Ultimate 4X4 Testing in Sand
Thomas Varghese replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Offroad Drives
After I fixed a new 2nd hand engine I'm awestruck at the power the VQ 4.0L DE engine produces. Even more amazed all this 1 year the old engine could manage most of the climbs with compression leak and water seepage in 3 cylinders. Man Xterra is invincible. Love the machine and its abilities even in stock condition. -

Looks like @Lorenzo Candelpergher is 1 of the victim. 2nd one should be @GauravSoni with a broken steering. If these 2 have been there then the 3rd victim should be @Luca Palanca Falsini. I will come with you @Rizwanm2. Me and my X is not afraid of any terrain. Maybe we should scout the area now before we make a fool of ourselves before everyone. -
@Chinthaka Ruwan my door lock got repaired yesterday itself. This is a 2008 model car, not one which came from showroom in less than 5 years. So things like this are bound to happen. Still I love the Xterra. After I swapped the engine I came to realize its power. Amazing power. I understood my previous engine was leaking combustion inside 3 cylinders and still it could somehow manage the climbs. Now its just WROOM WROOM & ZOOM. No wonder the Nissan VQ 4.0L DE series engines top the charts in the best engines ever made for so many years now. I'm in love with its power. Hopefully it will conquer the Wagan Bowl challege in stock condition put forward by @Gaurav and claim it for Xterra. Love to do a dyno tune prior to that if anyone is doing it for Xterra. If someone could lead me to a good dyno tuner I will be thankful. Not because I'm not happy with the power now but I read in Nissan forums that this engine could be tuned to 400 HP power delivery output which will really make other cars follow the dust trail of Xterra.

Straight pipe exhausts

Somebody please post here when they get fined by Sharjah Police. What I heard is that Sharjah Police is doing the rounds of desert areas and give a fine of 2000 AED plus 6 month vehicle impoundment for any sound more than 95 Db from the silencers. -
Thank you @Lorenzo Candelpergher for your kind words of appreciation and an exciting drive with a campfire yesterday. Looking forward for more drives like this in the future. What I noticed from the drive yesterday was all the fewbies which joined are far better drivers than our fewbie stints in Carnity as demonstrated by very few stucks and refusals in a terrain like this at night. Kudos to all of them. It was my honor to be your 2nd lead and watch how you choose the path for us to tread on following you.

Not very sure if the computer will malfunction. I have seen battery shops doing it for a quick check if the battery or alternator is at fault. I was horrified 1st but nothing happened to my battery.

See you tomorrow morning, ready to go (i.e. already caffeinated, deflated, flagged and briefed) by no later 6:00pm (sharp), so make sure you make it to the meeting point at least by 5:45pm. @Lorenzo Candelpergher You gave the shock of my life when I read it was today morning and had to double check to see the timing which is at evening.

Every off-roader must know: What Went Wrong?
Thomas Varghese replied to Rahimdad's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
@jodha singh shekhawat was lucky that his car didn't roll over but he found himself in this position because he disregarded the most important advice Marshals give before a drive - DON"T FIGHT GRAVITY. It was an intermediate drive and Jodha brought his new car without prior testing in the desert. My fellow off roaders please don't bring your newly acquired cars directly for higher classified drives without participating in Newbie, Fewbie drives with your new car prior to participating in Intermediate drives. -

@Wrangeld you were very courageous to go under the tipped car which was unstable and attach the tow rope to its chassis so that @Alex Raptor could slowly winch him to safety. That was when I learned from you that a slanted car with engine running blows out a lot of smoke. You gave the explanation to that and I experienced the same when my car went into a limp mode recently and in slanted position. @Shaaz Sha was worried my engine was out but I assured him its all right and Richard has explained why this happens. -
