All recalls and TSB are always or mostly free, and it has no connection with warranty. Car manufacturers are doing recalls even after 10 -15 years.

Nice info you shared with everyone to help here. Well done.

Agreed that it is the car manufacturers' responsibility even way after the warranty period.

Whilst I appreciate the FOC replacement under the recall campaign, I would appreciate a bit more proactive actions like publicizing or reaching out to car owners via telephone messages to tell them to schedule an appointment for the replacement regardless whether they service with the agency or not. For my case, I discovered it by chance when I showed up for a regular service.

Upon further research, apparently, if the fuel pump is faulty, it may just cut fuel supply and the car will just stall. Will be a tricky situation in the desert, esp in the middle of some sort of maneuver.

  2. FJ Cruiser is having a fuel pump recall for 2014 FJ.  Al Futtaim Toyota had replaced it for free last week although my car is out of warranty under the recall campaign.

I did some research on the recall and below is what i found. The cars that might be applicable for Middle East from the list below would be Avalon, Corolla, Land Cruiser, Tundra and Camry. Worth checking if you or your friends have these vehicles.

  3. I would assume that car manufacturers know that those who take the 4WD cars to the desert will need to switch off the airbags, ABS, traction controls etc. Why does it not come with a kill switch? I had install an after market kill switch.

If there is a global safety regulations that it could not be a standard item then at least make this an option for buyers to choose. Manufacturers can also educate the users in the manual on how to operate it safely and that the manufacturers disclaim all sort of liabilities whatsoever.

So far, I know FJ does not come with a kill switch, and based on what I read, Xterra, Pajero and Wrangler as well.

  4. I had to take a break from the weekly drives because the school term has started for my son and did not want my son to start the new school term feeling exhausted due to waking early or sleeping too late.

Hopefully when the weather gets better, those evening drives can start earlier or morning drives to start later. Sorry! My preferred driving time is tuned to kids' sleeping schedule. 😅

Thanks for your suggestion and yes we have been always trying to maximize all drives and not just newbie level as much as possible.

For maximizing drives, our biggest challenge is and always will be the forecasting the perfect balance of drive to meet the demand at all levels. This forecasting needs a constant experiment as it's a moving target. @Srikumar has been appointed to manage this aspect and he is always trying to optimize the number of drives vs attendance.

Just like in dunes you cannot replicate the learning of one dune to another, so Sri is always experimenting the best fit scenario with minimal waitlist but he has to constantly experiment this every week based on last weeks learning. And sometimes we do get stuck and face refusals like this week experiment of 2 newbie drives in the evening that caused a bit of disconnect with morning newbie drive.

Within the last two months, Sri has successfully scaled with the constant support of all trip leads from 60+ signups to 100+ now (107 as of now). We are truly blessed with dedicated and passionate offroaders who love off-roading and gives us this weekly challenge. We do request all offroaders to extend their love and support during this unprecedented growth and learning phase. And be rest assured that we are on top of this matter and handling this with utmost priority without compromising on any safety aspect.
