One way is to see the prices available for a similar condition vehicle on Dubizzle and then start negotiating to get it as low as possible. If you have decided the vehicle and you are buying it on cash, it would be good to carry the cash with you and do one final negotiation before getting the transfer done. A seller also would like to sell his vehicle at the earliest and it's a good time to negotiate if you are serious to buy.

Yeah, i am doing that now. have the cash ready so that we get done with the purchase. what i  have seen so far is that seller are just trying to find someone who is willing to pay his price and does not worry much depreciation or maintenance. A seller literally told this is my car and i decide the price. so i realize that these are probably not serious sellers, they just are just waiting for opportunity to seller their car on a profit.

60K or less would be a good price if car is super clean and no accidents.

If it was not black, I will say upto 63 can be good deal, depending on your base price finding.

Approx math for Korean depreciation (not very conclusive though).

    2016 - 130K - 20% = 104
    2017 - 104K - 15% = 88
    2018 - 88K - 15% = 75
    2019 - 75K -15% = 63

After this price finding, you need to do lot of plus and minus based on real condition.

If any tire change, battery, major service is due in next 3-6 months it will lower the value further.

Thanks mate, the numbers are the same in the excel that i made. it gives confidence that i am just aligning to market and not blind in doing this.

  2. As i am doing my first real used car search and doing all the math with depreciation and resale and all that, i thought of asking the experts of how much they will put the money for.

As for the brand and the options, i am very happy, but the right price to buy is what is confusing me. so it's Kia Sorento 2016 Full option, black color, done like 35K Km's only. GCC, Agency maintenance, Full service history. had a quick test drive, it was fine - did not do a full/detailed check. The price from what i know in 2016 was 130K, registered in Dec 2016.

Can you guys tell me how much you would pay for this?

You can actually get a super clean cars at a very good bargain price if you are regularly scanning the adverts daily. I bought all my cars from Private deal since 2002. I tried many times the used car dealers and auction sites when I was desperate but I never ended up buying any after wasting lot of time.

Thanks mate, that's sound like the same thing i am doing now.. been scanning sites and trying all the options around with no satisfactory results :)

Unless you are a sound mechanic or technician who wish to buy this and fix it for own use / resell, I wouldn't be going anyway closer to such junk to waste my time and money.

Car buying with clean history and test report throws so many issues after few months, let alone this screaming and shouting car with tons and tons of red flags, concern and suspicion.

i think i should take the advice from experts here. obviously something is fine and need to spend time and money to get this to fully proper condition.

It could be fuel pump or air metering sensors...if truly only rear damage is there and fixed professionally then it should last like any other car of same age...

As per copart, primary damage is MINOR DENTS/SCRATCHES. secondary is normal wear. The car did not have proper service history and had adnoc sticker, so surely the condition is average at max.

  5. So this is content of the test certificate on copart.

    test_report.png

it shows one problem that i found during the test drive - if i open the full throttle, the car stalls at 3k - 3.5 K RPM. acts as if there is no fuel. however, when driven normally (normal throttle) this problem did not occur and car reached 80+; acceleration was good in both situations.

As professional's, what would you guys do with this car? i don't want the car such badly, but a practical understanding of this car is what i like to hear.

From that tiny 0.5 pixel by 0.5 pixel tiny pic I can tell you its an auction car. Because it has the lot number sticker on the driver side windscreen. Most probably copart, from the look of the pic.

    GCC specs?  KIA Sportage?

Dude, you are 100% correct; i am dumbfound! This is Copart and when i zoomed in to the original report's photo, i could see a hi-res photo and it has the lot number and checked it on coport's website and it matches... i can see the test certificate too! i am without no words..

Stick the VIN into vindecoderz.com, it will give you the original factory spec, engine number, transmission number etc. then you can check if the numbers on the engine correspond.

Converting a 6 cyl to a 4 cyl does seem odd though. You’re more likely to do it the other way around.

This one is very useful.. i saw so much more data and it's helpful.

Depends on the car and who’s doing it and if they have done it before but if it’s a simple one, it could be done in half a day. I used to be able to change the engine in my race car in under 30 minutes if I used power tools.

Thanks mate. i think i should talk ask the owner a little more details. This is tricky as i think the owner may not feel comfortable to discuss.

odometer has not changed - so i understand it's the same KM as in the test.

no, the report only has this - no more details.

Cylinder case is also doubtful that it shows car had 6 cyl engine, but owner changed to 4 cycl - why.....?

The car is only 4 Cylinder. vincoderz and current vehicle license has the same license numbers - did not check the actual serial number on the vehicle though.. :(

Looks like at some point chassis had some issues and I will be very curious to know how did it passed again after few days.

Second seems tires, must be old so he changed for renewal - normal

Cylinder case is also doubtful that it shows car had 6 cyl engine, but owner changed to 4 cycl - why.....?

    • Error in RTA data - It's OK
    • Customer change engine - why, where, which, at what kms etc. etc.

The more confusing thing was both the tests were same day, just 3.5 hours apart. The car had the same mileage in both the tests.

This is the only detail I have for the issue...

You think a car engine replacement for a small SUV 2.5 can be changed in like 3.5 hours ?

  10. Hey guys,

i have been hunting for a used car and found one interesting recently. i checked out the vehicle and it was acceptable so i thought of utilizing the RTA's Vehicle Status Report. Took the owner's permission and applied for the request online - was not easy. Expected the Vehicle report to be available instantly as per the RTA website, but it took like 16 hours. Looks like someone was sitting and generating the report manually. OK moving on.. enuf rant.  The report has provides the inspection history and had something that i don't understand, so i would like the expert's here for some help. Can you please have a look at the attachment to let me know your thoughts on this?

    Many thanks in advance.

As this is a relatively new service and not much information is available and i thought that i should let the community know about the contents of this report. Here is the summary of my report.

    Ras Al Khor car market

Thanks Frederic. No, have not tried it. i don't think i am good at negotiating and in general don't trust the dealers. how do we check the car condition if i pick one here? As they won't be registered, will i even be able to take them out for a test drive? Do we get to run the car through a comprehensive test or something if i choose a car from the car market?

i just looked at one of the terms and conditions in small letter and it says 90 days LOL. who would want to wait for a car for 90 days.

    Quote

    l. The paper of the vehicle shall be finalized within approximately 90 work days of completing the payment process.

  12. Does anyone have an experience of buying car via this site http://www.emiratesauction.com? i kind of expect the members to swear for this idea of not even looking at the car in person and buying it online... :) well, honestly have become bored of seeing dubizzle, yalla motors, yzer, Dubi Cars and more... I think that i have picked up a very niche model or something and can't seem to get the cars i have shortlisted... :( Any suggestions on where look for used cars?

i am looking to buy from direct owner and not a dealer. i found carswitch good at connecting consumers directly. buyanycar/sellanycar seems to have more number of cars than carswitch, however my experience tells me that these guys are just a bridge for car dealers and not really here to help consumers

  13. ok, so this is what the RTA service provides....

The new service called ‘Vehicle Condition Certificate’ offers the applicants detailed information of the vehicle such as the distance it has clocked, its previous owners, its condition during the last annual test, how many times it was impounded if any etc.

  14. My previous car was Dubai registered and i had an accident in 2017 in RAK; This showed up in MOI website. however, i had one more in 2018 in Dubai which did not. so i am guessing these services are by location of the accident and not by registration. i Google about the vehicle condition thingy, all link seem to point to vehicle status certificate only.

  15. Thank so much @syedyaseer and @Srikumar

    @Srikumar

Do you have a example format or something? would it be the same as ones posted in emirates auctions?

when i checked the RTA link, the FAQ says below, so not sure what this report will contain.

Question 2: Does the certificate provide data about the vehicle accidents?

Answer 2: No, the certificate does not include this data.
