  4. Every car manufacture do and try different power splits like 60:40, 66:34, 70:30 based on the engineering for power and fuel efficiency. As many use 4x4 for mountains and trailer load etc. Whenever you engage central diff-lock in all vehicles (to best of my knowledge) it create a 50:50 split, increasing the chances of countering slippage (loose track) or struggling in sudden steep hill climb without enough momentum.
  5. Central diff-lock you can use it any time and take turns too (not only on straight incline) as its locking the central drive shaft for equal front and rear power split without locking any wheels. But don't use rear diff-lock for normal driving.
  6. Good point clarified @Rahimdad @Atif You shouldn't use rear diff lock for any climbing or driving. However you can safely use center diff lock for climbing or even on normal desert driving where you constantly need to negotiate hard with cross tracks, steep sudden climbs etc. for better grip and stability. With central diff lock ON engine power is getting equally split in front and rear by 50:50 without locking any wheels, so you can also safely turn freely while central diff lock is engaged.
  7. Central diff-lock (technically) will help in climbing tall dunes. Only in HLC (High-Locked) NOT in LO gear. In reality the marginal (fractional) advantage might show or not depending on the same line you take with exact same speed in both attempts. Taking about faya attempts, here. At times I do climb tiny bit higher with central diff-lock on and at times, I don't. Even when I do its by few meters only and not any substantial gain.
  8. I wasn't referring to me as in my case Patrol was an exception to have a heavy duty dual clutch. But seen few quick learner getting the hurdle when they start listening and follow
  9. Not quite applicable to all cars and drivers, tbh. Very nicely written with layers of thinking
  10. That's a very good contender too, if you can get the clean one. Any day better than Pajero, Prado and Wranglers tbh. BUT it should be 2012 and upward with 4800 VTEC Engine. And NOT with 4.5 Engine. Another good contender could be FJ Cruiser, known and proven for years.
  11. Call Mobil 1 service center in shj, something like crystal service center close to old troy university signal (now al durrah). I suffered same two years back and Mobil 1 has exact spec.

  14. TRIP REPORT Absolute Newbie drive is always my personal favourite to meet so many new faces and excited to show them the real art of offroading beyond just the vehicle capabilities. Almost everyone was on time and thank you for that, the real cherry on the cake was the profound presence of @Emmanuel (resident Velociraptor) to support AN drive. Im sure we are in for great time with good company and beautiful cars. After almost an 8 months of gap I did my first AN briefing physically outside (not on radio) and it was so relaxing to make sure to address every little detail for safer offroading before we start. All the absolute newbies drove good and responded very well to scaling up the drive. We barely had any refusals and just 1 stuck in whole 3+ hours drive. That tells enough that everyone was really ready, careful and listen to every instruction and followed the track impeccably. Thank you @Karim Allam for responsible second lead and im sure as you grow further you will have enough drives to feed your offroad hunger and make new like-minded friends here at Carnity. @Hassan Almousa you and your Pajero did great and make sure to get the rear bumper (scooping issue) sorted, as that will be the main concern as you drive stock Pajero regularly. @Ranjeet Pundlik I love your off-roading spirit and attitude even after barely scratching the front bumper of your LC. Initial concern and hiccups are absolutely normal when you manage LWB LC in the desert for the first time. You will get better with time and then decide yourself to spend money for mods on LC or buy second car as a desert toy. @Nafiz your V8 Lexus was one of my dream car from olden days as I have had same shape LC100 in 2006 - 2008. You managed very well and hope you continue to enjoy your drive and work on learning the real art of offroading. @Ben84 and Holly you were ruling with your Rubicon Wrangler at the back and you too have a great offroading spirit and right attitude to learn and build your knowledge first so that you can scale up to higher level of drives in very near future. drive has a different charm from other level drives, as it always reminds me of the day when I started offroading as an Absolute Newbie. At that stage I completely moved away from my comfort zone having never pushed my car beyond 3000 rpm and always worrying about what is on the other side of the dune (it took a wise man to tell me that there is only sand on the other side, so do take a leap of faith esp if the car in front has done it). While some might feel its one of the easiest drives to lead, it can become extremely challenging very quickly. Yesterday was one such drive which was quite challenging in a different manner and this is despite no use of a rope or shovel. Big shout out of appreciation to @Emmanuel who has supported this Absolute Newbie drive so perfectly and patinetly to help and guide everyone in the convoy. Moving forward you all will be joining the Newbie drives and not an Absolute Newbie drive. Drives are announced every Sunday at 11 am, and they go live on Sunday at 7:10 pm. Due to the high demand, these drives get full in about 10 minutes, so please be online at 7:10 pm to book your spot. If you miss a spot, put your name on the waitlist asap. Generally, by Thursday with dropouts everyone does get a spot if they have waitlisted. For the next drives, please bring along a deflator, pressure gauge, flag and radio as a minimum. Learn to deflate your tires and checking them precisely. Learn to fix a flag on your car. Learn to program and fully charge your radio. Also like I mentioned during the debriefing, join the Carnity Whatsapp Drive Notification to get the latest updates on the drives, so that you can RSVP on time for the next weekend's drive. Please have a look at below topic which describes the tools needed for every level. There is a separate tutorial inside which explains which radio we recommend and how to program them: Please DO NOT BUY the Baofeng 888S spare radio we gave you, as these cannot be programmed. Please have a look at below grading structure that explains various off-road levels: See you guys soon in the sand again !

  20. @Karim Allam @Ben84 @Ranjeet Pundlik To all who have RSVP'd by now: "Welcome to Carnity Offroad Club" ! You have probably come across lots of information on this drive topic, the website, and might have a lot of questions on how to prepare yourself for your first offroad drive with us. Rest assured we have covered all the essential information already in many topics, tutorials, and we will be guiding you through every step along the way to becoming a confident & safe offroader. The first thing I'd like to ask of you is to briefly introduce yourself: Which 4x4 are you driving/bringing to the drive? Do you have any prior offroading experience? If so please specify. Does your vehicle have minimum 8 inches of ground clearance? Does your vehicle have front and rear towpoints and are they in good condition? Furthermore, we have made an amazing Absolute Newbie briefing video which really helps in getting you to understand the first basic essentials, so please watch it with full attention: MUST WATCH: NEWBIE VIDEO BRIEFING For your first offroad drive with us you will only need a few offroad gears: A tire pressure gauge and deflator so you can deflate your tyres (available in Speedex, Ace, Dragon Mart). A compressor to inflate your tyres (the compressor at the Last Exit ADNOC has been defective for the last few weeks) A fully serviced vehicle with front and rear towpoints, and a spare wheel that is usable in case needed. In case you have more offroad gears you are of course welcome to bring it along. After this absolute newbie drive, you will start joining Newbie level drives and for that you will need the following gears: An offroad flag. A Two-Way UHF radio that can be programmed to our Carnity channels. A full size shovel. Please do not hesitate to ask your questions on this drive topic. We have many specialists on the forum that will be able to help you out.
  21. This FJC was also buried in sand till axle (purposely) to learn self recovery. WhatsApp Video 2020-12-15 at 1.43.39 PM.mp4
  22. Very good observation @Mohamed Seidam in sand finding a solid ground or anchor like tree is tough. Digging huge hole to burry spare tire or sand anchor is what I have heard too, but never tried or seen anyone trying in my 14 years of off-roading in UAE. Learning a self recovery to extreme can help in such solo drives (although not advisable to go alone). Below are the videos from our Recovery Champion course, where we teach lot of self recovery scenarios. One of the most difficult crest stuck where all 4 wheels are free, so no diff lock, no low gear will ever work.
