  1. It was pre-covid days (2018/19) when I "tried" to drive there, and it was supposed to be a return trip without camping. I was driving my Santa Fe, and I missed one exit. Google decided therefore that a way through the back side of an Airforce Airfield is the way to go. I am a wuss - unsure if I wanted to proceed any further, I reversed back on to E11 and drove a bit towards Saudi and crossed then under construction Nuclear Power Plant and spent some time at a secluded beach with turquoise waters. 160 km/hr was a bit scary on a lightweight wobbly Santa Fe but, boy was it not fun. I am sure you will enjoy it in your Merc.
  2. PS: do I regret - no. Did I need it, yes kind of - I came to a level of my driving experience where I started to feel the need of a wider tyre and consequently a need of a lift kit. If I could get away with just the tyres I would have. I tried to do what @Kailas has done. Drive in 285s without a lift. It had slight rubbing issues in the desert but otherwise fine on road. But the handling was not that good on road frankly - somehow didn’t enjoy driving on road that much. The lift or the adjustments Jeep did while installing the lift made day and night difference to the handling on road. I once again love driving the car on road and it behaves much better.
  3. I took the plunge for the Mopar 2” lift kit. My car is a daily driver, and the only car in the family currently. Wife drives it half the time. I needed something that’ll behave close to the stock vehicle which she is used to driving. Well that’s what I tell myself to reason why I spent a fortune on the car. Blame it the wife’s driving habits.
  4. Congratulations @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ, it is a well deserved promotion.
  5. Margham area looks airy due to its low elevation dunes but in fact it is a very difficult terrain to drive on due to its uneven dunes sprinkled with vegetation. Also it has some very soft sand patches that appear unexpectedly. It demands a lot of concentration from the convoy and did we not have it? The long patches of radio silence is testament to fact how engrossed everyone was while driving. Hats off to @Anish S to make the drive seem so easy, and facing all the refusals all by himself. Reminded me of this pic while driving: With @Hisham Masaad at 6th position and @MUHAMMAD Kashif RAZZAQ driving with @Abdul Rafay-S at 7th position, I didn't have anything to do, rather than drive in tranquility, as they managed all the issues - though they were few. @munkybizness - Oh boy you have no idea. The benefit I had today driving as Sweep++(effectively both the cards in front of me were doing the same thing I was.) - I looped twice as i slipped off the ridge and did not have to disturb the momentum of the drive, quickly joining back at the back. The one refusal @S Jacob had - It seemed to me that you were not turning the wheels left/right enough, with a little more wiggle you could have perhaps self recovered. But may be you could not. Otherwise you drove very well through out and the displayed the power of SWB cars. Otherwise everyone drove fantastically well. @Naveen Raj seemed to be observant of what @Anish S was doing. It was great to observe @Aisha S and @Abdul Rafay-S driving their Jeeps like seasoned professionals. @munkybizness looked like you enjoyed the drive as well. This is a map of our drive today recorded on Gaia GPS
  6. I have booked with Rashidiya only. There is a spill over effect due to Shk Zayed running on truncated size.
  7. Due to the demand in Bronco, dealers are adding dealer margins. The prices here are too steep upto AED 30-40k more than the RSP in US. Further - If a winch is installed on Bronco - it blocks the front radar system in the car. This will make the adaptive speed control feature useless.
  8. The Jeep Shk Zyad road service center is undergoing renovation and therefore they are not able to provide any slots for service till Sep 7th latest. They are offering express service a little earlier though, but I had planned a service this Sunday. Want to know your suggestions, as to what I should do.
  9. @Islam Soliman it was a wonderful drive on that Saturday morning. We had to deliberately jinx it to get some refusals otherwise everyone were drive so very well without any refusals. The technical sections at the beginning and at the end were just awesome and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The starting point was new for me and almost missed the exit. I had driven in this area and have enjoyed driving here as well. Was there about 15 min before 5 and @JeromeFJ was already deflated for company. @Zixuan Huang - Charlie as a second lead did quite a good job. @JeromeFJ and @Sunil Mathew had a flawless drive that morning. @Adhir Saxena in his first Fewbei+ drive did very well in the technical sections. Looking forward to next week! The map of our drive and this is the GaiaGPS link to the drive.
  10. Half of the drive was crossing the hill, after that it was just kucha road. Do remember I had to drive for 3 hours to and fro for an hour of drive, as @Chinthaka Ruwan says, overnight trip perhaps is a good idea if one is not fond of just driving. I love driving, even on normal roads, so not a problem for me.
  11. @munkybizness thanks for the info. In fact my plan was to cross on to the other side and do the the Jebel Yibir as well part of the same trip. My trail ends at the beginning of Jable Yibir road. But I could not start early enough, and did not want to go there after sunset.
  12. Disclaimer: My knowledge on the off-roading is quite limited and one must take advice from more experienced members before attempting such activities. Yesterday I drove through the mountain road of Wadi Sena. It is a paved dirt road (kuchha road) through the mountains. I came across just one car during the cross which came from the opposite side, but I presume in winter it would be quite busy. AWD car could cross it, but I think 4x4 would be recommended preferably on a AT tyres since the path is littered with rocks. The temperature hovered around 43 degrees C and I put my car in 4WD Auto and began my drive. I crossed the trail less than hour and easily. When I planned the trip, I was not aware of the altitude gain, but was in for a big surprise at the beginning of the trail itself. This is the Link to my path I took
  13. I had the same question since you can find most drones sold on Amazon and local electronic retailers easily.
  14. this is where you can read the GCAA Law and regulations. Register here for your drone.
  15. Mahindra had/has licence to make up-to CJ5 models.
  16. This is interesting, thank you @Zed for this Shop & Ship idea. It opens up a lot of opportunities to J.E.E.P. (Just Empty Every Pocket) for my Jeep.
  17. Thanks @Gaurav for a wonderful drive. It was quite fun drive. The drive was one of those types that I like most. I never before enjoyed a night drive as much as of last night. It seemed like @M.Seidam @Jeepie and especially @Rizwanm2had few refusals to take care of. I like refusals in night drives, (sorry to say that) for it gives me time to enjoy the tranquility of the desert in the night. Being behind the lead I can only comment on my drive. It was my first drive with my new lift and 2nd one with the new tires and I am still new to the changed driving stance. Crossing dunes seemed a lot more easier yesterday, without the usual scooping of sand. I was however a bit worried if I might have a pop out as it happened a couple of times in my last drive and I was driving in a slightly sedated manner. My first refusal occurred due to the lighter gas than it was required and the recovery issues seemed to be due to 4 wheel drive not engaging properly, since you mentioned that my front wheels were not moving. In my last drive I had a “Service 4WD” message pop up and it came at the fag end while exiting and wasn’t sure what it was doing. Apart from that one time I did not seem to have any issues for rest of the drive. And the second refusals was because I have to live up to my new profile name, and take some loops to come back on track. I just slipped out to the other side of the ridge as I suffered a momentary lack of concentration, since I was looking at my son; who was asleep by then - if he was comfortable or not. PS: It is important to be able to keep adequate distance while observing what the lead/driver in front is doing, one of the skills everyone must practice. This will help to assess how to proceed with tackling the terrain, while giving enough time and space to not getting oneself stuck back to back in a difficult situation.
  18. Thanks @Niki. I’ve pinged them.
  19. I have a 70mai air Compressor along with my onboard ARB one for when I have to top up air because I deflated more or to level the tires after a drive. This one goes into the cigarette lighter and auto inflated to the set pressure. It also shows pressure in .1 increments. I have OCD that all my tires have to have the same pressure on my car center console screen, else I pull my hair out or have sleeplessness. 🤣
  20. Yes ARB have them, but not available here or on Amazon from US. Thanks 🙏
  21. I am trying to jerry rig a air gun for my ARB compressor. I have bought one Asturo Walcom Air Blowing Gun with Long Nozzle from ACE Hardware, and a Gentlin Female Brass Coupling (1/4 in.) to go with it from them, but the adapter does not fit to my ARB hose. The ARB takes 1/4 inch NPT adapter. I had previously bought a Black + Dekker 6 in one as well - that too did not fit. Any suggestions on how to get something to work?
  22. I know - obviously it was a Joke. Jeeps do have their usual share of troubles and it is part of the Jeep experience, however frustrating it is. These days my trouble is that sand comes into the car though the gap between rear glass pan and the door. every time I open it a lot of sand falls back into the car.
  23. That is not an option anymore. FJ, no doubt is a very well made car and has better put together overall, but If I were to go and buy a new vehicle, I'd still not buy a FJ since I don't really like the way it looks like. Irrelevant to the decision but the FJ was designed as a concept in 2003 and Toyota decided to launch it in 2005. It is such an old model and they aren't even trying to refresh it. It is perhaps only available in the Middle East and nowhere else. Toyota just left it to die a slow death.
