@JAISROCK @Richard Franks @Anna Dillon @Mohammed Ibrahim @Joseph Raju @Serafino @Adnan Halepota @Brendan White @Sudhanva Sonawane @Thomas Varghese @Zed @GauravSoni @Niki We have a very good line up of Newbie drivers with the right mix of more experience members to spice up tomorrow's drive. As everyone has driven with Carnity before I would like to just brush up on the more important points for the moment: 1. Ensure that you have a flag, radio, deflator and pressure gauge as a minimum. A compressor to inflate your tyres is also highly recommended 2. Ensure that all items are properly secured and tied down in your car. 3. Ensure that your car is in good working condition 4. Please be there on time, i.e., 6:00 AM. A little early would be better. Meeting point has been updated on the drive post as well as the calendar event . https://goo.gl/maps/QpjB6NdtfaPpSKf9A. The Fewbie convoy is also in the nearby vicinity, so don't be tempted to jump on that convoy. 5. We will be using Carnity Channel 3 (446.056) for tomorrow's drive. Please ensure that this channel is programmed properly before the drive. The plan for tomorrow is to start of on some nice easy dunes with a relaxed pace. As everyone starts getting settled, I will start bumping up the level one step at a time as we get closer to the bigger dunes of Sweihan. We also have Convoy Numbering would be posted later this evening.

JL Sport Plastic Bumper Replacement Options
Srikumar replied to Looper's topic in Jeep Wrangler Forum in UAE
Unless the Rubicon bumper is made from Kryptonite, I would go with the cheaper and well reputed company AOR. -
We are in the same boat of driving dinosaur age cars and you will get a 3rd party insurance only. But like I mentioned before, as long as you keep your car in good shape you are eliminating most scenarios of breakdown. Do comprehensive insurance with offroad coverage provide desert recovery? In the past when I did have a comprehensive cover with offroad coverage from Oman Insurance, they mention a clause that recovery will be done a certain distance from the road (or something like that). They covered accidents / rolls, etc in the sand, but not desert recovery. But my information could be outdated as well.

Leaving a broken down car behind is never a nice feeling. Having said that, rather than speaking of the remedy, let's mention the precautionary actions that one can take to avoid a broken down car: 1. Ensure your car is a 100% each time you hit the sand. If in doubt, it's better not to sign up for a drive 2. Regularly maintain your car, and I am not referring to the normal fluid changes. If you have had a nose dive / hard impact on a drive, after the drive you need to jack up the car and ensure that everything is fine. You might notice a cracked bushing or broken link rod, etc. 3. Be focussed while driving. A slight distraction, and you might fly of a dune causing a severe damage 4. Get a good mechanic as your friend who would periodically help inspect the entire vehicle. Alternatively, do it yourself. If you follow the above, you will eliminate most of the major causes of breakdowns. Getting a broken down car out of the desert purely depends on how far it is from the road. If it's behind some big dunes, then there is no option but to call professional recovery or get a mechanic. All the Marshal and Leads at Carnity are driving stock cars that are not designed to tug out a dead vehicle from deep within the desert. In such cases, it's better to call for professional recovery or get a mechanic into the desert.

Fog is always an uncertain weather condition depending on multiple factors. But since we are still facing warm weather, by delaying the start of the drive to 7 AM we would be extending it to 11:00 AM where we most likely have overheating cars. Hence the drive start timing for October month is kept at 6 AM. In the event of fog, the Lead would keep Safety in mind to decide whether its safe to drive or not and if necessary even delay the drive. Also, drives in November would start at 6:30 AM.

In my XJ, I have a Dana 30 axle in the front and a Dana 35 in the rear. I have also had a few nose dives with some extremely hard impact on the front axle. Recently, the axle seals were leaking and we had to open the differential, and everything inside seemed fine from the 4 years of abuse that it has been taking. 🤞 My point, is that unless you are going crazy with your driving or on tyre size, the Jeep axles are built reasonably tough that dont need special reinforcements.

@Anna Dillon @Zed @Nabeel Abdul Rahman @Mohammed Yazir Thattarathil @Johannes Roux @Muhammed Saeed @John Vanderbleek @Derius Olivier @Salim Akhtar @Adnan Halepota Good morning. Thank you for joining tomorrow's Nahel drive. For those who would be driving with us for the first time welcome to the Carnity Offroad Club. PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 6:00 AM sharp. Reaching 10 mins early would be better, but dont be late. Also, ensure that you have tow points at the front and rear with 8 inch (min ground clearance) 2) All first timers with Carnity need to ensure that they have gone through the Newbie briefing Video : https://youtu.be/hP-2ah4Eyek 3) For the Fewbies @Zed @John Vanderbleek in our convoy, you would be assigned some important roles for tomorrow. So please ensure to bring all your offroad gears for the drive. @Zed, please ensure that you have your transferred your recovery gears from LC to the Y62. 4) We will be using Carnity Channel 3 tomorrow. (446.05625 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post. Please ensure that you have a fully charged and programmed radio before the drive. If you are a first timer with Carnity we shall provide you with a spare radio for this drive, if you dont have one. https://carnity.com/advice/offroad/carnity-two-way-radio-frequencies-r119 5) All traction controls, Airbags and ABS need to be switched off. While turning off traction control is mandatory, its ok if you are unable to turn off the Airbags for this drive. Traction Control, ABS and Airbags can be disabled by a button or by pulling the fuse. Incase of any queries you can always ask before the drive or better still, post your queries on this drive post and we would assist. 6) You will need a pressure gauge and deflator as a minimum. If you have a compressor it would be good to being along. 7) For highway tyres you can deflate to 15 psi. Those who have AT tyres, you can deflate to 13 psi. We shall be starting the drive on some flat tracks and would build up the pace from there depending on the convoy response. We will be driving for about 3.5 hours practicing driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle more familiarized with the desert. By 10:00 am we will be heading out. Convoy Numbering would be posted this evening after 5 pm. @Johannes Roux I will try to accommodate your request.

Yup, there are a lot of small details that goes into a making a good successful hill climb, and these skills become very useful as you go up the ladder to IM drives where the terrain would demand entering and exiting out of big dunes and bowls. Knowing when to floor the gas pedal, choosing the right line, etc are the key ingredients. Also, this drive is not about who can climb the highest, but rather how to get the maximum out of your current ride.
