I was late by 4 mins and saw the convoy was already aligned for moving, so I accepted @Looper 's advice of supporting the Newbie drive, which actually worked as one of the cars broke @Batuhan Kulac down in between, and I had to pull it with my beast to the tarmac road back.

The newbie drivers had a good learning that how does it works to pull a car from middle of desert to a tarmac road.

Look forward to drive soon with you guys. Cheers.

  2. Hey all, apologies again about the inconvenience my little jeep caused today. I hope that at least it was a spectacle watching thunderbird 2 tow me all the way to the starting point and assiting me further on the highway. Luckily, with the little throttle response I had left (18%), allowed me to get the car to a proper garage in Dubai. It turns out, just like Ishak's OBD scan had suggested, that it was due to a weak connection at the throttle positioning sensor. Once a new cable was installed within minutes, the warning lights turned off and the car was back to normal.

Thank you to @Gautam Banka in the 392 for pulling out its little JK brother, @Ishak for always being ready to help out with the wrench and the OBD scanner, @Zubail and @JeromeFJ for the towing ropes and the rest of you for being super chill dudes. I hope you enjoyed the second half of the drive as well. I will keep the gear I took from you in the car for when out paths shall cross once more.

See you all under some luckier circumstances on another day on the sand. Have a good weekend. Stay safe. Dig and claw.

That was really good fun - some nice technical practice, a few good ridges, and some (mis)adventures to learn from. Thank you @DP1011 for leading, and @Alexanderrr for giving me some good tracks to follow! Great support from @Luke K P and @Hani crest king too - thank you. I was very impressed with the on-the-drive coaching you all gave.

I think the main takeaways for me were a reminder in the fundamentals of momentum driving on technical dunes (especially given the soft sand), and consistently applying the basics on ridge crossings (particularly being stable on the ridge before manoeuvring onward).

It was also such a good drive that the AD police sent me a nice picture to remember it by… 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Yea gotta be careful mate. Unlike dubai, the street photographers in AD snap ur plates at the speed limit and not one km over.

  4. Add X-terra to your list. Even stock those things are tough yet light making them highly capable in the dunes. Cheap to fix, maintain and to buy. Pajero is everything above just a bit better as Fred mentioned but they are a little bit more expensive :) Avoid Jeeps.
