I also just packed up almost everything possible and looking forward to this exploration drive.

Nope, not really as will get late to reach there in dark. Basit has done a lot of back planning, so let's stick to the same timing, please.
  3. Very well put by Barry. Thanks for all clearing up the doubts when we were busy off-roading yesterday. Grandtrek are usually just OK, but they turn VERY BAD if they cross half life on their treads. If your Grandtreks are too bald with gone tread, then I would highly advise not to venture in sand as you will guaranteed to have pop-out. In my decade of offroad experience, I had 90% pop-outs on my Land Cruiser with beaten up Grandtrek. Going alone in desert with no previous experience is a suicidal mission. Desert safari "train track" is a different world and FAR from actual desert driving experience. Read below advises and it will help you clear your doubts more and dont forget to thank the author and like their content.
  4. Barry, everything has a price to pay for tax benefits, rights and stay in the country without a job called citizenship. Anyways leave the economics and politics aside let's talk about our favorite subject: Cars. The way I see the future is nobody gonna put a ban on ICV but it will come with heavy prices to discourage it's usage. On other hand electric / hybrid will be on discounts / cheaper viable option to encourage people to switch to cleaner means of transport. In my last visit to London - 2 months back I was surprised to see that every second car get switched off instantly on red light / stop and go traffic as soon as car comes to complete halt. These all cars comes with some device that switches off car engine instantly when stopped and restart the car in fraction of a second when you lift off the foot from brake pedal. Now that is something genius way to save fuel, controlling emission, etc.
  5. 2" lift kit is must if you plan to venture off-road with your Jeep, it will even help more in your Jeep Wrangler Unlimited case due to its long wheel base. So for sure it's worth every penny to get lift-kit. Now which one is good, I am not really sure in Jeep / Mopar world may be someone more knowledgeable here can advise further. For Light bar, there is two school of thoughts: For people fan of beam opt for halogen spot light setup. For people who like flood opt for LED light bar. If you go LED light bar, my highest recommendation is to go for CREE LED light bar, as they are VERY bright and helps a lot in the night . I am using CREE (top) and non CREE (bumper)LED bars in my Pajero (first car) and know the difference very well. I can read the dunes formation from 250 - 300 meters with my top mounted CREE LED light bar.
  6. Thanks Ren, wish you and everyone here Eid Mubarak and happy holidays.

  8. Yup same I have done on my stand alone Garmin long back, but now I like MotionX offline maps for such areas. Tried them in several countries and it works perfect (but not tested yet in Oman). Have you stayed in Mirbat? And how was the daily drive up and down?
  9. Thanks Mohd, for prompt help. Have you tried Motion X on iPhone works in Salalah....?
  10. @Mohd86 could you please list the names of nice places to visit in Salalah as Abbas is on its way and this can help him plan his trip.
  11. So finally VAT will pave the way for Hybrid and Electric cars bright future in UAE......! Nice and sad at same time. Click Sad on this comment if you are said and click like if you really happy with Hybrid / Electric future
  12. Go with your gut feeling than anything else. RTA doesn't provide seller history neither the dealers here. So you left with what really in front of your eyes than trusting some random stranger. If deal is way too sweet, then run away

  14. What he meant is comprehensive test is not worth as much as it sounds by its name. I kind of agree too with it. However, my take is still go for it as it "sometimes" it point out some immediate concern based on which you can re-negotiate the selling price and this 350 can save you 2k-5k in buying price.
  15. I have done comprehensive test in Aweer Tasjeel few times in past in last 2 years. Go here: https://goo.gl/maps/LF2iQQb7FXH2 Click on left side photos (9 photos) and scroll to 5th photo - list of fees (blue board) showing comprehensive rate 350 and that image clicked in Aug 2017, so it seems they still do comprehensive check. Alternatively, you can go to neighboring Shamil in Emarat in Nad Al Hammar area for quick transfer: https://goo.gl/maps/qsApEMdJ6cx
