real fans of anything after the XJ and TJ. Regardless of what happens the Kngs here will always be Neyzan and Station.

Mostly because they are Bu Jasim's. To be fair I worked for over a decade in the desert safari guide industry and not one of us had a flag or radio. On the few occasions we were given a radio, usually when leading or sweeping big convoys of 50 plus cars I would actually keep it switched off, because it was annoying as our supervisor loved talking on it and plus we picked up a lot outside chatter. If you work with a team of professionals who know what they are doing and follow the basic rules of convoy driving, then you don't need any of it. Because for us this was our job our only source of bread and butter and we tool it seriously because any nonsense like this would usually get the driver getting blacklisted and/or fired. Unlike these folks who are only in it because they get to drive Land Cruisers and oogle and talk to girls which in real life they can't get in 20 feet of them and maybe even strike lucky once in a blue moon. And 9 times out of 10 the guy is trying to impress a chick in his car and ends up with his wheels in the air. The other time is someonesbrother just got his driving license and now wants to get a job so he joins up. Back in the day to get into the business you had to prove to metal and train properly. I was only allowed to drive on tracks withe the company pickup for the 1st year ( even though when ever I got the chance I would sneak off into the dunes on my own )

Yup its an AWD and sorry o be bearer of bad news but the 6cyl feels underpowered in bulkier JGC. Also the quadadrive 4wd system is complicated and prone to failure. One of the reasons I've always skipped on these

Yeah but everything around it falls apart including the cooling system which cannot keep the engine chiseled by greek gods from exploding.

You can drive in low in a manual. By skipping 2 gears as in starting from a dead stop in 3 and then going up tp 4 and 5. Keeping revs same as you would in high. You get more torque this way. But yeah even I know some people who drive in L4 all the time. L4 basically to get more torque at low speeds where the engine hasn't revved up enough to get into is maximum power band. Like rock crawling to making your way up on a steep wadi climb or using engine braking while coming down on a steep incline. Or when you do not have a big enough run to get up a big dune. But then you need to control it then because as you slow down towards the end of the climb it will kickdown into first over spin the tyres and you get bogged down very close to the top even if you had enough momentum to carry you over. Oooi not good at all. But who am I to criticize.I kept driving my car even after it had blow its head gaskets for three months. Then I risked a longer trip in traffic and on the way back near my place the car overheated so much it shutoff on its own! And wouldn't start until the next day until the next day until it cooled down properly. This ended up scouring two cylinder walls and I had to pay extra to get them resleeved and new piston heads along with the head gasket repair! 😕

Doubt it, from what I can remember stock jero size is 265 so its only a tiny bit bigger. I went fro 255s to 75s on my Discovery without feeling much change but that could also be the LR V8 is a very torquey engine starting from very low down in the rpm range

He got stopped for noise and then got done for modifications! Just bad luck I guess. Buddy of mine was stopped also late night in Sharjah and got done in for not wearing a seatbelt even though he was wearing one, but took it off to go out to show his papers. Leaving him with no proof that he was wearing one. So moral of the story. Don't drive late night in Sharjah.

Keep on looking, finding the right car is a tough job but luckily there are plenty of pathfinders and Cherokees around. And with Ramadan and summer right around the corner 4x4 prices drop so it's a good time to look for one.

The pic posted is of a body lift not a spacer suspension lift, usually done on ladder frame chassis truck with really big tires. This is just adding spacers between the body and frame chassis. Extreme example is monster trucks. Suspension lift is just putting block or puck of plastic, rubber or metal between the spring and body. Thus raising the suspension. Not a fan of those though, you still retain the same stock suspension characteristics abiet a bit more wobbly and you still most probably will bottom out and your rear will still sag

This right here is the truth. Over my recently long offroading career this was very apparent because we basically all drove the same car. Land Cruisers. But some even after driving for years could not tackle anything more than some simple dunes ans while other having recently joined would go anywhere. There was a select group of drivers who were allowed to do the Liwa, Wagan, Shuaib type trips and out of those even a smaller number who were assigned to lead the convoy. Unlike majority of the tour companies we did not operate in the regular sandbox of big red fossil rock area but murqab, lisaili and what is now known as Qudra area. During busy time we outsourced drivers, even the so called ACE and best drivers of the sans box struggled in our area due to is varying terrain from small very technical dune to the big ones closer to lisaili close to the sand stone formations. So yeah I too 100% believe its the driver and not the car. As many know later on I moved to a big chunky Land Rover Discovery and everyone said its a whale and wont go anywhere. But I took it everywhere from Liwa to Wagan and once when involved in a friendly high speed bumper to bumper chase behind big red with a wrangler a Cherokee driver actually later on came up and refused to believe the car was stock other than a basic 2" lift after he saw us two giving it a go on the ridges. SO yeah its the driver alright, another example is Formula 1 racing basically they all have to drive same spec cars due to regulations. So only tye best driver wins tye race.

I think the design itself is flawed. All the power is being transferred through a tiny mostly rubber belt slipping and sliding on two cones. For low power applications it might work and I mean 2 wheel moped type stuff. There is a reason why there are no big power engines coupled with CVTs. I think the biggest motor with a CVT you can find is NA V6 just over 250hp
